REPORT ON SAFETY EVENTS MARCH-2017 EVENTS HIGHLIGHTS National Safety Week DP World Nhava Sheva has celebrated “National Safety Week 2017” as per NSC (National Safety Council) guidelines. During the National safety week celebrations a number of initiatives were undertaken involving employees, contractors, stakeholders and students in nearby schools. Events were held between 4 th March and 10 th March 2017. The initiatives included were slogan competition, quiz competition, safety poster drawing competition, and spot quiz competition for employees, elocution competition for contractors, safety campaigns for external truck drivers, lashers, ICD checkers, and contracted supervisors. As part of safety week celebration, safety awareness campaigns for school children and college students have been also been arranged at a nearby school 1. EVENTS HIGHLIGHTS

National Safety Week DP World Nhava Sheva has celebrated “National Safety Week 2017” as per NSC (National Safety

Council) guidelines. During the National safety week celebrations a number of initiatives were undertaken involving employees, contractors, stakeholders and students in nearby schools. Events were held between 4th March and 10th March 2017.

3.SAFETY SPOT QUIZ COMPETITION FOR EMPLOYEES AND CONTRACTORS:

We have conducted an interesting campaign through spot safety quiz and it was conducted on every floor of operation building, rest area, engineering workshop for employees as well as contractors. Questions were based on general safety, port rules & regulations and environmental awareness etc. Winners were gifted with exciting prizes.

4.SAFETY ELOCUTION COMPETITION FOR CONTRACTORS:

Safety elocution competition was conducted for the contracted staff with involvement of contracted supervisors and user department representatives. Topic given to them was “Safety in Daily Life”

5.SAFETY AWARENESS CAMPAIGN WITH STUDENTS AT NEARBY SCHOOL

HSE representatives have visited nearby school, college and had an awareness session with students. A fun filled session has seen active involvement of 150 students and discussed regarding children’s safety, crime related with kids, precautions to be taken while travelling alone.

6.SAFETY GAME: “ FEEL THE PAIN”:

As part of a safety week celebration, we had organized a game called “Feel the Pain”. It involves participants to perform a common task with only using one hand. We gave cold drink tetra pack to participants and told them to open them with using only one hand. During the game no one was able to perform the task given and it made them realize about the seriousness of injuries. The HSE representative gave briefing about importance of being abled and difficulties in life with any kind of

disability. Participants thanked HSE representatives for helping them build awareness regarding safe working.

7.AWARENESS CAMPAIGN WITH CONTRACTORS, EMPLOYEES AND STAKE HOLDERS THROUGH TOOLBOX TALKS:

Awareness campaigns were conducted through number of toolbox talks with employees, contractors and stake holders. Awareness campaigns covered different topics like port safety rules and regulations, general safety, environment, pollution, precautionary measures while working, safe operating procedures, health awareness for drivers, were few among discussed.

World Water Week Celebration

Theme: Why Waste Water DP World Nhava Sheva celebrated “World Water Week” between 20th March to 26th March 2017 and various initiatives were undertaken in terminal and beyond the gate involving employees, contractors, project staff and people at nearby village & students from local school. The below initiatives were undertaken on this occasion –

1. CARRY YOUR WATER GAME:

An exercise to understand the importance of saving water was conducted for these participants. The exercise was to transfer a cup of water to another cup with use of spoon through the chain of participants. The leakages, spill etc and importance of saving water was well understood from the exercise by the participants.

2. Spot Elocution competition for employees:

Spot elocation competition was held on the occation of World water week. Employees gave good response by delivering some excellent ideas to save the water and make people aware about the importance of conservation of water.

3. Visit to nearby local village – Awareness

campaign with Home Makers As a part of World water week celebration, an awareness campaign was arranged at Mulekhand village Uran. More than 40 home makers from village attended the water day celebration that has been arranged. ‘Why waste water’ was the theme for this campaign. Short quiz was conducted and prizes were given to winners. All participants were given complimentary gifts at the end of session as a token of their active participation. Saplings were distributed to all the participants to make them aware about importance of planting trees and How trees can help to conserve water.

4. Visit to nearby School (Bhagubai Thakur Vidhyalaya school, Uran – Involving students)

A program on water saving was arranged at Bhagubai Thakur Vidhyalaya, Uran. The support and involvement was excellent from the Principal, Village president and other Teachers. Campaign was attended by 85 students along with 04 teaching staff. Further Speech Competition on water conservation was conducted with School Students and prizes were given

for the best Speech.

Below points were a part of the awareness campaign - Water & Our population, water consumption- Limited resources, How to prevent wastage of water, Reduce – Reuse & Recycle concept, water saving tips.

5. Safety Elocution competition for Contracted Supervisors –

Safety elocution competition was conducted for the contracted staff with involvement of contracted supervisors and user department representatives.

6. Survey on Water Leakages -

HSE team has conducted a survey on water leakages inside and outside the Terminal. External Inspection was carried out at JNPT area and found one leakage. Leakages were arranged to be rectified on immediate basis.

7. Installed water flow controller to all tabs in NSICT building.

We have installed water flow controller to all the tabs in admin building to save extra wastage during use

8. Awareness campaigns in the terminal

regarding water saving

Various awareness campaigns conducted at the terminal involving employees contractors to highlight the importance of water in life, tips for water saving, problems with shortage of water, ways of recycling, how energy is linked with water, essentiality of water for life etc. Theme for this year’s water day is why waste water. Duties and roles as of a responsible citizen to save the resources were also discussed during this occasion.

OTHER INITIATIVES

First aid training by Paramedic Paramedic conducted a training course about first aid practices to contractor workers. In this session basic first aid practices were demonstrated. Topics covers were Fractures, bleeding, CPR, Dog and snake bites and food poisoning.
