The Girl Scouts of Americafloat, with the theme of 53 yearsof fun and service, won the jun -ior division of Most BeautifulFloat. Scouts on the float wereElaine Dew, Delia Shields. Su-san Gorman and Jacqueline Mc-Mullen. Edward Shields madethe float with the assistance ofvolunteer girl scouts.
" Mary Pcppins" was the themeof the River Avenue School float ,which took second place. It waadesigned by Larry Vllardo. artteacher at the school. Mary LouPausewang played Miss Popplns.Theresa Micucci and Derails Cookwere the children, and GeorgeSchordine and Richard Bergerdepicted the chimney sweeps.There »was a third-place tiebetween the Christian ServiceBrigade float cf the EvangelicalFree Church, depicting theworld-wide appeal of the Chris-tian gospel, and the Cub ScoutPack ll float with the theme ofsaving American forests fromfires.
Judges of the floats wereGeorge Lechtrecker, formerPatchogue mayor; Henry Sch-midt, superintendent of the FireIsland National Seashore,Thomas Looby, superintendentof Patchogue-Medford schools,and Lieut. Col. Al Kalian of theU. S. Army Reserve.
Bond CompetitionFirst three winners in the band
competition were the NorthPatchogue Fire DepartmentBand, the Patchogue Village Bandand the Patchogue Junior HighSchool Band, including studentsfrom South Ocean Avenue andOregon Avenue Schools. TheGolden Grenadiers of Medfordwon tlie Senior Drum and BugleCorps division. The Bayport FireDepartment Red Devils took firstin the Junior Drum and BugleCorps division. There waa a tiefor the second place between theBlue Point and West Sayvillecorps.

With the theme, "Answeungthe Alarm," the Blue Point F ireDepartment float showed smokfcoming from a house. Bible Is Theme
The First Baptist Church ofPatchogue took the theme "OurHeritage, The Bible." Riding ona covered wagon were LynetteMcCormick, Mrs. Peggy Wat-kins (in front) and Marjorie andLinda Calkins (In back). Aborepresenting the Pioneer Girlsof the church were Mrs, Mar-garet Meiner, Claudia Reeve ,Marjorie Pierce , Mary Jo Zolloand Ethel Gerard.
The Emanuel Lutheran Churchfloat had a replica of a churchand the theme, "CitizenshipUnder God."
The float of the Knights ofColumbus Council 725, Patch-ogue, depicted the theme of "KeepPrayer in SchooL." Nicolette andDeborah Salvatto were seated atdesks.
"Serves the Youth of the Area"was the theme of the Bee HiveDepartment Store float. Parti-cipating in the entry were SusanAvlno, Christine Dougherty, Ma-rilyn An'.risani, Viekl Katushaand Kathy Sylvester.
Riding on the Lions Club floatwere Barbara Robertaccio andMarie Pontleri. The float wasdriven by C. J. Wolfarth. Thefloat committee was headed byAngelo Juliano and Robert Han-son.
Dancing on the float of theFrank E. Ransome, Jr., Repub-lican Club were Marie Gam-bino, Marie Cutillo. and LyndaCarlson. Music was providedby Vincent Ferreri, Andrew Rod-dlnl, Paul Gagnon and VincentFerreri, Jr.
Modern dances were done onthe Patchogue Kiwanis Club floatby Christine Engelschjon, NancyFiehler, Pamela Silhan, AuroraHunter, Carol Nolan, Linda Stilland Robin Kern. Riding in the carwere Charles Faulkner, MurrayRose, Kathleen Goetz, Susan Cas-sel, Karleen Erhardt and JeanneLogan. The Kiwanis banner wasearried by Catherine Delaneyand Theresa, Paul and AndrewGoetz. Kiwanis was marking its50th anniversary.
Introduce Schools
Carrying the banner introduc-ing the Patchogue-MedfordSchools were Theresa LaBatto,Diane Kaminski , Christine Purdyand Jackie Hunter. Depicting aclassroom from 1900 was thefloat of the Tremont AvenueSchool. On the float were DianeJones, "teacher ," and the stu-dents , Ronald Watkins , Jean-nette Martinez, Joseph Marano,John Goepferich, Barbara Logueand Gloria Farrell.
Assistant Director JosephSchauer, Sr., led the GoldenGrenadiers. John Walsh wasdrum major.
Mastic Cub Pack 262 , spon-sored by Uie Moriches AmericanLegion Post 929, entered a floatwith the theme, "Remember1776." It was driven by PostCommander Joseph Provost.
Charles Mischo, president, andJohn Shaughnessy, vice-pres-ident, of the North PatchogueYouth. Athletic Club, and JackHartman, John Shaughnessy andScott Bowie carried the bannerto lead members of the club'sextensive athletic program.
Fireman James Armsteadhad the pleasant task of driv inga vehicle carrying three beautieswho will compete in the July 23Beauty Contest to be held bjEuclid Hose Company 2 at theLake Street Fire House. Theywere Susan Engelschjon, KathyLinehan and Ellen Engelschjon.
