Dear Friends, I love it when the church calendar runs into the 'world's' calendar and things make sense in kind of a cool way. And it is happening this month. Most of know and associate February 14 with Valentines day...that wonderful day of cards and candy. But this year February 14 is also Ash Wednesday, the day we set aside as the beginning of Lent, the 40 days of preparation for coming death and resurrection of Jesus. Growing up Catholic, I came to love Ash Wednesday. Early in the morning, I would go to Mass at Christ the KIng Catholic church, walk up front, and have the smudge of ashes put on my forehead. Even at an early age, there was something special about that moment, something that helped me feel a bit closer to God, closer to what Jesus was doing to me. Even though I didn't understand exactly what was going on when the priest put the ashes on my head, there was something special happening. With this one moment, I had the feeling that God was doing something special in my life...it wasn't just a bit of ashes, it was an act of love. And with these two days happening together, I can think of few things better than coming to worship on Feb. 14 to celebrate God's amazing love for us as the church celebrates Ash Wednesday. It is for kids and adults, so come and join us for a time of worship, of reflection, of ashes. Service will be at 7 pm in the sanctuary. I hope to see you then. Dear Friends,

I love it when the church calendar runs into

the 'world's' calendar and things make sense

in kind of a cool way. And it is happening this month.

Most of know and associate February 14 with

Valentines day...that wonderful day of cards and

candy. But this year February 14 is also Ash

Wednesday, the day we set aside as the beginning of

Lent, the 40 days of preparation for coming death and

resurrection of Jesus. Growing up Catholic, I came to

love Ash Wednesday. Early in the morning, I would go

to Mass at Christ the KIng Catholic church, walk up

front, and have the smudge of ashes put on my

forehead. Even at an early age, there was something

special about that moment, something that helped me

feel a bit closer to God, closer to what Jesus was

doing to me. Even though I didn't understand exactly what was going on

when the priest put the ashes on my head, there was something special

happening. With this one moment, I had the feeling that God was doing

something special in my life...it wasn't just a bit of ashes, it was an act of

love. And with these two days happening together, I can think of few

things better than coming to worship on Feb. 14 to celebrate God's

amazing love for us as the church celebrates Ash Wednesday. It is for

kids and adults, so come and join us for a time of worship, of reflection,

of ashes. Service will be at 7 pm in the sanctuary. I hope to see you

then.

Dear Friends of FPC,

As many of you know by now I have delayed my retirement date to sometime in August due to Terry’s retirement in May. We just felt like too much change at once would be difficult. It also made sense to have a seasoned employee here when the interim be-gins. This church is very important in my life so I had to do what was right for all parties involved. My prayer is that this will make the transition a bit easier. Now on to the busyness of the Christian Education ministry. As you should know by now the “Souper Bowl of Caring” lunch is February 4 right after church. Lunch will be a bit earlier than usual but we can deal with that! This way you’ll be plenty hungry at your Super Bowl parties. Go Eagles! If you have not made a reservation, please either email the church or call. We need to have an accurate account of how many tables to set up. If you are bringing a soup be sure to give us the full name so we can prepare a menu board. Just like last year, we hope to raise $1,000 to put toward the expenses for VBS in July. And yes, I will be doing that again! The next Sunday, February 11, is BIG HUG SUNDAY! Lots of beautiful heart-shaped cookies will be given in love to everyone present and mailed off to our wonderful college kids. We will be decorating/frosting them on Saturday morning, 10 AM, in Fellowship Hall so bring your cookies up to church on Friday or Saturday morning. This is always such a fun activity for the kids. Decorating is for grades one thru high school. We need lots of help! We are continuing with the DIGIN curriculum with our children. They are learning some of the great stories of the Old Testament. Our youth have started doing something a little different; they are having topical discussions that are relevant in their world with some biblical passages to reinforce the topic. We would love for our junior and senior high kids to be more active in this class. There is a lot that can be gleaned for everyday living with one another. The adults have been studying Moses and how his story is our story; how God uses people to be his messenger. How we are all part of God’s story. It’s been very interesting. On February 18, the first Sunday of Lent this class will begin a study on “Who Is Jesus? What a Difference a Lens Makes.” This class is now meeting in the chapel which is so much more intimate than the setting in Fellowship Hall. Please come and join us! We kicked off our parents’ group in January with a great turn out considering that we had a few inches of snow with a snowy driveway! (continued next page)

(continued from previous page) The group had dinner together in the chapel, we talked about what a family blessing is for children and then it just took off on its own with lots of laughter and fellowship. The group came up with their own name, TPC, Tired Parent’s Club or Tired People’s Club, either works! TPC will be meeting on the THIRD MONDAY of each month at 6 PM in the chapel. The meal will be pizza, salad and dessert. Pack a brown bag meal for your children and bring your own beverage. This will make things so easy for everyone involved. The group is self-directed, no leader, just whatever comes up to talk about! If you weren’t able to attend be sure and come in February. It will be fun, promise!

Our children’s choir will be singing in church in April and again in March. They sure do a great job for being so young. Jim and I just love it! In closing I would just ask that you pray for Marsha and Terry as they embark on this new journey of retirement together, that you pray for Marsha’s health and healing, and that you pray without ceasing for this faith community as we transition. It will be hard at times but we must stay focused and look forward to the future of this church serving Fort Thomas and the world beyond its doors. This is my prayer each day. May God bless each of you,

Peggy

SERVICE OF ASHES

FEBRUARY 14TH 7PM

We are a Christian body dedicated to showing god’s love, sharing the gospel of jesus Christ and serving the needs of others.

Online Giving

Our church is very excited to offer online giving beginning in the next few

months. It is an easy and convenient way to give your tithes and offerings using a debit or credit card or electronic funds transfer.

The service, which is hosted by the Presbyterian Foundation, will be easily accessed through the church website. You can rest easy knowing that the transaction is safe and secure, and your gift will be available to our ministry

immediately, with no waiting periods.

Online giving offers benefits both for you and for the church:

You can save a trip to the ATM on Sunday morning and avoid forgetting your checkbook or having to quickly fill out your check to make your gift.

You can also set up recurring donations to continue giving faithfully even on weeks you are not able to attend services.

The church benefits from a more steady and reliable flow of gifts.

Work to process checks and cash gifts is reduced when gifts are made online instead.

Be on the outlook for training sessions to help you learn to give online. It is quite easy! As we continue to grow the culture of stewardship and generosity in our church, we will include online giving as an important tool.

Your is Christ, Stewardship Committee
