PRIVATE TREATY SALE #4

Terms of Sale:
1. Each lot is offered for direct sale as priced – this is not an auction so no bidding will take
place.
2. All items are priced and sold in US dollars.
3. All lots are sold on a first-come first-serve basis.
4. Please quote the reference number(s) and corresponding price(s) for any items of interest
and email to: [email protected]. Alternatively, requests can be mailed to the address
below.
5. Confirmation of availability and a corresponding invoice will be sent within two (2) days of
receipt of any requests.
6. Additional charge for Postage and shipping will be added and detailed in the invoice. Sales
over $100 will be sent via registered mail or DHL courier or as agreed with the buyer.
7. Payment options: Paypal; US, UK or Australian Cheque; or Direct Deposit to US, UK or
Australian bank (details will be provided with invoice).
8. NVK Stamps warrants all sales and will accept returns (no questions asked) within two
weeks of receipt of the lots and will refund the purchase price and associated postage costs.
Where notified within two (2) weeks of the purchase time, extended returns are allowed on
items being forwarded for expertising (where expertising costs are to be borne by the buyer).
In the event a lot returns a negative certificate, NVK Stamps will only refund in full the
purchase price and postage charges related to that specific lot. Refunds will take place
immediately on receipt of any returned lot(s).
9. A copy of the Private Treaty Sales will be available to view on the NVK Website
(www.nvkstamps.com) and will be regularly updated to reflect lots that have been sold.

PTS4-01. Stampless Official Cover front with Manuscript 'R.S.' (Royal Servicio) and official handstamp from Nueva Vizcaya. 17cm x 11.5cm. Blue Small Baeza (28 January 1859) receiving circular date stamp. Age soiling otherwise a lovely looking front. Scarcer usage.

PTS4-06. Scott #1. 5c Queen Isabella issue, used with Circle of Dots Cnacel on lower right section. Three good margins, a little tight on bottom but clear of frame line. Very fresh colour and early printing evident from the very fine background lines around the Queen’s bust. Purple Boxed E.V. handstamp on reverse. Scott Catalog Value $350. Seldom offered so fine.

PTS4-09. Scott #35. Used single stamp with Provincial Crown Cancel. A lighter strike but clearly showing the scarce official usage on an early issue. Stamp with good colour and four very good to generous margins. Minor face scrape on top of head in centre, otherwise a nice looking stamp.

PTS4-12. Scott #69. 200m stamp with large Circular Punch Hole indicating a Remainder stamp (returned to the Postal Administration for refund or swap). Good colour with some blunt perfs on bottom left. Nice specialist item and seldom seen.

PTS4-13. Scott #162. 8c King Alfonso XIII issue on small commercial cover from Manila to St Gall, Switzerland. Stamp tied with 'Correos - Manila' (21 November 1894) CDS. French (4 December 1894) Paquebot dated cancel on reverse and 27 December 1894 receiving CDS on reverse. Vertical fold in centre, not affecting stamp. Some toning on cover front, otherwise a very cute and attractive cover.

PTS4-17. Scott #YF1. 8c Aguinaldo Certificado Vertical Pair Error. Bottom horizontal Perforations Omitted. Mint (OG, HR). Some discolouration showing around perfs from gum when applied after the perforation process. Very fresh, deep green shade. Lovely addition to any Aguinaldo collection. Striking error and seldom offered.

Overseas Usage – Marianas Forgeries
PTS4-19. King Alfonso XII and XIII stamps (including Recargo de Consumos) overprinted with black rectangular boxed 'Marianas Espanolas' overprint. All forgeries on stamps that was not officially overprinted. The genuine stamps only occurred on six values of the 1898 series. Excellent reference group. Generally fine overall condition.

1936 – Calvo and Arnaiz Special Cover
PTS4-20. Cover with 'Office of the Mayor – Manila' corner card to Madrid, Spain. Special cover endorsed 'Pilots del Raid Manila-Madrid, 11 July, 1936'. Very interesting and first we have seen.
On May 29, 1936, Arnaiz and Calvo took off in their barebones Fairchild model 24 (dubbed Commonwealth of the Philippines), with no radio, parachutes or seat belts. The dangerous 'ARNACAL' flight finally put the Philippines on the map in terms of aviation, with the two becoming the first Filipinos to cross the China Sea by air. After bouts with treacherous weather, a leaking gas tank, and multiple delays, the two arrived in Madrid on July 11th.

PTS4-21. Scott #485-496, E10. Complete set of Victory stamps (including Special Delivery issue) on long First Day Cover. Some minor gum toning around perfs on some stamps otherwise generally fine. Difficult to find full set on single cover (normally missing high values).

PTS4-26. AAMC-10c. Manila to Aparri, Cagayan cancelled 31 January 1926 with 3 February Aparri Receiving CDS on reverse. Cover Returned to Sender with Manila 10 February receiving cancel. Some toning on front, mainly around stamp perfs. Very scarce, stated that only 26 Letters sent. This cover does not possess the Boxed Cancel (Type 6) noted in AAMC.

PTS4-32. Scott #NO3. Used Registry Return Receipt with stamp tied by Wavy Line Cancel. Rough card with tear on bottom left and ink stains on front. Card Number 61386-1. Scarcer usage for this card but poor overall condition. Sold at low price to compensate for overall condition.

Japanese Occupation
1943 – National Heroes Souvenir Sheet Proof
PTS4-33. Scott #NB8 Proof. Mint (OG, NH). Unissued Souvenir Sheet where about 200,000 were printed but never issued. They were discovered in the vaults of the Main Post Office during the battle to retake Manila in February 1945. Only about 100 intact copies survived the subsequent fire and wholesale looting. Very scarce and much sought after.
