A Profile of UAE Despite global economic downturn, the UAE economy continues to grow and the overall economic outlook is positive. The UAE has diversified its economy. Non-oil sectors now make up approximately 70% of GDP. This will help to make the country’s revenue sources more balanced and create a sustainable economy that can withstand long-term oil price volatility. Dubai is the region’s business, logistics, media and leisure hub. The award of EXPO 2020 to Dubai is forecast to boost the economy by US$23 billion. Other positive factors for growth include:
• UAE’s well-established infrastructure • strong banking system • stable political system • the number of free trade zones that can allow 100% foreign ownership and a nil
taxation regime • ongoing and new developments including Sadiyaat Island in Abu Dhabi,
Mohammed Bin Rashid City in Dubai and the Fujairah Master Plan
The Gulf region has enjoyed continued growth. This has been driven by rising public sector spending, especially on physical and social infrastructure, as well as buoyant private sector activity. The UAE’s proximity to other Gulf markets acts as an entry route to other GCC countries. The GCC currently only has a few free trade agreements in place, including those with the Greater Arab Free Trade Area, the European Free Trade Area (Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein) and Singapore. Discussions are continuing with several other countries such as India and the EU. India’s export of Spices to UAE is attached as Annexure 1. Gulf Food and Gulf Food Manufacturing Exhibition Till 2014 February Gulf Food was arranged as a single show. But due to exceptional visitor growth and exhibitor demand, the show has been announced in a two show format with each event focused on quite different and distinct buyer groups. Show 1. Gulf Food Manufacturing- for the industrial producer and food processing industry. This event is the new home for ingredient, processing and packaging equipments. Logistics is also included in the warehousing, refrigeration, materials handling and supply chain management. Show 2. Gulf Food.-will in future focus on the retail, hospitality,, trade and food service industries. Buying motivators here are focused on price quality availability, service delivery and continuity. The Gulf Food is therefore amended to focus on finished and packaged food catering and hospitality equipment. Key facts about Gulf Food manufacturing

The total area has been separated into 13 individual stands. Out of this, one stand was exclusively for Spices Board and the other 12 stands were given to the following spice exporters for their participation.
1) Dharthi Industries, Rajkot, Gujarat 2) Jabs Internatinal Pvt.Ltd, Mumbai 3) Kanu Krishna Corporation, Mumbai 4) La Shive Exim Pvt.Ltd, Mumbai 5) Maharaja Dehydration Pvt.Ltd, Mumbai 6) Murtuza Foods Pvt.Ltd, Gujarat 7) R K Industries, Rajasthan 8) Sark Spice Products Pvt.Ltd, Kerla 9) Sterling Exports Inc., Mumbai 10) Vacco Exports, Mumbai 11) Venkatesh Naturals Pvt.Ltd, M.P 12) V P & Sons, Mumbai
In addition to the above, M/s. Synthite Industries, A K Flavours, Kancore, VKL, Plant Lipids, Paras Dehydrates, Merchant Exports, Cemex etc .were also participated in in India Pavillion on their own. Spices Board's stall has been visited by nearly 200 visitors. There are 52 specific enquiries on Indian spices and Indian Spice Industry (Details given in Annexure 2). Majority of the enquiries were on availability of major spices like cardamom, pepper, chilli and seed spices. There was an interesting enquiry on possibility of fair trade and contract farming on spices. Questions on availability of organic spices and large cardamom were received and answered. Since exporters on different spices/product were having their own independent stalls, specific queries were directed to such exporters for their individual attention.
Feed back of visitors All the visitors appreciated the way in which participation of Board has been arranged during the show. They were given answers specific to their enquiries. Our exporters individually attended to the requirement of buyers when they visited their stalls. Feed back of Exporters participated under Board's co-ordination There were 12 exporters participated under Board's co-ordination and all the exporters were of the opinion that individual participation in separate stalls is really beneficial to them for catering to the needs of existing and new buyers. This has also helped our exporters to create new leads for further follow ups for materializing the demand. They expressed their interest to attend the show on Gulf Food Manufacturing with the Spices Board in the coming years. Suggestions
• Fascia for the stalls may be made more visible to the visitors • A panel showing Board’s website address and ‘contact us’ may be displayed • Since exporters are allotted separate stalls, area of Board's stall can be reduced • Some of the exporters suggested that the Board may request the organizers to allow
participation of Spices Board and its registered exporters in Gulf Food 2015..
