2. New SFE Coordinator Mdm Anidah has left us since end September and Ms. Candace Chan has beenstanding in as SFE Coordinator in October. Ms Esther Yeo will start in November as our new SFE Coordinator.

3 Planning Proposals for Activities in Year 2012Mr Phua briefed the parents on 2012 school calendar. The SFE coordinator andMs Fern will plan and add on the SFE talks and other PSG activities to thecalendar. When done, the PSG Schedule will be updated accordingly.

4 Events Outside Planned PSG Schedule(1) Peoples Association Family Life Section: Card Game Design Competition

The PA Family Life Section is organising Happy Family Game 2011 cardgame design competition and it is opened to all Secondary and Tertiarystudents. Its objective is for students & their families to create card games thatfacilitate family bonding. Ms Fern has passed down the info to the students viathe art teacher. Finalist stands a chance to win up to $1000 cash.

(2) MCYS: Dads For Life 2 nd Anniversary Drama PerformanceMCYS has commissioned local drama company Act 3 International to developa skit for presentation as one of the item at the event and is recruitingsecondary school students for the skit. Ms. Fern have already given all theinformation to Ms. Andrea Nathan, teacher in charge of English LanguageDrama Society.

(3) Prima Deli: Prima Taste Cooking WorkshopPrima Deli has pitched the idea of conducting cooking classes (either demonstration only or with hands on) for Regent Sec PSG parents. The mainaim is for team bonding among parents. PSG will consider it as possible futureactivity for PSG parents.

(4) Parent Forum by Singapore Polytechnics at Greenridge Sec School

Greenridge Sec in partnership with Singapore Polytechnic will be conducting atalk to educate parents on polytechnic education and course selection. RegentSec parents are invited to attend. The talk will be held at Greenridge Sec on 25Nov 2011. Parents who are interested can call Greenridge Secondary at67601052 for more details.

5 Discussion On Some Future PSG Events(1) Dads For Life Programme

Prawning was suggested to be the next Dads For Life event in Term 1. Parentshad suggested the event to be held on a Saturday evening. Wei Yin will gather information and inform the details on a later date.

(2) Regent Cultural Night & Awards DayMr Phua intends to hold the Awards Day together with the Cultural Night andthe two programmes are scheduled to be held 2~3 weeks before the mid year exams. Tentative date set is 13 April 2012 and the venue is at Kallang Theatre.

7 Facilitator Course For ParentsWei Yin highly recommended the above course for parents, especially parents of lower secondary students.Three of our parents, Wei Yin, Karen and Martina are attending the July ~ Novcourse. In this course, facilitation skills are being taught which can be very usefulin our daily life. Topics on family, marriage, tweenies, adolescents, relationships,especially teenage behaviour, communication with teenagers, etc are beinghighlighted and discussed.Exchanges of experiences with parents from other schools also helps in theunderstanding of our children.

This course is highly subsidised by MCYS.The new SFE Facilitator Course will be starting in January 2012.Wei Yin urges interested parents to sign up for the course. Parents can downloadapplication form from MCYS website or request a copy from SFE coordinator.

9 Past School Events

Coffee Talk 30th

Sept 2011Flyers were distributed to parents driving their kids to school to invite them tothe coffee talk. It was targeted at parents who have a little time to spare beforework. However, there was only one parent who turn up that morning. Parentshad suggested to schedule coffee talk session on Saturday afternoons for possible better parents participation.

Night Study Programme for Sec.4 and Sec.5 Pupils 26 th Sept ~ 12 th Oct 2011Mr Phua mentioned that the NA students were also interested in the programmebut was not given the chance.The efficiency of the program will only be known after the release of the O levelresults and whether the programme will be continued next year will depend onthe results.

Mr Phua thanked PSG members for the contribution of snacks and drinks for the programme.

PSG also extend their appreciation to the school and all the dedicated teacherswho have sacrifice their time to help our graduating students in this programme.

Parenting Talk by SPF Outreach Program for At Risk Kids 8 th Oct 2011Singapore Police Force piloted the talk at Regent Sec. Their main target is toreach out to families with problem kids and to work with these families to helpthe kids. SPF will be conducting talks at more schools. Parents who haveattended the talk felt that it was an eye-opening experience.

Achievers Tea 27 th Oct 2011Mr Phua informed that selection criteria for students to attend the AchieversTea were based on their improvement from the last exam results. The studentsconduct is also taken into consideration.

11 Any Other Matters School Uniform

Quality of cloth for shirtsKris feedback that the cloth used for the shirts was rough and her child felthot wearing it.The school will highlight this matter to the school uniform vendor to usesmoother material. SocksMr. Phua confirmed that all Regenites have to wear the Regent socks as thisgives the students a sense of belonging.

Tracy pointed out that her childs socks were too short and the wordREGENT cannot be seen after wearing them on.

The school will confirm with the vendor on the availability of various sizes for the school socks.

Certificates of AppreciationCertificates of Appreciation were presented to PSG members by Mr. Phua for their participation and contributions to school events in Year 2011.

Mr Phua welcomes more parents to share with him any other issues of concernand to work closely with the PSG to have better improvement in every aspectfor the school and the students.
