    RanthamboreA tiny village that derives its name from two hills - Ran and Thambor, Ranthambhore in the

    state of Rajasthan is endowed with a magnificient environment. Its deciduous forests are

    rich in flora and fauna that inhabits a wide span of all species. A land, which boasts of a

    legendary history, was the stronghold of the Yadavas in the 8th century. Later in the 10th

    century, it came under rule of the mighty Chauhans, which continued as such till the

    When To Go

    Ranthambhore has a moderate climate all through the year. But the best time to visit is from October to April, during

    which you can spot tigers and weather is pleasant.

    Winters (November to February) are cool and have a maximum temperature of 32C and a minimum of 4C. It offerspleasant weather during daytime making it suitable for sightseeing and sighting wildlife in the National Park.

    Summers (March to June) offers warm climate and the maximum temperature ranges up to 46C and a minimum of

    23C. This season is ideal for spotting tigers in the Ranthambhore National Park.

    Monsoons (July to September) offer average rainfalls. During this period the park remains closed.

    The National Park is open from October to June. Winter months are favorable for sightseeing and enjoying wildlife

    activities. During summer, the park is open to public making it possible for wildlife enthusiast to enjoy sighting animals,

    while rainy months are not ideal for wildlife visits as the park remains closed.

    Travel within city

    Travelling around Ranthambore can be quite exciting, as there are a million things to see and hardly enough time.

    Bus

    Sawai Madhopur is the nearest town to Ranthambore, and buses are available regularly from Sawai Madhopur to

    Ranthambore. You can opt for one of these deluxe or semi deluxe buses in order to travel to Ranthambore, for fares

    ranging around Rs 100 to 125.

    Taxi

    You can also opt for cabs to travel from Sawai Madhopur to Ranthambore, and this may cost you anywhere around Rs 200

    to 500, depending on the type of car involved. This is an alternative mode of travel that you can opt for in case you are

    traveling in a group.

    Jeep Safari

    The safaris provided in Ranthambore National Park are very famous, and you can opt for these in order to explore around

    the park and catch a glimpse of all the species present there. The safari rides in Ranthambore National Park have duration

    of about three hours and the ride will cost around Rs 400 to 500 per head. The safari rides are provided in two batches

    during 6:30 in the morning and during 2:30 in the afternoon.

    Ranthambhore Fort popular

    Located atop of a hill, the Rathambhore fort holds a bloody but brave history of the legendary Rajputs. Constructed in 994

    AD, this fort encompasses massive gate, lofty walls, tanks and temples. Its strategic location and finest structural designs

    with safety measures makes it an impregnable one. This mighty fortress of the Rajputs holds an amazing legend that says

    that the fort was constructed as a token of gratitude to Lord Shiva. However, Rathambore fort is famed as the first ever

    place where the women practiced Juhar in order to protect themselves from the intruding army of the Persians.

    The fort is constructed in such a way that even though the enemies besieged the fort, they could not make an easy access.

    Its four colossal gateways are so strong that it could not be rammed with herds of elephants. The only entry to the fort is

    through this lofty gateway that encompass so many defense mechanisms. Now the interior of the fort is almost empty

    except that of the two temples in the name of Lord Shiva and Ganesh.

    Though only a remnant of the bastion is left, its historical significance makes it one among the popular destination where

    scores of tourists frequents.

    Ranthambhore National Park popular

    Standing out remarkably in an extensive denuded tract, the Ranthambhore National Park reflects a unique juxtaposition of

    historical and natural richness. It proffers a winding terrain with slopes, hills, steep ridges, hillocks, pebbly ravines and flat

    valleys. The park spreads over a vast expansion of 392 sq km and it happens to be the finest example for conservation of

    Tigers.

    In 1955 this park was declared as a wildlife sanctuary and later in the year 1980 it got the status of a National Park. During

    1984, the northeast and southern forests were declared as Keladevi and Sawai Man Singh sanctuaries.

    Ranthambhore National Park is renowned as the perfect asylum for the tigers. The sheer joy of spotting the tigers in the

    daylight could not be sketched through words. One can even see the tigers hunt in front of the visitors. Apart from the royal

    Jungle Safari

    Surwal Lake

    A shallow seasonal lake that situates nearly 25 Kilometers away from Rathanbhore, Surwal Lake is a pictorial destination,

    which captivates the on looker with its alluring beauty. A haven of the avian fauna, the mesmerising charm of the lake

    attracts scores of visitors during November-March.

    During winters, this lovely water body would serve as a home to birds like Pelicans, Demoiselle Cranes, Bar Headed

    Flamingoes and Graylag geese. Mornings in winter are simply marvelous with the sweet chirping and melodious singing of

    the colourful inhabitants of the lake. To witness this stunning vista one should reach the banks before the sun rises. Since

    the lake dries up during April to May, one should avoid visiting this place during that time.
