On behalf of Dianna and myself, greetings and welcome to the Planning

Meeting of the Bluegrass District for the 2020-2021 Conference Year! We

honor God for His sustaining grace in blessing us since the Planning Meeting

in March to continue in Kingdom building in our various areas of service

even as we have not had sanctuary gathering.

We welcome to the District Historic Saint Paul and Quinn Chapel, both in

Lexington, with Pastors Robert A. Strode and William C. Jenkins. We also

welcome the Reverends Cathy Jacobs at Saint John in Monticello and Philip

Johnson at Saint John in Greenup.

We welcome Presiding Elder William R.T. and Chaplain Melissa George Hale

(USAF) along with the Commonwealth District for our workshop and

congratulate them on their recent nuptials!

We welcome the Reverend Conitras M. Houston, pastor of Trinity African

Methodist Episcopal Church in Atlanta, a visionary respected leader who

tirelessly works for kingdom building. God has blessed me to gain a few

sisters, not by blood but by the spirit, and I am happy to claim her as one!

Dianna and I are excited to continue to lead the Blessed Bluegrass District!

The last two years have seen us grow in spirit and numerically, and the best

is yet to come!

Galatians 6:9 reminds us “Let’s not get tired of doing good, because in time

we’ll have a harvest if we don’t give up.” In this spirit I commend you for all

you are doing and encourage you to higher heights in the LORD!

— Presiding Elder Kenneth J. Golphin —

The Reverend Conitras M. Houston A true woman of God, the Reverend Conitras M. Houston strives for excellence in ministry through the Word of God, the Work of God, and the Will of God. She sincerely loves God and God’s people; therefore, she professes boldly the words of 1 Corinthians 2:9

“…no eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him”!

Pastor “C,”as she isaffectionatelycalled, is thedaughterofBonitaHoustonandHaroldHouston, Jr.andistheproudbelovedsisterofHaroldHoustonIIIandBrianCollier.

In May of 2002, Pastor “C” accepted the call into the ministry and was subsequently admitted for training under the African Methodist Episcopal Church’s Board of Examiners. She delivered her initial sermon and was licensed to preach in December of 2002. Bishop William P. DeVeaux ordained Pastor “C” as an Itinerant Deacon in May of 2005 and an Itinerant Elder in May of 2008, both at the Atlanta-North Georgia Annual Conference.

Just shy of her ordination as an Itinerant Deacon, Pastor “C” graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Interpersonal & Organizational Communications with a minor in Spanish. While a student at UNC, Pastor “C” constantly pursued excellence in ministry and academia. To pursue her fluency in Spanish, she studied in at The University of Seville (La Universidad de Sevilla) Seville, Spain throughout the summer of 2004.

With all of her many campus obligations, Pastor “C” never took her focus off the work God has called her to do. In September of 2003, God gave Pastor “C” the vision to start a Bible Study based ministry, which she named “Saturdays In Christ.” "Saturdays In Christ" was an officially recognized campus organization on the campus of UNC- Chapel Hill with “Expansions” that included a Mime & Dance Ministry, a Spoken Word Ministry, as well as a Praise & Worship Team. On any given Saturday afternoon, Pastor “C” would consistently lead a Bible Study session for over 50 of her peers. Whenever weather prohibited Pastor “C” and her fellow Tar Heels from leaving campus for Sunday worship, they would gather together as Pastor “C” offered a sermon and led an upwards of 100 of her peers in worship.

When Pastor “C,” returned to Atlanta, GA in 2005, she quickly expanded her work of “Saturdays In Christ” into an annual performing arts conference known as “Spirit Movers for Christ”. It is through “Spirit Movers for Christ” that Pastor “C” shared her passion for mime, dance, and drama with over 100 children over the course of five days and concluded the intense week with a gospel stage production. Pastor “C” now hosts “Spirit Movers for Christ” in three different cities within the state of Georgia. In 2014, she and the Spirit Movers team were invited to expand their reach to the state of Arizona. Pastor “C” believes that music opens the hearts of young people and inspires them to be who they are truly created to be—Spirit Movers for Christ is one of the vessels God has equipped her to use to impact our world.

