POSSIBLE SOLUTION
Due to this problem, the health authorities of our city, created the challenge of recovering the Medellín River watershed. This campaign has been a result of organizations working together to achieve the cleanliness of the River and its tributaries, as well as garbage collection and wastewater treatment. This is the case of Public Enterprises, which is responsible for collecting, transporting, treating and disposing of sewage is dumped daily at the Rio, through purification plants; such municipal entity also has installed a network of pipes parallel to river and its creeks, which are responsible for collecting the dirty water that comes from the large number of industries that are from Caldas to Barbosa

. EPM has 10 treatment plants located in the Valle de Aburrá. These are: Caldas, San Antonio de Prado, Aguas Frias, San Cristobal, La Ayurá, Waterfall, Mountain, Villa Hermosa, Springs and Barbosa

WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT SAN FERNANDO
First major plant secondary type in the country, located in the municipality of Itagüí. It began operations in its first phase in May 2000, with installed capacity of 1.8 m3 / s, today discussed the order of 1.3 m3 / s. This plant is designed with its future expansion, stop treat a maximum flow of 4.8 m3 / s. There is about 20% of the wastewater generated in the southern metropolitan area Aburrá Valley, from the towns of Sabaneta, Envigado Itagüí and La Estrella, and Caldas future. This plant had a total value for the construction and operation worth about USD $ 130 million and was financed with a loan from the Inter-American Development Bank.
