Using QuizMaker For Teachers

Getting Started Open the Internet Browser and type the following web address (URL) into the Address Bar:

www.sctboces.org/quizmaker

Click each of the 4 buttons above the Login / Password fields to install the programs needed to run QuizMaker. Then log into your account with your user name and password. Your user name (LOGIN) is your email address. Your initial password is changeme.

Once you are logged in, you will see this screen:

1. Change your password when you log in for the first time.

2. Click CREATE A CLASS to create a list of your students. • TEST ADMINISTRATION

is where you can create tests

• Click LOG OUT when you want to end your QuizMaker session

Create a Class

1. On the Teacher Home page, click the CREATE A CLASS button

2. Type in a name for your class and click ADD CLASS:

Example: elementary teachers may choose to have each subject represent a different class (science, math, social studies, etc.). Secondary teachers may choose to name classes after class periods (i.e. – Tice-period1) or subject taught (i.e. – Tice-Chemistry)

3. There are several different things you can do with the Class List on the Teacher Home page:

a. Click the Envelope button to edit a message for your class

b. Click this button to edit

(change) your class’ name.

c. Click the Recycle Bin button to delete the class and all grades associated with it.

d. Click the Class Name to add students to your class

Adding Students to a Class 1. On the Teacher Home page,

click the name of a class in your Class List.

2. Click the ADD A STUDENT button

3. Type the student’s first and

last name and give the student a login (user name). ***Each student login must be unique. Tip – add an extension to the user name that will make it specific to your class (i.e., Mrs. Tice teaches 6th grade. She sets up John Smith’s login as jsmith-6t)

4. The student password is changeme until the first time s/he logs in.

5. Click the ADD STUDENT button when finished.

6. Follow steps 3-5 until you have entered all of your students. Then click the CLASSROOM HOME button. • If you want your

class to have the same password, click the orange HERE link in the directions

• Click the red buttons to change individual student passwords.

• Click the Recycle Bin to delete a student.

Test Administration Now that you’ve added students to your class, click the TEST ADMINISTRATION button to create, view and edit tests for your class.

Creating Tests Click the CREATE A TEST button at the bottom of the Test Administration Screen.

Give the test a name and click ADD TEST

Choose which type of test you plan to make – SIMPLE TEST (questions only) or MODULE WIZARD (includes all the “bells and whistles”). Tip: If you create a “simple test”, you can go back later and add images, sound, etc. when you edit each question.

Question Types

Adding the other question types is similar to True/False questions.

For MULTIPLE CHOICE questions, you must provide the correct answer and 3 distracters.

For FILL-IN-THE-BLANK questions, you can list up to 4 acceptable answers.

MODULE WIZARD • From TEST ADMINISTRATION, click CREATE A TEST , give your test a name,

click ADD TEST • Click MODULE WIZARD • Select a background • You can then choose whether you want to add a SHOW ME or a QUESTION.

o Use SHOW ME’s to teach new concepts o You can add movie clips, sound, images and other types of files to help students learn

ADD ONLY AUDIO – record sounds related to your topic or record yourself reading information about your topic. There is no digital character associated with this feature. ADD 3D DIGITAL CHARACTER – you can choose a 3-dimensional character to “speak” to the recorded information. ADD 2D FLASH CHARACTER – you can choose a 2-dimensional character to “speak” to the recorded information (you can record your own, or use the TEXT TO SPEECH engine). NO AUDIO OR CHARACTER – you can opt not to record any sound. Once you choose whether or not to use audio, then you will be prompted to choose to include media.

If you choose UPLOAD IMAGE/PICTURE, you will see this screen. • To add a new image, click

the BROWSE… button. • Find your file and double

click to select it. • Click ADD IMAGE Once you’ve added pictures to some of your tests, you will see them listed in the GALLERY so you can easily use them in other quizzes.

The above image shows several classes and a number of tests this teacher has created and could assign to the different classes. TEST ADMINISTRATION OPTIONS

• Tests can be shared or kept private. The orange Private link means your test is not being shared. Click the Private link to make it Public if you want to share it.

• Once you’ve added several classes they might not all show up on one screen. Use the

MORE CLASSES button and the PREVIOUS CLASSES button to toggle back and forth through your classes.

• Click the orange ADD link to add your test to a class so they can take the test.

• Once you’ve added a test, you have the following options: o You can click the orange REMOVE link to remove the test from the class test list

o REVIEW button - allows students to review the test before submitting it (enabled automatically once test is added – click button to disable)

o SPELL CHECK button – allows students to spell check answers and essays (enabled automatically once test is added – click button to disable)

o RANDOM button – questions will be asked in random order with this tool enabled (NOT enabled automatically once test is added – click button to enable)

o RESULTS button – allows students can view their test results (NOT enabled automatically once test is added – click button to enable)

• Click the title of the test (i.e. – Plant and

Animal Cells) to: o Edit test questions o Change test name o View the test o Delete the test

• Click class name (i.e. – 6T Science) to: o View test RESULTS (click the orange RESULTS link) o Change the number of times students can take the test (ONCE / MULTIPLE) o Edit or delete student information o Click the ENVELOPE button next to each test to leave individualized messages for

students.

Viewing Test Results From the TEST ADMINISTRATION screen, click the name of the class to view their test results. You will see a screen similar to this one: In the picture, there is only one student listed in this class. This student has taken 3 different tests. In order to view how the entire class did on each question of a particular test, click the RESULTS link for that test to see this screen

Move the mouse over each number to reveal the question.

Move the mouse over the checkmarks and X’s to see how the students responded. [CHECKMARK = CORRECT; X = INCORRECT]

Click the NOTEPAD buttons to manually grade essays and audio responses.

Public Tests Teachers can opt to share tests with others:

On the TEST ADMINISTRATION page, click the PRIVATE link next to the test that you want to share.

Browsing Public Tests

On the TEST ADMINISTRATION page, click the BROWSE PUBLIC

TESTS button to view tests by grade level and curriculum area.

***You are not able to edit the tests you borrow.

Then fill in the information about the test you plan to share – grade level, curriculum area, description…

When done, click ADD TEST

Using QuizTaker For Students

Getting Started Open Internet Explorer and log in to www.sctboces.org/quiztaker

Install the programs needed to run the application by clicking the 5 buttons under step 2. Click the “CLICK HERE TO LAUNCH THE PROGRAM” button to begin the session…

Type in the student’s username and press ENTER on the keyboard. Type in the student’s password and press ENTER on the keyboard.

You can either choose to LOAD TEST LIST or VIEW GRADES/REVIEW TESTS.

Choose a test from the list and click CONTINUE: Take the test:

**Keep In Mind: 1. Click TRUE or FALSE to answer True/False Questions 2. Click the circle next to the correct answer when completing MULTIPLE CHOICE questions. 3. Your teacher can enable and disable the Spell Checker for FILL-IN-THE-BLANK questions and ESSAYS.

So please use Spell Check to check your answers before submitting your answer if it is enabled. Menus: Click MODULE in the top left corner of the screen if you want to SAVE your work. Click YES in the CONFIRMATION box. The test you saved will be in the “TESTS TO FINISH” list the next time you log in. It will begin the test where you left off. Click MODULE QUIT if you want to end your session and not save your work.

Text to Speech is a feature that reads tests questions for those with difficulty reading. Click the TEXT TO SPEECH menu, and select TTS ON if you want to enable Text to Speech. The SPELLING menu – click CHECK SPELLING (if it is enabled) for fill in the blank and essays.
