Today, in all of your periods, we will be discussing respect issues.

What does it mean to be respectful?

Brainstorm On your own, take one minute to write down your own definition for the word “respect”

Now with a partner, take one minute to share your definitions of “respect”

Listening while the teacher or a classmate is talking.

Throwing trash away in the trash cans and cleaning up.

Sharing ideas during group work and listening to everybody else’s ideas.

Saying “please” and “thank you” to other students and teachers.

Not using your cell phone when you are not supposed to.

Making it to class on time and being prepared.

Taking good care of the materials and property in the classroom.

Being kind to other students. Using the chrome books correctly and following directions.

Let’s play a game! Here are the rules… As we go through the next few slides, you will decide if the scenario shows someone being respectful or not.

If you think the slide does represent respect, you will give a thumbs up.

If you think the slide does NOT represent respect, you will give a thumbs down.

With a partner… Imagine a situation in school where respect is used. It can involve students, teachers, or administration. You and your partner have 5 minutes to write a summary of the example (3-5 sentences).

2) Students working in a group decide to ignore one of the student’s ideas.

Skit Time Students will work in groups of 4.

With your group, you will be given a scenario. You will have 5 minutes to come up with a skit to represent the scenario using respect. Each group will perform the skit to the class.

Reflection

Describe how you will demonstrate respect at Lathrop. Include at least 2 examples of respect within the classroom. Include at least one example of respect in another area of the school. Share final product with teacher via SAUSD Gmail account.
