INVITATION TO ACCOUNTING STUDENTS CONFERENCE (ASC) 2012
“ACCOUNTANTS: NOT JUST NUMBER CRUNCHERS”
We are pleased to announce that Accounting Club of Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) and
Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) in collaboration with Malaysian Institute of Accountants
(MIA) will be organizing the ASC 2012. The following are the details of the conference:
Date : 10th November 2012 and 11
th November 2012
Venue : Bukit Keluang Beach Resort, Kuala Besut
Fees : RM150 per person
The main aim of ASC 2012 is promoting the accountancy profession to the participating students. The
ASC 2012 provides various informative slots that allow students to enhance their knowledge and skills
and exchange their ideas during the conference. This conference is also intended to equip students
with knowledge as to what is required in every professional accountant and to instil the important of
lifelong learning spirit in students which is crucial in the demanding market. There will also be
networking opportunities with industry players who are recruiting interns.
We hope that your university will send at least 20 accounting students to this conference. The RM150
fees will cover accommodation, food and event materials. Any accompanying faculty member will be
charge at a normal room rate (subject to the availability of the room by Bukit Keluang Beach Resort).
We will provide one complimentary pass to attend the two-day conference.
Conference programme and confirmation of attendance are attached for your further action. For
students who wish to register on individual basis, they can fill up the attached individual registration
form or register via online at http://www.asc-2012.com. The fee can be paid by cash, cheque or online
transaction payable. Payments should be received by 7th October 2012. Please fax the completed forms

ABOUT ACCOUNTING STUDENTS CONFERENCE (ASC)
ASC is an inaugural event that brings together accounting students from various universities in
Malaysia. The conference is initiated by the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) in line with its
commitment to the development and advancement of the accountancy profession in Malaysia.
Since its inception in 2006, the conference has been carried out through the collaboration between
MIA and Universities under Part 1 of the First Schedule of the Accountants Act, 1967. The first three
ASCs which were organized biannually had been successfully hosted by the Universiti Sains Malaysia
(USM) in 2006, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in 2008, and Universiti Teknologi
MARA (UiTM) in 2010.
With effect of 2011, ASC has been organized annually on a rotation basis for which Multimedia
University (MMU) had the opportunity to host this prestigious event in December 2011. The significant
element of ASC is to develop students’ professional skills in organizing a conference such as
teamwork, leadership, communication, negotiation, managerial, and entrepreneurship skills.
ABOUT ASC 2012
This year, for the very first time, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) and Universiti Sultan Zainal
Abidin (UniSZa) are proudly hosting the ASC. UMT and UniSZA, which are located on the shore of
Terengganu, will jointly organize the conference with the full support from MIA.
The conference theme “Accountants: Not Just Number Crunchers” focuses on programmes where
participants will be exposed to gain more information and knowledge about the profession. The
conference also emphasizes on the development of networking and soft skills that are essentials for
the profession.
OBJECTIVES
To equip students with knowledge as to what is required in every professional
accountant, and
To instill the importance of lifelong learning spirit in students, which is crucial in the
demanding market, and
To give out the exposure and self realization in what is needed to be able to be
successful in the industry.
