Introduction of the DEEPSOUND M3
Seongsan Lab’s DEEPSOUND M3 device is a pioneer in its class for South Korean domestic
market that targeted for providing a high quality, portable and highly efficient, user friendly
ultrasonic inspection using PA-UT (phased array UT technology).
Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PA-UT) is used for a flaw detection, sizing, and imaging.
PA-UT technology has the ability to modify electronically the acoustic probe characteristics.
The device offers following features & dimension of spacing with high-performance and
efficiency with portability.
DEEPSOUND M3 with PC – The device is developed to enable control and data collection
and analysis by using built-in PC, unlike regular PAUT devices does not include. Since it can
store and manage equipment. It has various advantages such as reducing the risk of losing
data and uniformity of management.
32 channel /256 element system PR – Innovative phased array system, up to 32 simultaneous
active channels and 256 in total. 32 indicates the maximum number of simultaneously active
beam-forming channels, whereas 256 indicates the total number of available probe elements.
With the same processing power, the system can adapt focal laws to conduct inspection on
complex surfaces. In addition, you can connect two Phased array probe at the same time
through two Mini DLP connector without extension connector.
Bipolar Pulse wave type – While other PAUT device uses Unipolar Pulse wave method, but
DEPPSOUND M3 adopts Bipolar Pulse wave method which is recognized in medical
ultrasonic technology, therefore device will generate clear signal with less noise.
Dynamic Sample Focusing – In the receiving phase of ultrasonic signal, the signal
components collected from several oscillators are separated into the noise component and
signal component by the calculated Focus value at the specific position. Conventional PAUT
device uses Dynamic Depth Focusing method to acquire signals with different focus values
with every 10mm, but DEEPSOUND M3 uses Dynamic Sample Focusing to calculate focus
every 0.06mm by varying the value to obtain a better signals.
DEEPSOUND M3 with software - The M3 device properly works with remote PC running
Windows Xp, Windows 7 or Windows 10 and Seongsan Lab’s DSVision software. However
M3 includes computer inside, PC is remotely used for send/receive data, as PC will be
referred as “Host” in this document. Since DEEPSOUND M3 is driven by Seongsan Lab’s
powerful DSVision software platform, M3 offers advanced data acquisition and analysis.
Additionally, it can dynamically adapt focal laws to conduct inspections on complex surfaces.
In terms of performance point, M3 device is capable of handling data files in high speed, which
gives extra feature to users to increase scanning speed without losing its quality
For more information about DSVision software, please see the software user manual,

3. Preparing the DEEPSOUND M3 for in-use
This section will explain following steps required to setting up before in-use:
Proper standing spot for the M3
Connecting M3 to the host computer
Probe connections
Encoder connections
Turning ON/OFF the M3
Furthermore, appendix section will provide more information about probes, which will lead
you to obtaining even better acquisition scanning result.
We strongly recommend user to read all this manual thoroughly before real time
application or unintended hazardous action, since this document provide all
information you may need.
3.1 Proper standing spot for DEEPSOUND M3
M3 device is relatively lighter (appx. 12.5 kg) than other market products, therefore device
can be used on the desk, floor or other flat spaces.
Since M3 met the safe and light performance in hardware matter, but safety is still essential.
Therefore we recommend users to use M3 device always makes sure positioned away from
heat sources, and leave a distance of at least 5-10 cm in front of the fan outlets, unless Air
Intake feature not in access.
Important: It is recommended to that device should positioned close to a power outlet that
could avoid disconnect unexpectedly in some manner.
Also, we encourage you to not block cooling fan for while intentionally or not.
3.2 Connecting DEEPSOUND M3 to the Host
Inspection with the M3 are remotely controlled via Ethernet connection to Host PC. Following
steps will guide you to connect M3 to the Host PC and configure setting with Seongsan Lab’s
DSVision software.
Important: It is recommended to plug off device from wall before accessing side panel
connectors.

The M3 is designed for phased array inspections, and Seongsan Lab provides connector that
allows you work with conventional UT probes or with a combination of conventional and
phased array UT probes.
Important thing that working with probe is make sure that the connector pins are
properly aligned and that the adapter is not positioned in wrong side. Also when
manipulating the adapter, never use excessive force, that may bend the pins and
render the adapter unusable.
Installing the encoder connector
To install the encoder connector:
1. Remove the adapter from the storage.
2. Align the adapter on encoder, and gently push it in. The adapter should slide easily.
Removing the connector
To remove connector:
5. Turn tightening screws counterclockwise until they are completely out of the
sockets.
6. Gently pull out to remove it from the connector.
We strongly recommend users to pull out the adapter in straight direction.
Otherwise connector pins could bend and render the adapter unusable.
