Prendergast Vale College is a genuinely ‘all-through’ school. Pupils in the primary phase have access to outstanding specialist facilities, and are taught by experts in their fields. Their transition from primary to secondary education is managed seamlessly.

Equally, pupils in the secondary phase take great pride in supporting and guiding younger pupils through regular, structured opportunities to act as mentors. Pupils are encouraged to apply for a position as a College prefect, and if selected, take pride in supporting their peers and the staff in the smooth running of College life.

An All-Through College

Message from the Executive Headteacher

Welcome to Prendergast Vale College.

I am delighted that you have shown an interest in our college community. We are

committed to achieving academic excellence within a culture of strong pastoral care.

Prendergast Vale College offers expert teaching and exceptional facilities within a

community which is truly “forever learning”. We set high standards for all our pupils

and we expect them to work hard, play hard and flourish.

Our federation links to the other Prendergast Colleges provides further opportunities

to enrich our pupils’ learning and to access outstanding sixth form provision.

I hope that you will be able to visit our school and experience what it means to have

and to enjoy a “Prendergast” education.

Message from the HeadteacherWe are building a family at Prendergast Vale with academic excellence

at the heart of everything we do. We are a brand new Prendergast

school catering for both boys and girls of all ages from three to 18,

when our students will leave our federated sixth form. Our longer

school day allows us to build on our broad academic curriculum to

include an extra curricular offer that enables every Year 7 student to

choose from over 30 different courses of study. These cover everything

from philosophy to dance, art history to yoga or community based

volunteering to investing in shares. We are a very special community,

as our school motto says ‘in perpetuum discimus’ - we are forever

learning, and we hope that you will consider the possibility of your child

continuing their learning in our family.

Our youngest pupils learn through play in exceptionally well-appointed spaces, including superb outdoor classrooms.

Every pupil at Prendergast Vale has a named adult with primary responsibility for supporting their pastoral well-being and for monitoring their academic progress. Class teachers in the primary phase, and house tutors in the secondary, form and maintain close links with families to ensure that all pupils realise their potential. Parents have regular access to their child’s class teacher or tutor, whether at the school gate in the primary section or through regular electronic and telephone contact in the secondary section. Secondary

students are guaranteed a one on one meeting with their house tutor once a fortnight to identify strengths weaknesses and areas for development whether these are academic or personal. Parents are then contacted with an update on the progress of their child.

Outstanding Pastoral Support

An outstanding curriculum

The Prendergast Vale curriculum is designed to prepare learners for the challenges of the twenty-first century knowledge economy, fostering the skills of independence and enquiry from an early age.

Our youngest pupils learn through play in exceptionally well-appointed spaces, including superb outdoor classrooms. A focus on skills in literacy and numeracy begins early, and younger pupils have a dedicated library in their own building. Throughout the primary phase, teachers

ensure a broad and balanced curriculum and many pupils receive specialist subject teaching in Physical Education and Music. Teachers make use of excellent specialised facilities, such as science laboratories, to enthuse pupils and enhance their learning.

As pupils progress through the primary phase, teachers develop their independence as well as their key skills. Older pupils in the primary phase make use of the superb school library, and continue to access outstanding specialist facilities.

When they reach the secondary phase, pupils continue to study a broad and balanced core curriculum and their progress is monitored closely by their subject teachers and their House tutor. In addition, all pupils in the secondary phase choose from a wide range of options. These subjects are delivered as part of the College day, both by colleagues who wish to share their passions and expertise, and by expert external providers.
