Writing a bid number on the bid form is a promise to purchase an item. Don’t cross out or erase bids.

You may bid on as many items as you wish, as often as you wish, up to the close of the auction section—see closing times on the first page of program and on auction tables.

Item will go to the person making the highest valid bid in excess of the minimum bid. In order to be valid, bids must have a bid number and amount written legibly in the appropri-ate columns of the item bid sheet. Please pay attention to minimum bid and minimum raise amounts. The first bid on an item must be equal to or greater than the printed mini-mum bid. All subsequent bids must be in increments equal to or greater than the printed minimum raise. Any bid not satisfying the conditions of these rules may be rejected by the Auction Manager, and the items sold to the next highest valid bidder.

“Bidding wars” will be monitored. At the close of auction, competing bidders will be asked to write their best offers on a slip of paper. The process will be repeated until ties are bro-ken.

Winning bidder numbers will be posted following the close of the silent auction.

Payments for all items are to be made this evening by cash or by check made out to “Christ Church”. Checkout will begin approximately 10 minutes after the conclusion of the live auction. Items may be picked up at that time – please do not remove any items from the auction tables.

Values set on auction items are donor stated values. Amounts paid over and above the stated item values may be tax deductible. Please consult with your tax professional.

HG127 --Emerald Glass Aladdin Oil Lamp Emerald Glass Aladdin Oil Lamp with Glass Shade with Violets: A new century had come to America, but it had yet to bring it from the age of darkness. People still lived by the flickering light of flat wick oil or kerosene lamps. The dawn of the century was about to change the lives of many people and one company would be at the heart of bringing light to those lives. "The Mantle Lamp Company of America" (later to be-come "Aladdin Industries Inc.") was about to bring America forth from its darkness with a unique product--the Aladdin mantle lamp. Aladdin lamps were unique in the use of a round wick to provide an even non flickering flame, and a rare earth mantle that glowed to produce the light of a 60 watt light bulb when heated by the flame from the kerosene lamp. The differ-ence between the light of the Aladdin lamps and any other oil or kerosene lamp was so great that the company offered a one thousand dollar reward to any person who could show them an oil lamp that could equal its light. The reward was never collected, and by the early 1930's seven million Aladdins had been sold. Donated by Mary Matthews; Estimated Value $305
