Dr. Concetta M. Tomaino, the Executive Director and Co-Founder of the Institute for Music and Neurologic Function (IMNF) and Senior Vice President for music therapy at CenterLight Health System, granted MSH this weekly music therapy program for one year. Dr. Tomaino is a pioneer in the field of music therapy for individuals suffering the effects of stroke or other brain trauma or are afflicted with such degenerative neurological diseases as Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s. Dr. Oliver Sacks, a neurologist and author of “Musicophilia:Tales of Music and the Brian” has worked with Dr. Tomaino for more than 30 years and co-founded the IMNF, stated, “ Connie Tomaino has long been dedicated to improving the lives of patients with all sorts of conditions, and bringing to them both the joys and the therapeutic powers of music.” Please join us on Wednesday, October 17th at MSH from 5 to 7pm, to meet Dr. Tomaino and learn how music can aid in memory, improve attention and increase overall quality of life especially in those with impairments due to illness. We need your support to continue this amazing program at MSH. The August 16 Art Show highlighted the summer art work done by the school age children and the older adults this summer. They studied the history of art starting with ancient Greek vases to Cindy Sherman’s contemporary conceptual portraits.

REGULAR EVENTS Breakfast Buddies — Toddlers join us early on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings to share breakfast. Yoga — Every Monday morning Rosemary teaches yoga focusing on bone-building and strength and balance. Singalong — Marilyn plays favorite songs on the piano every other Monday. Literature in Review — Mt. Kisco librarian, Martha, reads essays & short stories every Tuesday. Living Well — Donna Kane, R.N., gives a health lecture every Tuesday morning about living and staying well. Movement to Music — On Wednesday mornings, Gina Miller keeps everyone active with favorites from the ’30s and ‘40s. Music Therapy with the Institute for Music and Neurologic Function — Every Wednesday afternoon, musician Mary Schleissmann brings her enthusiasm and talent from this groundbreaking and internationally recognized program that uses music therapy to assist in the awakening and healing of individuals with a wide range of neurological conditions. Dancing with the Stars — The Simon & Savenko Center for Creative Movement holds a dance class every Thursday afternoon. Caregiver’s Support Group — The meeting will be Monday September 17 at 3:45. My Second Home in collaboration with the Mount Kisco Library received a grant from the Lifetime Arts Council.

The grant program uses several collage techniques to cre-ate expressions of memories while working on fine motor and dexterity skills.
