Not so small that facilities and opportunities are lacking. The Research and Development Division of The Richardson Company offers unique opportunities to scientists of various experience levels. Positions are open for senior chemists, chemical engineers, product development chemists, manufacturing engineers and also for recent graduates. R&D SUPPORTS 15 OPERATING DIVISIONS
The Richardson Research and Development Division operates at the Company's headquarters in Melrose Park, 14 miles west of downtown Chicago. Richardson R & D supports all 15 current operating Divisions (detailed at right) as well as participating in corporate diversification with new products and processes. Five departments form the R & D Division and include Elastomers, Resins, Chemicals, Polymers, and Research Services. The functions of these departments include fundamental and applied research; product and
process development; pilot plant operations; product engineering; and carry-through market development.
TYPICAL RESEARCH ACTIVITIES Polymer and chemical synthesis. Basic research in the area of thermosetting and thermoplastic polymers and the synthesis of organic chemicals. Applications research. Polymer additives, rubber products, coatings, films, surfactants, thermoset and thermoplastic molding compounds, laminates, adhesives. Product and process development of organic chemicals, elastomers, thermoplastic and thermosetting polymers. Development of analytical and testing methods. The R & D Division has available the services of Corporate Market Research and Development and its own Patent Staff. In addition it has liaison with the Central Engineering Division. All the operating divisions are staffed to carry on their own quality control, process engineering, and pilot plant operations, thus relieving R & D scientists of technical services.