In February 2007, Pastor “C” was the youngest among only twelve recipients of Delta Sigma Theta’s Pinnacle Leadership Award. This prestigious award is presented by their Fortitude Educational and Cultural Development Foundation to honor, recognize, and celebrate local African-American women who make contributions to society and impact the lives of others—women who have achieved success in a chosen field and who personify the highest standards of service, leadership, and character. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.

In May of 2008, Pastor “C” completed her studies at Emory University’s Candler School of Theology earning a Master of Divinity Degree. During her time at Candler, Pastor “C” continued to strive towards excellence by being among only six students to be admitted into the Master of Divinity Thesis Program. She was also afforded the honor of preaching in one of the Fall 2007 Chapel services with an audience of faculty, staff, and students from the entire Emory University community.

Pastor “C” also believes in being a vital resource to her surrounding community. For this reason, she introduced Gabriel’s House, Inc. to the community of Fairburn, GA in the Fall of 2008. Gabriel’s House serves as a youth center and preserving agent for the entire community—instilling values of self-worth through performing arts, life skills training, and academic enrichment.

Pastor “C” is grateful for the opportunities that she has been given to serve the Lord’s people. After humbly serving as the Youth Pastor and Assistant Pastor of St. John A.M.E. Church in Fairburn, GA for five years, Pastor “C” served as the Pastor of St. Luke A.M.E. Church in Athens, GA until April 2011. In May of 2012, she was appointed as the Senior Pastor of the Greater Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church in Columbus, GA. Under her leadership, Greater Ward Chapel grew tremendously in membership, as well as ministry. The sanctuary and other areas of the facility were renovated debt-free, a community development center serving school-aged children was initiated, the surrounding community was served, and much more. In October 2016, after faithfully serving over four years in Columbus, GA, Pastor “C” was appointed as the first female and 38th pastor of Trinity A.M.E. Church in Atlanta, GA where she now serves a Quality-Rated Early Learning Center and a vibrant, growing congregation. Already, the congregation is increasing in membership and ministry with Pastor “C” as an enthusiastic and spiritually grounded leader. Pastor “C” is truly passionate about the work God has sent her to do—not only at Trinity but also around the entire world. For this reason, Pastor “C” continues to travel preaching and teaching the Good News while mentoring and encouraging Christians of all ages within the United States and abroad.

Beyond all of the technical information, the Reverend Conitras M. Houston loves the Lord. Since childhood, she has always pursued a walk with Christ. Pastor “C” is known for the following quote: “Since God is a God of excellence, God’s children SHALL excel!”

THE BLUEGRASS DISTRICT – CONSIDERATIONS

Concerning Sunday Visits: ➢ As you are aware, I am required during periods of normalcy to preach at one of your churches

each month. As travel to you right now is not feasible, we will work together to see how best to accomplish the same.

For Quarterly Conference Preparation & Other PE Meetings: Please send the PE a list of any Licenses expected to be issued or renewed so that they

may be prepared in advance of the meeting. Would prefer to renew licenses in the First Quarter if you approve.

If there are any Ordained Clergy (Superannuated, Supernumerary, Locals) or Licensed persons (Licentiates, Exhorters, etc.) who answer the roll at your QC (or are required to attend other PE District meetings), but cannot make it to the meeting at that date/time, please instruct them to call, text or email their PE personally before the date of the scheduled event. (text or email preferred) *

Please let your Presiding Elder know... • If you're sick or someone in your immediate family is ill or needs prayer. • If you're going to be out of your pulpit on a Sunday for any reason (sickness, vacation, etc.). • If you're going to be absent from an Episcopal District Meeting, inform the Bishop

beforehand “by request” (email preferred), but please copy your PE as well. • If you're going to be absent from a Presiding Elder's District Meeting, please inform me by

email. • If I can assist you in hospital or other visitations. • If there is a death in your membership or family. • If someone answers the call to preach, and when a trial sermon is scheduled. • Anticipate extra Quarterly Conference Business... Any appeals, a special request from the

Church Conference, resolution for loan request, etc.

