About Project

• This project is about providing toilets to large public gatherings and motivating people to use toilets. Helping in avoiding open defecation.

• In Maharashtra Alandi to Pandharpur and Dehu to Pandharpur around 3 lak + people walk down every year. This procession is called as wari. They take night halt at 30 various villages / towns on the way. Required toilets were not available at these locations. This used to result in massive pollution due to open defecation.

• Our Project Named as Nirmal Wari was focusing on Providing toilets, arranging end to end services for toilets. Ensuring volunteers participate and request people participating to use toilets.

How it is solved/ solution used :

• We studied for appropriate measures, various options available in the market for toilets, analyzed data for slurry generation. Calculated people participating, came up with sizing requirements' did all the ground work met various stakeholders. I came up with appropriate solution of portable toilets and convinced required stakeholders .

• In 2015 from Seva Sahayog we arranged toilets in 2 villages. I was part of core team in Seva Sahayog. I was leading this initiative for Seva Sahayog. The Pilot was successful in two villages and Solapur Collector adopted it for Pandharpur. Seva Sahayog ensured volunteer engagement with various volunteering organizations.

• In 2016 we conducted multiple surveys over 30 villages / towns. Done multiple presentations for funding right from Infosys to Finance minister, CM of Maharashtra. Finally Maharashtra CM approved funding for portable toilets for entire 30 towns/ villages Pandharpur wari. I trained govt officials based on 2015 experience to ensure success for Nirmal Wari Abhiyan in 2016. I took 3weeks of leave and ensure smooth execution across locations

• In 2017 we continued follow up with government and in Budget for Maharashtra state provision has been made for Nirmal Wari. Also Number of portable toilets were increased wrt 2016.

• Surveys across 33 Mukkams were conducted by Seva Sahayog & Local Teams

• For 2016 Hon CM of Maharashtra personally studied this model and approved the funds on exception basis

• In 2017 Hon Finance minister of Maharashtra added funding for this project in Budget as it was super successful in reducing open defecation & hurdles in making funds provision was known in 2016.
