    Introduction

    The Pulse Mobile (Android edition) User Guide provides you with the informationrequired to understand and use the new Pulse Mobile (for Android) application. Thisproduct is for smart phones and Tablet installation in the Pulse product family. This

    product gives you Alarm and Data (Items) visibility and control. The Pulse Mobileapplication key features are:

    Immediate and effective Emergency Management

    Standard Android application

    Seamless integration with Pulse Server projects

    Secured authorization managed by the Pulse Project Policy

    Real-Time alarm & data notification and control

    Alarm history & real-time graphical trend displays

    Alarm notification and real-time data sharing with colleagues via SMS andemail

    Remote site control, multi-site support

     About Pulse Mobile

    Pulse Mobile (Android) is an application designed to extend the monitoring andcontrol of a Pulse project over the mobile network to your standard smart phoneor Tablet. The application gives operators monitoring and control of Alarms and

    Data.

    The interface and functionality make it easy to operate, define and configure theserver for connectivity (for standard Pulse Server parameters).

    These benefits give every Pulse operator and manager the ability to continuouslymonitor and control a project from any location, at any time.

    System Connection Diagrams

    Connections from the Pulse Server to the mobile network can be with a dedicatedPulse Mobile Web Service server or by running the Web Service directly on thePulse Server. The two diagrams shown below illustrate these connection methods.

    Downloading the Pulse Mobile Application

    Go to the Google Applications Icon and downlaod the Pulse Mobile Ver. 1.1 or plugin from the Internet and download the application from your System Administrator.

    Opening the Application

    Double click on the Afcon Pulse icon.

    The initial Start up screen opens the application; the main Pulse Server’s Listscreen opens showing a single “Demo Server” available.

    Connecting to a Server

    All monitoring and control activities are performed within a specific Pulse system.Follow this first time connection procedure to get the proper Authentication as aPulse Mobile User from your System Administrator. After that, get the proper User

    authorizations to Login into the Pulse system.

     Adding a new Server

    1 Click on Mobile phone Main menu.

    This opens the Show/Hide Pulse Menu options.

    The three Hide/Show menu options at the bottom of the Pulse Servers screenare:

    Option Description

     Add Server Adds a new Pulse Server (i.e., configure parameters for a newconnection). You can connect to as many servers (andtherefore projects) as needed. Each project is accessed byPulse Mobile, one at a time. You need to Logout from thecurrent server and then, open another one.

    Settings Set Alarm General, Device or Email parameters.

    Help Online help about Pulse Mobile.

    Configuring the Server

    1 Select the Add Server icon.

    The Server Configuration screen opens.

    2 Fill in Server Info fields, the User Info fields are optional, (see Note below).

    The Server Configuration parameters are:

    NOTE *If you already filled in the “User Info” (User, Password and Domain) fields there is no need to manually fill in these fields again. You will gostraight to the Login screen. If these were not defined, Pulse Mobile will askfor this information each time you connect to a Server.

    Parameter Description

    Nickname Optional parameter, you can define a user-friendly name. “Pulse Mobile” displays in the Pulse Servers list.

    [Server] Address The Server IP Address (in decimal format###.###.###.###) or Host name

    Port Server side connection Port setting address

    Server using SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) - Transport layer encryption securityenabled. Used only when the server configuration usesthe SSL security mode.

    User* Optional, the User name in the Operator mode.

    Password* Optional, user Password.

    Domain* Optional, Server domain. Used only for Windowsauthentication and Windows Login authentication modes.

    3 Click on OK button.

    You will get a pop up message stating that your device is not yet authenticated (noaccess permissions), contact your System Administrator and get authenticated.

    4 After your device is authenticated, access the program and enter theapplication.

    If you are alreadyauthenticated, gostraight to application

    Error message - you are NOT yet Authenticated by Sys. Adm. Get Authenticated by Sys. Adm.

    Edit Server option

    If a Server is already defined in the system, you can Edit the Server parameters or just make changes.

    Current Servers button (long click) -> Server Menu (Edit/Delete/Connect) ->Server Configuration.

    Delete Erases the currently selected Sever.

    Connect Takes you to Server Login Alarms screen.

    Pulse Settings for all Servers

    Settings is an option, that can be accessed either from the bottom Menu bar whenentering Pulse Mobile and also in the Alarms Main Menu.

    This Setting option lets you set the configuration parameters for all Alarmnotifications and Data Items for all Servers.

    You determine how and in what way to get all the Alarm notifications and Data.

    Parameter Description

     Alarm Refresh Rate Time (in milliseconds, default = minimum 500) betweenAlarm message refresh.