Concerning New Preachers, Evangelists and Deaconesses: 1. The Call to Preach is to be taken seriously, and candidates should be examined by the Pastor

and Steward Board before being brought before the Church Conference and the Quarterly Conference.

2. Those candidates for Licenses to Preach or Exhort (or those seeking other vocations whose path brings them before the Presiding Elder, the Quarterly Conference and/or the District Conference) will be examined by the Presiding Elder in both a serious and spiritual manner, not with the intent to embarrass, but giving weight to the responsibility of ministry. At every level of “the path” the candidates must be vetted, and their “call” examined.

3. Once a new preacher has been licensed, it is suggested that they not be allowed into the pulpit right away, but must be given time to consider their new role, and make it easier for them to have an easier “exit” if they find themselves re-considering their “call”. If they are positioned too high, too fast, then they may find it more embarrassing to “step down” and remain in ministry for the wrong reasons or leave the Church all together to “escape”.

4. Any applicants for an Evangelist License must have a “focused” ministry, not simply seeking a title. Why do they need an “Evangelist” license? What will that do for them that their license to preach doesn’t already qualify them for?

5. Those seeking to be consecrated a Deaconess will be examined at the District Conference Level, both by the Committee on Ministerial Orders and the Presiding Elder, before being passed on to the Bishop and the Annual Conference. They too must have a focus to their ministry. If you have someone wishing to be a “Church Mother”, another method of acknowledging that status can be arranged.

KY CONFERENCE MINISTRIES – WMS

Hello to Each of You!! Praying All!!

I greet each of you with the Joy of the Lord, for the Joy of the Lord is My Strength. Nehemiah 8:10 First, let me take this time to Thank You for allowing me to serve as your Kentucky Conference WMS

President. With God and your help we will continue to serve and minister to all who needs support, prayers and encouragement.

We the Women’s Missionary Society count it all joy to be allowed the privilege to work with 3 Presiding Elder’s Districts. The Bluegrass District – Presiding Elder Reverend Kenneth J. Golphin, The Commonwealth District – Presiding Elder Reverend William Hale and The Louisville District, Presiding Elder Reverend Troy Thomas.

As the Kentucky Conference Woman’s Missionary Society begin to Pray, Plan, Praise and Serve others. We come Ready, Willing and Prepare to fight and continue the work that’s before us during this Covid Pandemic. God has called each Missionary, Associate Member, YPD’ers, Pastors and all Christian to go out and seek the lost.

Our Connectional Theme is God’s Commission, Our Mission, Our Calling. The Kentucky Conference Women’s Missionary Society Theme is: The Call Keeps Ringing For Mission and we the members of the Kentucky Conference Women’s Missionary Society will answer the ringing bell. Romans 12-9-13. “Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction and faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice Hospitality.

Let’s encourage one another during this most difficult time in our lives. During this Pandemic, God has not left us nor forsaken us. As Missionaries, our work is not complete because of this Pandemic. People are still Hungry, People are still Lonely, People are still Depressed. People are still in need of an Encouraging Word, People are still Lost, People need to know that God is Alive and Well. People need to know Jesus Loves me this I know.

As Missionaries we must be about our Father’s Business and not talk the talk but walk the walk. There’s work for all of us to do.

The Call Keeps Ringing for Mission will you answer. Isaiah 6:8 “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, Whom shall I send? And who will go for us. And I said, Here am I Send me.”

