Roadmap of systems
EPD background
The Executive Project Dashboard (EPD) system was implemented in 2009 to
institutionalize programme and project management
Monitoring of projects through the Executive Project Dashboard (EPD) system and
programme and project management methodology delivered project
performance data to various stakeholders
The system enabled end-users to categorise projects as APP and or PDO
contributors in order to customise reporting, and projects could even be linked
National Outcomes.
This system was used by Provincial Treasury to analyse departmental project
performance against APP indicators and to facilitate bi-annual project progress
engagements between the Premier and department.
Departments were encouraged to use data generated through the EPD system to
support the drafting of Annual Reports.
EPD system issues & motivations for replacements
EPD could not integrate to share data with any other system
Within the broader province wide M&E and the development of BizBrain,
the journey has evolved to integration and automation.
EPD had very limited reporting capabilities and was more a monitoring
tool than a planning and management tool.
EPD did not cater for system approvals and the administrative tasks to
load and maintain projects became a unnecessarily time consuming.
Maturity levels of programme and project management improved,
stakeholders required more advice system functionality.
In 2012 WCG partnered with Microsoft to develop EPM and replace EPD

• This is the Enterprise Project Management system.
• Manage strategic and department-specific projects, based on
sound PM principles.
• This is the Annual Performance Assessment system.
• Ease of generation of the APP-, QPR- and AR tables.
• This is the BI system.
• Single point of access to relevant and reliable data and
information, in a range of formats.
The WCG has embarked on a suite of Information Technology products that will help
the Province provide better services together, strategically plan and conduct
province-wide monitoring and evaluation more efficiently.
To enhance efficiency and effectiveness in governance and the management of
performance with automated reporting, the following key transversal performance
management systems have been developed:
