GOODBYE to 2020!

Get lost and NEVER come back! Into the rear view mirror you go. And take all your troubles, your turmoil, your tumult and tantrums with you. Down with the doldrums, the boredom, dullness and tedium, and the day to day tussle of dealing with all the bad news and the ensuing blues.

Association members are bouncing back. Association members are not ones to dwell on dreary traditions such as “New Year’s resolutions”. Not us!

We are ready for our new Senior Center to open, and ready for new horizons. Here is a sample of some of our personal plans and aspirations: “I look forward to eating inside a restaurant with friends. I'm sick of take out!”

“Get healthy and work towards better quality of life. Get back into walking again with my group and keep in better touch with old friends.” “Family first, always. And, stay away from all of those cookies!”

“I will enjoy very much not having to wear a mask when around others. Being able to have lunch and meals anywhere without restrictions.”

“I would like to be able to go on tours to destinations in other states without having to quarantine when arriving.”

“I will never under-appreciate a potluck ever again. A simple potluck is a blessing we give to one another.”

“Will not miss the smell of hand sanitizer.”

“Making a ‘joyful noise’ someplace other than in the shower!”

“Eat more bacon, why not ?”

Have volunteered to be direct contacts who members can call with questions.

The Board met on Dec. 16, 2020. The new officers were installed, but without the usual hugs and handshakes. We have an energetic group full of fresh ideas and ready to take on whatever 2021 brings.

We got the grant!!!

Millie and Vickie worked hard against a very tight timeline and got all the paperwork together in time to apply for the 2020 COVID-19 Nonprofit Relief Program grant administered by Whitman County. The total amount awarded was $5,350.00. This grant program is intended for groups like ours who have not been able to hold our regular fundraising activities due to Covid-19.

These funds will enable us to carry on with the newsletter, (our major expense at this time) and pay for our liability insurance.

In early March we will be applying for a grant from the Pullman Rotary Club to pay for an updated sound system for the new Senior Center. Wish us luck!!

Pullman City Hall and the Pullman Recreation Center buildings will be closed for the next few weeks. The COA meal programs will continue as scheduled. City business will be conducted by phone and appointment.

Tax Preparation Assistance

AARP Tax Aide will be able to offer tax

preparation assistance beginning in February,

2021 at the 1912 Center in Moscow.

Appointments are required. Masks and social

distancing will be the protocol. There will be a

limited number of appointments available.

AARP has had to severely limit the number of

people at the tax site. The local coordinator

suggests if you have a complex tax return to

please consider seeking professional assistance.

2021 We think about this past year

And all the things we had to fear But now we look ahead with cheer That vaccine we waited for is here.

Very soon we will be free And friends we miss soon we'll see

At the Senior Center and other places Can hardly wait to see their faces.

The meals we eat at the new location Will make us feel we're on vacation

A trip with friends we've missed so much Can hardly wait to eat that lunch.

Soups and salads and pies and cake And birthdays we remember and time to take

To laugh and smile and play some cards And other games that aren't too hard.

We need to sing our song so loud

it could be heard in the biggest crowd

We are happy to be with one another

In this new year like no other

In sympathy we remember our members...

- Lilian Ackerman passed away October 19, 2020. She was an anthropologist at Washington State University. She was recognized by Marquis Who's Who Top scientists for dedication, achievements and leadership in anthropology.

- Richard "Dick” Emerson passed away October 21, 2020. Dick owned and operated the Empire Department Store in downtown Pullman.

The Member to Member Outreach program continues to be supported by our wonderful donors and will extend into the New Year. As of this newsletter we are delighted to report that the fund has collected nearly $1,000! The Program will continue for as long as there is a need.

Your support can go to a person of your choosing, or be an unspecified gesture of caring for someone in our community. If you know of other senior citizens who would benefit from inclusion under this program, please contact a board member.

All those who donate are acknowledged in our newsletter unless you choose to remain anonymous.

Forget about the holiday leftovers and enjoy a fresh, hot home-cooked meal without the holiday hassle.

Meals can be picked up at the Pullman Recreation Center, 190 SE Crestview St., Bldg B, Senior Center Entrance.