I look forward to working with each of you. Let’s develop a relationship where the door of communication is always open. Important Dates:

• October 18, 2020 - Breast Cancer Walk

• November 3, 2020 - We must Rock our Way, Dance our Way, Pray, Pray and Pray our Way to the Polls Vote, Vote, Vote. Let’s do all we can to help others get to the polls to Vote

• November 21, 2020 - WMS Gala (More Information Forthcoming) God’s Blessings to Each of You, LaTanya Germany Kentucky Conference WMS President

“For I know the plans I have for you”, declares the

Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans

to give you hope and a future” ~ Jeremiah 29:11

October 17, 2020 Praise God from whom ALL blessings flow!!!! I bring you greetings from the Kentucky Conference Young People and Children’s Division. This is a wonderful idea to have a virtual meeting where all Districts can come together on the same day. Blessings to the meeting of the minds for this idea. I would like to say “Congratulations” to our newest Presiding Elder, Reverend Troy Thomas, Louisville District., God bless you and I look forward to working more closely with you. A special “Congratulations” to the newlyweds...Presiding Elder William RT Hale and the new Mrs. First Lady Chaplin Melissa George Hale. What are we to call you??? We love you both!!!! The KY YPD had a wonderful “first ever” virtual Annual Day on September 19, 2020 with the help of some talented tech savvy folk. I was thoroughly pleased with the outcome of that day and was also pleased to see our youth show their “hidden” talent. Please keep us in your prayers as our youth continue to think of new and innovative ways to keep active. It is a great challenge and one we (directors, helpers and youth) plan to meet with anticipation of bringing some great ideas to the table for the rest of this conference year. We are looking forward to continuing our planning for a Virtual “Green/White Tea Party”….ALL I CAN SAY IS “COMING SOON”!!!!! Hopefully a date will be established at our next executive board meeting Sunday, October 18 at 7pm. Attached is our newly elected officers for this new conference year 2020-2021.

Respectfully submitted,

Mary Raglin, KY Conference YPD Director

Reverend Kenneth Golphin & Sister Dianna Golphin: Presiding Elder and First Lady of the Bluegrass District,

Reverend Troy I. Thomas & Reverend Dr. Maxine Thomas: Presiding Elder and First Lady of the Louisville District,

Reverend William R.T. Hale & Reverend Chaplain Melissa W. Hale: Presiding Elder and First Lady of the Commonwealth District.

Greetings to you in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. First, I would like to thank everyone that prayed for me during my illness and hospitalization. There is nothing like prayer!

2020 has been a tumultuous year for all of us. We have still tried to stay in touch and support each other. We ask for continued prayers for our sister, Mrs. Renee' Smith. Flowers were sent to our Supervisor, Dr. Susan Leath, on the death of her mother, and a monetary gift to Rev. Percy Spencer on the death of his son. Please continue to pray for Rev. And Mrs. Fred Hale, and pray for Mrs. Ken Coffey.

Our dues are usually collected at Annual Conference but since we were unable to meet I am asking that spouses send their dues in to our treasurer Brother Sam Green by October 31st. Dues are $25.00 each for the Conference, District and Connectional levels. Total of $75.00. Brother Green's address is 406 Woodridge Drive, Lancaster, KY 40444. Thank you!

KY CONFERENCE MINISTRIES – EVANGELISM

Kentucky Conference Director of Evangelism

To: The Pastors God has appointed Praise the Lord for another opportunity to minister to God’s people at this critical time in history. Each year we have a focus for our evangelistic outreach, and I am excited about the theme for this conference year. Please share with your congregation and invite EVERY member to use this great opportunity to minister to family/friends/neighbors/ and self.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ 2020-2021 Theme: “ SEEKING THE KINGDOM OF GOD” — Matthew 6:33

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.”

This scripture is part of the lengthy-yet profound teaching that Jesus gave along with the portion of scripture we call, “The Sermon On The Mountain.” Matthew chapters 5,6,& 7, contains the teachings that every Christian should adhere to by the grace of God. As we struggle during this corona pandemic, let us be mindful to seek first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, for Jesus promised that everything will be added unto us, if we FIRST seek His kingdom and His righteousness. Be encouraged, and continue to look to the One who is able to do exceeding, abundantly, beyond all we can ask, think or even imagine as we focus on SEEKING THE KINGDOM OF GOD.

Commit this scripture to memory as your focus for the coming conference year-and be blessed.

