worship by
opening your heart,
lowering your voice

PRELUDE

Welcome! ¡ Bienvenido
CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS
P: The one who was promised, and who
came long ago, comes again to us this day
and calls us to begin this time of worship by
freeing ourselves with confession and the
promise of a new beginning.
--Silence for Reflection--
CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS
P: God of Hope and Promise:
C: Even in the midst of this season of
goodwill, there is much to confess. Along
with the holiday cheer, stress and anxiety
rule our lives. The Advent and Christmas
seasons pass us by as we focus instead
on tasks, shopping lists, and our litany of
other concerns and worries.
CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS
C: This is a season that attempts to give
us reason to hope for the future, whatever
our troubles in the present. Forgive our
lack of faith and trust in your promised
future. Unlike Mary, we fail to hope and
work toward a reordered world—where
the lowly can be lifted up and the hungry
are filled with good things.
CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS
C: Help us adjust our Christmas priorities,
that we might join with you, O God, in
preparing a world that welcomes the one
who brings us peace. In the name of the
Savior who is coming. Amen.
P: The prophet Micah foretold the coming of
a Messiah to rescue God’s people from their
enemies. Matthew tells us the birth of a
Savior, whose name Jesus means God
Saves. Hear the words of hope for this
Advent season. Jesus is coming soon, with
the same saving power. In his name your
sins are forgiven!
C: Amen! Thanks be to God!

GREETING
A: All through this season of Advent, we
have waited, watched, and wondered.
Today we make room for hope as well.
C: We hope in the future, just as Micah
and Mary did.
A:Today we will hear the story of surprising
commitment.
C: We have the example of Mary’s hope
and of God's wonderful faith.
GREETING
A: Today we are challenged to put our faith
in all that God can do.
C: Open our hearts, Lord, that we may
find hope and be ready for your
coming.
PRAYER OF THE DAY
A: Holy God,
C: your prophet Micah foretold with
faith that a new ruler would come
from Bethlehem and today we
celebrate the fulfillment of your
promise, and the hope that Jesus
brought to Mary and to us. Your
servant Mary proclaimed with faith
her confidence that her Son would
PRAYER OF THE DAY
C: change the order of things and
bring your reign of justice to the
world. Fill us with the hope of your
prophet Micah and of your servant
Mary. Make us bold enough to
proclaim with faith—
the coming of your kingdom,
the coming of your justice,
the coming of your peace.
PRAYER OF THE DAY
C: May we sing out the good news of
your salvation, trusting that you will
act to fulfill our hopes. We pray in the
name of the one who was and is
promised, Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
LIGHTING THE ADVENT WREATH
Mary, faced with an incomprehensible
burden and gift, and in faith and hope
she sang out about things a reversal of
things that no one in their right mind
would believe could happen. That is the
power of faith and hope.. The prophet
Micah spoke of a future for God’s
people, and of a future king, again
impossible to imagine in light of the
catastrophe they were facing.
LIGHTING THE ADVENT WREATH
We too hope in a future that will bring us
out of the division and injustice and
anxieties and threats of the present. We
hope!
We light these candles, the candle of
waiting, of watching, of wonder and of
hope, as we await the fulfillment of all
that God has promised. Come Lord
Jesus!

A: In faith and hope,
C: Let us pray to the Lord.
SHARING OF THE PEACECOMPARTIENDO LA PAZ
A time to greet each other with God’s peace.
P: The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you.C: And also with you.
WE GATHER THE OFFERING
You can also give your offering digitally
through Zelle: [email protected]
Your offering contribution enables us to support and continue the many ministries of Amazing Grace.
Thank you for your offering of worship.
OFFERING PRAYER
P: Saving God:
C: When called to bear God’s Son, Mary,
in faith and hope offered herself
as God’s servant, and then sang a song
celebrating her selection to help bring
God’s reign on earth. We have been
chosen to continue to build up the
kingdom of God in this place, so we, too,
have reason to celebrate.
OFFERING PRAYER
C: Having praised God through song and
scripture, let us now offer our tangible
signs of gratitude, confident that God’s
promises will be fulfilled through the
ministries supported by our gifts. In the
name of the Christ who is coming. Amen.
P: O come, Emanuel, into our longing
hearts.
C: We lift our hearts to you.
P: Gather us around your table Lord.
C: We come in expectation and hope.
TABLE PRAYER
P: We heard from the prophets of God’s new
straight path in the desert and of the hoped
for shepherd to feed his flock. We heard
from John the Baptist of one coming after
him, one who will baptize with Holy Spirit.
We hear from Mary today about the hope of
one who is coming to bring a reversal of the
kingdoms of this world, and bring God’s
kingdom of justice for all who have been
denied what is right.
TABLE PRAYER
P: As we open our hearts to this coming,
and hope for what it might mean for us, we
can’t help but remember the rest of the
story. Even as we celebrate Jesus’ birth, we
remember his life, his teachings and
healings and compassion. Even as we
remember the beginning, we know well of
Jesus’ suffering and death and Resurrection.
TABLE PRAYER
P: We remember how, in the night in which
he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread,
and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his
disciples, saying: “Take and eat; this is my
body, given for you. Do this for the
remembrance of me.”
TABLE PRAYER
P: Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave
thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying:
“This cup is the new covenant in my blood,
shed for you and for all people for the
forgiveness of sin. Do this for the
remembrance of me.”
TABLE PRAYER
P: May we receive Jesus in this bread and
wine as he came long ago and comes to us
still in the power of the Holy Spirit. He is
Emmanuel, God with us, in the bread and
the cup! AMEN.
TABLE PRAYER
THE LORD’S PRAYER
P: In the language of your heart, let us pray the prayer that Jesus taught us:
C: Our father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
PADRE NUESTRO
P: En el idioma de tu corazón, rezamos la oración que Jesús nos enseñó:
C: Padre nuestro, que estás en el cielo, santificado sea tu nombre. Hágase tu voluntad en la tierra como en el cielo.
THE LORD’S PRAYER
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
PADRE NUESTRO
Danos hoy nuestro pan de cada dia. Perdona nuestras ofensas como también nosotros perdonamos a los que nos ofenden.
THE LORD’S PRAYER PADRE NUESTRO
No nos dejes caer en tentacion y libranos del mal. Porque tuyo es el reino, tuyo es el poder y tuya es la gloria, ahora y siempre, amen.
And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
INVITATION TO COMMUNION
P: The God who became the incarnate
Word and lived among us, has become
Emmanuel—God with us once again in the
bread and wine of this meal. Come, eat,
drink and feed on Christ in your hearts with
faith, hope and thanksgiving.
THE MEAL
LAMB OF GOD
POST COMMUNION PRAYER
P: Faithful God,
C: you chose Mary, full of grace,
to be the mother of our Savior, Jesus
Christ. He came to us as one of us to
bring us hope of a future where all will
have justice and a seat at the table. You
have filled us with your grace also in this
holy meal. May we understand your
ways, rejoice in your salvation,
and embrace your will; through Jesus
