    to

    protect

    trade

    through

    the Atrien Straits. The Principality has gained

    independence from the WitchKings and its capital,

    Belmord,hasbecome awealthyport along theGolden

    Route. The people enjoy a great deal of freedom and

    prosperity andhave earned a reputation for adventure

    becausesomuchoftheregionisuntamed.

    Human & Dwarf Settlements

    Belmord,population11,000.Thisisthenewcapitalandwasbuilt200yearsagobyValianIIIaftertheWarofthe

    WitchKing.

    The

    citys

    architecture

    is

    dominated

    by

    massive stone andbrick structureswith three separate

    walls ringing the city. It is currently ruled by the

    SorceressPrincessAltariel.There isa standinggarrison

    of 800and in timesofwar thisnumber canbe tripled.

    Belmordalsoboastsasmallbuteffectivenavy.

    Varhelm,population1,500.AdwarvenclanholdruledbyIronThaneThoerfel,sonofAgmundr.attheheadof

    the Eldabrand River. Varhelm maintains a series of

    intricate lockson theEldabrandRiverallowing trade to

    flowfrom

    the

    thanedom

    to

    Belmord

    and

    beyond.

    To

    keep this vital trade route open the IronThane has

    honoredthetreatyhefirstsignedwithValianIII.

    GriffonsClaw,population600.Onceanoutpostusedby raiders, Griffons Claw has grown into an

    independentsettlementruledbyLurien,LordCaptainof

    theFreeFleet.WhatlawthereiswithinGriffonsClawis

    harshandswift.Mostargumentsaresettledattheendof

    ablade. While greatly feared, the Free Fleet hasbeen

    knowntoaidthoseattackedbyorcsandgoblins.

    Dunwall, population 300. A small logging villagelocated along the northern forest, its noteworthy only

    because it iswhere the reddragonVelmaxian recently

    vanquishedSirIsenhart.

    Trevain, population 1,100. In addition to being afarming community, it serves as home to many

    mercenaries and adventurers. The local baron relies

    upontheservicesofthesesellswordstoprovidesecurity

    tothetownwhenthreatened.

    Orwain, population900.Thisoutpostwasestablishedwhere

    the

    Fox

    River

    empties

    into

    Cabrian

    Bay.

    Its

    harbor

    is unusually fortified as a result of frequents raidsby

    lizardmenandtheFreeFleet.

    Other Places

    Belscar, theold capitalofKedmere,was razedby thearmies of the WitchKing. Several small watchtowers

    havebeenbuiltinsightoftheruins,howevertheguard

    rarely ventures into the old city to rescue fools who

    ignoretheirwarningtostayout.

    TheMaladet

    Isles were once home to the

    towerknownasMelorasBeacon,whichwarned sailors

    of dangerous waters. Fifty years ago a strange violent

    stormpassedover the isles leavingno traceof the fate

    thatbefell the inhabitants.Harpiesandhagshave taken

    up residence in the ruins andwebbed footprints have

    beenspottedonthebeach.

    TalaedrasLabyrinthswereconsideredtobeonlyagoblintale until just over thirty years ago when

    adventurersfellintoanopeningwhilegivingchasetoa

    troll.

    Named

    for

    the

    only

    surviving

    member

    of

    that

    partywho isnowtheAbbessoftheSanctuaryoftheTwiligh

    Maiden. This region is riddled with chambers, caves

    mazes, secretpassages and traps.The originalbuilders

    remain a mystery because the labyrinths predate any

    knownsettlementoftheregion.

    Wraithcourtsitsattheheartofadeadland.OncethehomeoftheNinthLegion, legendholdsthatacursefel

    upon the tower when the legionbroke its oath to its

    sovereign.Tothisdaytheoutpostisstillhauntedbythe

    undeadremnantsofthedoomedcompany.

    TheBonePaintedOrcsarerarely foundwithin theborders ofKedmere.Dwarven traders claim that these

    savagesworshipthedreadspiritsofWraithcourt.

    Tulenwood is a remnant of the original forestwhichcoveredmostof thesouthernhalfof theprincipality.A

    few tribes ofLizardmen still inhabit the low landnear

    the coast,but thehillbandits aremoreof a concern to

    mosttravelers.AlthoughKedmereclaimstheforest,they

    seemtohavenocontrolofit.