CHRISTIAN DEBUTANTES AND MASTERS COMMISSION 2020-2021

Report For the Presiding Elders’ Planning Meetings ~ October 17, 2020

We greet Bishop Jeffrey N. Leath; Supervisor Susan Leath, MD; the KY Conference Presiding Elders: Rev, William Hale, Rev, Troy Thomas, and Rev. Kenneth Golphin; and the Clergy, Parents, and Youth of the KY Conference.

This past year we were able to have our sessions and meetings for our Young People because of the coronavirus pandemic fell just as we were beginning in 2020.

Our Youth were also unable to be presented at the 13th District Learning Academy virtually in a 13th District CDMC Ceremony. We do Praise God for the 2020 Learning Academy and what it meant to the adults.

We are speaking with the current Commissioners and Leaders of the KY Conference on an individual basis to solidify total commitment to the KY CDMC.

In addition, we are planning a virtual meeting in early November, before the 2020 Holiday Season, on Saturday, November 7, 2020. This will enable us to get started much earlier in January 2021 after the beginning of the New Year. Then virtual meeting sessions will continue weekly with the Youth until our virtually planned KY CDMC Ceremony, on Sunday, April 11, 2021. We will compile a KY CDMC Guide for the Youth/Parents and a Training Guide for the KY Commissioners/ Leaders.

KY CONFERENCE MINISTRIES – CHURCH SCHOOL

KENTUCKY CONFERENCE CHURCH SCHOOL, 2020-2021

Hello All, Pastors, Superintendents, Church School Workers, Adults and Youth.

It is that time of year again for the Kentucky Conference Church School to plan the year. This time it is 2020-2021.

The Coronavirus hindered our efforts to conduct meetings on the last half of the previous year, so we have turned to virtual meetings. The KY Conference Church School with the KY Conference Christian Education Director and Department will continue to combine our efforts by a weekly church school conference call every Saturday evening at 6pm. We are reaching out to all AMEC churches, other denominations, and church school leaders throughout Kentucky and the US to participate. We currently have teachers and participants in numerous states, and are expanding weekly. Our focus is to educate and empower pew ministers to the needs of people and community which illuminate the call to Christian Discipleship. "Sheep make sheep; and Shepherds nurture, protect and provide for sheep". All our lessons are taught from the "Liberating Faith Studies" quarterly.

The Kentucky Conference Church School will make every effort possible to work with the Commonwealth, Bluegrass and Louisville District Church School Personnel to ensure our milestones and visions are met. We are currently in a stalemate with not knowing our future and direction of the Covid-19 virus, so all work will be done virtually. The Conference Church School is available to assist the Local Church School in any way needed.

Our first virtual zoom will be the KY Church School Retreat 2021. I pray that all will be well and blessed to see another year! We are planning to have the 2021 Retreat on March 20, 2021, Virtually, beginning at 9:00am, registration will be done online (more information forthcoming) and zoom opening at 08:45am. Our virtual tour will be the Black History Gallery. I am asking each local church in the conference to be represented, join and take apart in the Retreat. So come fellowship and take something back to make the local church schools the best that they can be. Come let us share our failures and successes.

THEME SCRIPTURE: And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Roman 8: 28 (NIV).

Also, I need to ensure that my superintendent roster is up to date. Therefore, I need you to respond to the below listed areas:

1. Who is your current superintendent? 2. Please share with me who is currently serving as teachers and their Contact information.

The Kentucky Church School wishes to include the three districts of the conference in the Retreat. I am asking for your utmost support as I serve as the Kentucky Conference superintendent; let us work to make the conference the best that it can be. Start planning your attendance now.

Registration for the Retreat will be determined, if any. I am in need of the number of individuals who will be attending ASAP. Please respond no later than Feb 20, 2021, Hope to see you join.

The dates of our Joint KY Conference Church School Convention are June 1-3, 2021. We plan that meeting virtually as well, and more information will come later.

Superintendents please share this information with your Pastor and Local Church School Personnel. Should you have any additional questions, please contact me at (270) 351-0664 or (270) 307-7259
