Pythagoras and the Pythagorean Theorem

Pythagoras was born in Samos, in 570 B.C.

He fled to Croton, Southern Italy to escape the tyranny of Polycrates

In Croton, he founded the Brotherhood of Pythagoreans, a secret society which studied mathematics.

The Pythagoreans had a motto:ALL IS NUMBER

The Pythagoreans believed in immortality of soul and in re-incarnation

The Pythagoreans were the first vegetarians.They did not eat meat.

Pythagoras died in Megapontium, Italy in exile. He died in 500 B.C.

He is known for the Pythagorean Theorem: “The sum of the squares of the two legs of a right triangle is equal to the square of the hypotenuse”.