    Data Refresh Rate Time (in milliseconds, default = minimum 500) betweenData refresh.

    Session Timeout Amount of time (1-60 minutes, default = 10 minutes) of nouser activity before system requests re-login (with/withoutpassword reconfirm).

    Register on Alarm viaNotification Service

    Device notification, (ON/OFF) will alert when PulseMobile receives Alarms. An Afcon icon will appear inthe top Android screen menu bar.

    Use NotificationSound

    Sound when notification (ON/OFF) is delivered.

    Notifications RefreshRate

    Time (in milliseconds, default 30 seconds; minimum 10seconds) between Items’ notification message refresh.

    Register on Alarm viaEmail Notification

    Receive a notification (ON/OFF) for an alarm via an Email.

    Email Address Define (optional) which of your emails will receive Alarm

    notifications.

    Login to Server

    Once one or more servers are defined, Login into a Server and begin working withall the Pulse modes and functionlities, accessing the Alarms and or Data Modes.

    Login to the Alarms and then access Alarms & Data Modes. If you already definedthe User, Password and Domain you will automatically enter the Server. If not,manually fill in the Login fields

    Overlay Help for Alarms/Data or Filter

    When logging in to the application for the first time, a Help Overlay shows youoptions in the Alarms view or the Data views.

    The overlay just shows you what Main menu options are available.

     Alarms and Data

    Pulse Mobile provides two working Modes:

    Alarms (by default this is first preference)

    Data

    There is a Main Menu that runs in the background within these two main screensfor easier navigation.

    Main Menu

    Once in the Alarms or Data screens you can access the Main menu. Swipe theAlarms or Data screens to see this Main menu.

    Parameter Description

     Alarms Returns you back to Alarm Mode screen.

    Data Opens main Data Mode screen.

    Refresh Alarms are usually refreshed automatically but this option letsyou do a manual refresh.

    Help Opens the Pulse Mobile User Guide.

     About General information about Pulse Mobile application version.

    Logout Returns you back to Server default screen.

    Settings Opens Alarms or Data Settings screen. Set Alarm General,

    Device or Email parameters. (See page 13, Pulse Settings forall Servers).

     Alarm View Types

    In the Alarm Mode, alarms can be viewed in 3 ways with optional Filtering settings.

    The same alarm might appear in different Last, Functional (hierarchy) or Location(hierarchy) trees within the system. (See Alarms Filters Feature on page 31).

    Last - List of incoming alarms in reverse chronological order, latest alarmson top.

    Functional - Drill down list to view various Alarms divided by functionaltasks and assignments in your facility.

    Location - The subdivision of an alarm occurrence by physical location inyour facility.

    Pulse Mobile opens with an Alarm list in the default, Last display mode.

    By selecting each Item detail view you get a current value and graphical trend perItem.

    Filter option -(available in “Functional” and “Location” modes ONLY).

    Filter Option

    This option is for Functional and Location views only.

    Filter alarms by certain criteria in order to see only certain alarm states. (See AlarmFilters Feature on page 31).

    The filtering options are:

    Show All

    Hide Cleared Alarms

    Hide Acknowledged Alarms

    Hide Cleared Or Acknowledged Alarms

    Hide Cleared And Acknowledged Alarms

     Alarm Notification

    When an alarm is triggered and sent to your Pulse Mobile phone, a Pulse alarmnotification icon and message appear in the corner of your mobile phone screenand in the Adroid.

    Last

    Open the Alarms and you are automatically in the Last (alarms) branch. The list is

    created from the last time you clicked on the Pulse Alarm Notification icon.

    In the Last view display, triggered Alarms are listed in reverse chronological order.

    Click on each alarm to open a detailed alarm parameter list.

    There are three buttons for further alarm handling, the Alarm Information,

    Acknowledge and Go to Branch buttons as well as a trend graph of the Block’svalue.

    NOTE Acknowledge and Go to Branch require proper User authentication.

     Alarm State Colors

    The Alarm State color code defaults are shown in the figure below, (taken from theServer settings already configured).

    The color-coded bar to the left of the detailed Alarm parameters shows the alarm’s

    State as defined in the project.

    Click on any alarm to open the detailed parameters, a list drop down. These arethe parameter:

    Acknowledge

    Information (default, about Item details)

    Block Name The instance name of the block in the project.

     Value Current block value.

    Start Time Time the Alarm was first started (could be trigger time).

     Ack Time Time the Alarm was last acknowledged.

    Clear Time Time the Alarm was cleared from active state (no violation).

