Remodel or Relocate?

Home buying and home remodeling TV programs aren’t just a fad; their enduring popularity indicates that they’re here to stay. If you are one of the dedicated viewers, you might perceive short comings in your own home. Inadequate storage, limited cooking space or simply an outdated design tend to conjure thoughts about home improvements. Or instead, thinking of moving into a bigger, smaller or newer home.

Whether you decide to remodel or relocate, the decision will involve a great deal of logistics, emotions and finances. Thoroughly weighing the pros and cons will help you feel prepared when it is time to act. Some things to consider are:

1). What is your budget? You need to determine what is financially feasible. Remodeling can be a good investment and save the hassle of moving. It requires a great deal of patience and willingness to put up with the mess.

2). What is the current value of your home compared to others in your neighborhood? If your home is one of the more expensive in your area, you might not see a significant return if you remodel.

3). How might your needs change in the next 3, 5 or 10 years? A growing family, kids going off to college, aging family members moving in are examples of factors that can impact your housing needs.

4). Is the layout of your current home conducive to a remodel? You might have load-bearing walls that can’t be removed or other constraints.

5). How do you feel about your current neighborhood? Give some thought to the school district, proximity to work, parks, shopping, churches, etc. There are things outside your control that impact how you feel about your neighborhood.

Driftwood by Evan

Evan Reher, my 7-year-old neighbor, has started a business. (I certainly did not have my own business at that age, nor was I even thinking about a business.) Evan has a facebook page you need to check out – Driftwood by Evan.

I have purchased two pieces of driftwood from Evan and they were delivered clean and set where I wanted them. Evan is a hard worker and his business ethics are splendid. Plus, he sells the driftwood at very reasonable prices.

Some of the pieces Evan has collected are huge, some are very unusual and would make a great addition to your landscaping. Way to go, Evan! You are learning great business skills at an early age.
