August 2001 – 2006: Supervising Professor, Civil Justice Clinic – Community Development Program

As Supervising Professor of the Community Development Program, I

supervised between 4-6 students per year in a variety of client

representations involving non-litigation legal matters, including, but not

limited to: assisting organizations with incorporation under the Texas Non-

Profit Corporation Act; assisting non-profit corporations obtain Section

501(c)(3) tax-exempt status with the Internal Revenue Service; advising and

consulting non-profit corporations with respect to a variety of organizational

and operational corporate governance matters such as drafting and adopting

by-laws, scheduling and conducting meetings, electing a board of directors,

appointing officers, merger issues, and general decision-making authority. In

addition, the Community Development Program launched a live call-in

monthly television program on Catholic Television of San Antonio aimed at

answering the viewing public’s questions regarding the law and legal system,

Maria Echaveste, Assistant to the President and White House Deputy Chief of

Staff – the highest ranking Latina/o in the Clinton White House.