    Cont. Time Last time a specific Alarm was triggered (first alarm notcleared, marked always).

    Acknowledge is an option where you acknowledge and alarm and add a commentabout it.

    Item Detail - Landscape Orientation view

    Turn your mobile phone to a landscape orientation, this shows the graphic sectionin an expanded full view. This is helpful in seeing more details in an Item’s datastream.

    To Zoom in, “Pinch to Open” is the default technique. If you use the Crosshair toolview then use the magnifying glass icon as well.

    Use the Zoom or Crosshair tools to view more detailed Item data along the graph.

    Sharing your Alarm information

    Pulse Mobile screens and data can be shared. Clicking your phone’s option menuwhile you are in the Items Details screen opens the Item Menu options used forsharing data.

    Share - send a screen shot to someone.

    SMS - send a text only message to another phone.

    Dial - dial direct to someone from the screen.

    The Alarm Functional view displays Alarms in a functional tree format.

    You can view branches and alarms. The branches can reflect organizational needslike assembly lines, packaging, cooling systems, etc.

     Alarm Location View

    The next Alarm view is the Location option.

    The Alarm Location view displays all Alarms in a specific location enabling you tosee alarms only at one location. Projects with multiple locations can ignore alarmsin locations not serviced by a local operator.

    You can view branches and alarms. The Location branches can reflectorganizational structuring systems like production floors, shipping platforms,offices, stairwells, and other places.

     Alarms Filters Feature

    Filtering alarms is the next option in the next Alarm branch.

    The Alarm Filters feature lets you filter Alarms in the Functional and Locationviews only.

    This feature lets you see alarms which are in a category you need to filter quickly.In addition to the built-in filters, any filters defined in the project are also available,(this depends on User’s authentication).

    The built-in filter categories are:

    Data

    Once you are already logged into Pulse Mobile you can access the Data Mode.

    The Data mode lets you access and manage all the Groups of Items in your system,

    investigate and edit the values of all those Items. The flowchart below shows theworking options within the Data mode.

    Groups

    The first selected Data view is the Groups option. You can see Groups created inthe pulse system or add your own manually from your Pulse Mobile device.

    Groups can either be:

    Created - by using the “Add Group” option or in the server. In theapplication, click on a Group to open Item Group details.

    Selected - selecting a Group opens Item Group details that were previouslycreated in the Pulse project.

     Add Group option

    As a default there will be no Items contained within a Group. This is the “UntitledGroup*” screen.

    1 Add this new group (by clicking on the Add Group button).

    2 Give the Group a name.

    3 Use the Item Group editing buttons at the bottom of the screen to edit the newinserted Items.

    Item Group buttons enable: Adding, Browsing (via the) Item Explorer, Saving,and Save as (new group). Editing actions are saved for all your personal settingsonly.

    Once an Item Group is edited, saved edits will show up on the operator screen.

    These Editing buttons are divided into two main functions, editing by:

    Adding Items - Manually add the Item Type.

    Adding Items via Explorer - Browse from the list.

    The Editing Item buttons are:

    Icon Description

    Edit Item (pencil) Add new Item and description to Group list.

     Add (Plus sign) with Itemexplorer

    Browse/drill down to specific Item and modify oradd a description of existing Item.

    Save New Group Name - Save with a Name.

    In the Data/Groups screen there is a list of all the Groups in your system. Selectone of them.

    In the Item Details screen view each Item’s data, values, settings and editingoptions. Editing can be done (by clicking on the pencil icon at the bottom of thescreen, if you are authorized to do so). 

    Each Group screen (with the group’s name in the banner) displays all the Items inthe group. The bottom row buttons lets you edit add a new group or save.

    These Items are defined by the project itself.

    Group Items

    Selecting Group Items opens a list of all Items under all the Groups.

     

    Select a Group Item, the Item Details screen opens.

    You can also perform a long click on the Group Item, a pop-up menu opens withtwo options:

    Delete (Group Item) or

    Open Item Details screen.

    From the Group Items > Item Details screen see each Item’s data, values,settings and data stream.

    Favorites

    The Data Mode Favorites display shows only those (favorite) Items you selected(or starred) previously in the Group Items screen.

    1 To select (“Star”) a Favorite, go to the Gr o u p I t e m s   screen and click on aGroup. The selection star is highlighted.

    2 Go to the Favorites option, view the list of all Favorite Items selected.

    3 Short click on a Favorite field, this opens the Items Details screen.

    4 Long click on the Favorite entry and a Remove From Favorite menu pops up
