Background. #thesituationrightnow

According to the UN report, nearly half of the entire African youth population is under the age of 18, the population is set to double by 2050 reaching 2.5 billion. Africa is on the brink of a “youth bulge” So what does the future hold for Africa’s youth?

OECD (2015), Youth unemployment rate in Africa indicated at over 50% According to South Africa's small development agency (2013), total entrepreneurship

activities for south Africa's small to medium enterprises of less than 42 months were 9.1% (loosely translated 9.1% of the population in SA are starting businesses) but these are only for businesses who are three and half years old. For enterprises who are 42 months and above, that same index drops down to 2.9%. This depicts that in SA (and African continent at Large), the fatality rate for small business enterprises is high. In Africa the youth have been given so much excitement that they can build their own businesses, Unfortunately after 42 months the business are no-more. What do we do next?

Africa as an investment case not a basket case

Africa can be described as the best-kept secret. Africa, as a whole, has been growing by 5.5 per cent a year for the past decade and has been sustainable. ‘The hopeless Continent’ has become the next investment frontier.

The continent has become the second most attractive investment destination in the world – ranking just behind North America — as investors are looking beyond the more established markets of South Africa, Nigeria and Kenya. Increased investment and industrialization will help to unlock the potential for job creation and poverty reduction in African countries.

market of billions of people, including a growing middle class Over the past ten years, the general trend across African governance is positive. We

have seen a marked decline in conflicts, sustained economic development, and significant gains in Human Development. We are more peaceful, prosperous, healthy and well-educated than at the turn of the millennium.
