Subject Objective 1 SOL/FB Materials Description Assessment Notes History The student will be able to create a President’ s Day Book about George Washingto n, Abraham Lincoln, the Liberty Bell and the Bald Eagle. The student will recognize that history describes events and people of other times and places by a) identifying examples of past events in legends, stories, and historical accounts of Powhatan, Pocahontas, George Washington, Betsy Ross, and Abraham Lincoln; b) identifying the people and events honored by the holidays of Thanksgiving Day; Martin Luther King, Jr., Day; Presidents’ Day; and Independence Day (Fourth of July). President’s Day Book Materials: Page for each student Centers: The students will create the George Washington and Abraham Lincoln pages to the book during centers that week. Throughout the week, the students will be read a story about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. These stories will talk about their lives and why they are so important. They will also be learning about the penny and quarter in math and they will see that these two presidents were honored on the two coins. Tuesday: The students will create the front page for morning work and will finish it during content time. The teacher will have an example for students to look at and will explain how to put the book together step by step. During content, the teacher will read the students a book about President’s Day. brainpop video about American Symbols. The teacher will read the students a book about the Liberty Bell. The teacher will walk the students through the creation of the Liberty Bell page. Thursday: The students will be read a story about the Bald Eagle. We will talk about why it is a symbol of our country and make the connection to the Bald Eagle being on the tails side of the quarter. Then the students will complete the Bald Eagle page. The teacher will walk students through the creation of the page.
