Hi, Rahula!

Hello, Leo.

Where are you going? Can I come too? Please let me come…

Of course you can.I’m goingsomewhere special. You’ll see when we get there.

Page 9: Rahula Leads the Way

4 5

Now that‛s what I call an egg!

Page 10: Rahula Leads the Way

6 7

Watch out!

Page 11: Rahula Leads the Way

6 7

Get off me, idiot! Why don’t you look where you’re going?Of all the clumsy, stupid, brainless…

Page 12: Rahula Leads the Way

8 9

Calm down, Leo. Your anger will hurt him but it’ll hurt you even more. You’d like him to forgive you if you made a mistake, so why not forgive him?

Page 13: Rahula Leads the Way

8 9

Now you’re both friends, can you please get off me so we can get on with our walk?

I’m sorry I got angry.

I‛m sorry I bumpedinto you.

Page 14: Rahula Leads the Way

10 11

Oh look, Rahula! What’s that lying on the ground?

Let’s go and see what it is.

Page 15: Rahula Leads the Way

10 11

It’s a baby bird. Don’t worry, little bird,I won’t hurt you.

Did you fall out of your nest? We’ ll soon have you back home.

Page 16: Rahula Leads the Way

12 13

You’re safe now.

Thank you!

Page 17: Rahula Leads the Way

12 13

at was a kind thing to do. Well done, Leo.

Come – let’s be on our way.

Page 18: Rahula Leads the Way

14 15

Hello, Squirrel. How are you today? Are you hungry? Have some peanuts. You look so cute with your fluffy tail.

I’m going to take you home. You can be my pet andlive with me forever!

Page 19: Rahula Leads the Way

14 15

And just what would you do with him?Keep him locked up in a cage?Keep him away from his family and friends?Make him a prisoner? Why not let him go?

Page 20: Rahula Leads the Way

16 17

We can enjoy things without having to own them. If you let him go, he can still be your friend.

Page 21: Rahula Leads the Way

16 17

Oh, I give up. I didn’t mean to be such a horrible person. I’ ll never learn to be good.

Page 22: Rahula Leads the Way

18 19

Whenver you feel like giving up, remember what the Buddha said,

“Drop by drop is the water pot filled. A little at a time, wise people make themselves good.”

Come on – we’ve still got some way to go.

Page 23: Rahula Leads the Way

18 19

This is my cake and I‛m not sharing it with anyone!

Page 24: Rahula Leads the Way

20 21

Go away!You can‛t have any!

This cake is mine.Go find your own!

Page 25: Rahula Leads the Way

20 21

Would you like

something to eat?

Look at him over there. He’s so busy makingsure no one gets eventhe tiniest piece thathe can’t enjoy the cake himself.

Page 26: Rahula Leads the Way

22 23

We’ve had a wonderful time.ank you for letting us share your picnic. Goodbye!

Page 27: Rahula Leads the Way

22 23

I feel sick!

Page 28: Rahula Leads the Way

24 25

Is this the right path?Everyone’s going that way.

Page 29: Rahula Leads the Way

24 25

Just because everyone else is taking that path, it doesn’t mean that it’s the right way. Don’t follow the crowd. Find out for yourself. at road leads back to where we started. is, here, is the right path.

Page 30: Rahula Leads the Way

26 27

Look at this waterfall.See how the water tumblesinto the river below.

Page 31: Rahula Leads the Way

26 27

We are like this river. Here in the beginning, the water rushes along and makes a lot of noise. Gradually, it begins to slow down taking its time flowing through the fields. en, much further down, the river is wide and the water moves gently along until, finally, it flows into the sea. Our lives are like that – always moving on, always changing.

Page 33: Rahula Leads the Way

28 29

Oops! You see what happens when you let your mind wander? You know, it helps if we concentrate not just when we are walking but when we do anything.

Page 34: Rahula Leads the Way

30 31

I’m not crossing that bridge.e water’s such a long way down.

Page 35: Rahula Leads the Way

30 31

Don’t be afraid. It’s quite safe.Give me your hand. I’ll help you across. at’s what friends are for.

Page 36: Rahula Leads the Way

32 33

Look! is signpost has fallen over. Help me put it back.

Oh, must I? I’m tired and besides, that’s not my business.

Not mine either!

Page 37: Rahula Leads the Way

32 33

Faster, faster!

It won’t take long but I can’t do it on my own – it’s too heavy!

Page 38: Rahula Leads the Way

34 35

We may know which way to go, but other people might not. Putting the signpost back was a small thing for us to do but it will help those who don’t know the way.

Page 39: Rahula Leads the Way

34 35

Rahula! Isn’t that the King? He looks so grand and important. Next to him I am nobody.

Page 40: Rahula Leads the Way

36 37

This must be the way!

I hope he knowswhere he‛s going.

Page 41: Rahula Leads the Way

36 37

He may be a King but if we hadn’t fixed the signpost, he might have lost his way. So aren’t we just as important as he? We all depend upon each other so that makes each of us important.Come – we still have far to go…

Page 42: Rahula Leads the Way

38

We haven’t finished ourjourney yet. e path is longand in some places difficult. But we’ll make many newfriends along the way who willhelp us and keep us company.
