Education Week Newsletter
Happy Education Week to all our Seaham families. I
hope you have had a chance to witness our Public
Speaking Finals, visit our book fair or just spend time
talking with your child about school and their many
achievements. Education Week is a time to celebrate
the quality teaching and learning that occurs
everyday at Seaham and in our 2,200 Public Schools
in NSW.
During this time when our athletes are competing in
the Olympic Games in London we also celebrate
many sporting achievements at Seaham. Our Zone
Athletics Team who travel to Raymond Terrace
shortly to compete in the Zone Carnival, our Netball
Team who are through to round 5. We also wish our
Girls Touch Football Team well before their match
with Dungog tomorrow.
Zone Athletics Change of Date
Congratulations to all students who qualified for the
Zone Carnival. The track and field days have been
put back one week due to the condition of the track.
The new dates are now the 14th for field events and
the 17th of August for track events.
Valuables at School
Please remind your children to leave valuable items
at home. Mobile phones, iPods etc are small and
tempting. Recently I have noticed an increase in
these types of things at school. The loss of these
valuables can be very upsetting, not to mention
costly.
Recently a white with pink iPod touch has gone
missing from one of our student’s bags. This item
was a recent birthday present and its loss has been
very upsetting for its owner. If anyone knows of its
whereabouts or has seen it, please contact the
school.

Evacuation Drill
Zone Athletics Change of Date
Today Seaham School conducted an
evacuation drill. Congratulations to all the
students on their very calm manner, this
made the process run very smoothly.
Our girls touch football team will travel to
Lakeside at Raymond Terrace tomorrow to
play their 1st round PSSA game against
Dungog Public. If they are successful they will
then play their 2nd round against
Grahamstown Public also tomorrow. Good
luck girls!
As mentioned in Mr Partridge’s news, the Zone
Athletic Carnival has been changed to the 14th
(Field) and 17th (Track) August. Students
representing Seaham will appear in next week’s
edition.
Public Speaking
Yesterday our school held a Public Speaking Final to
determine our representatives for the Hunter and
Central Coast Primary Schools Public Speaking
Competition for 2012.
Several students from each class were chosen by their
class teachers in the lead up to the school final and then
had to compete against each other in an effort to
choose the two best speakers from each Stage. Just to
make it to the school final is an achievement in itself.
Congratulations to all of the following students.
Stage One: Tim Kerkhof, Brylee Brown, Rhianna
Brooker, Clare Moroney, Brooklyn Clarke, Oscar Mella
and Jasmine Armitage.
Stage Two: Bridie Holloway, Cameron Parker, Jordan
Flynn, Milla Kime, Olivia Teterin, Sophie Taylor and Joe
Richards.
Stage Three: Joel Wevers, Erin Meredith, Kelsey
Burridge, Taylah Baylis, Tom Lidbury, Juliet Taylor,
Jazmin Neilson and Abbey Baylis for their well written
speeches and for the impressive job they did on
presenting them.
It was especially challenging for the younger students in
each Stage, having to compete against students a year
ahead of them. The marking criteria was very specific
and it was pleasing to see such high scores from ALL of
the speakers.
For Stage One, Seaham Public School will be
represented by Claire Moroney and Brooklyn Clarke.
Stage Two will see Milla Kime and Sophie Taylor in the
Zone Finals and Kelsey Burridge and Juliet Taylor will
represent Stage Three.
Special mention to Taylah Baylis and Abbey Baylis who
were also outstanding in the Stage Three Finals and
were narrowly beaten by half a point and one point
respectively.
