NEW BOOKS Somewhere Safe with Somebody Good is the new Mitford novel by Jan Karon. Million of fans will applaud the chance to spend time in the often hectic years of retirement for Lord’s Chapel, Father Tim Kavanagh and his wife Cynthia, return to Mitford from a so-called pleasure trip to the land of his Irish ancestors. Revolution in World Missions by K.P. Yohannan is a National Bestseller. In this exciting and fast-moving narrative, the author shares how God brought him from his remote Indian village to become the founder of Gospel for Asia. Jennifer by Dee Henderson, in this “story behind the story” of Dee Henderson’s popular O’Malley series, Dr. Jennifer O’Malley meets the man who will love her for a lifetime.. She’s falling in love with Jesus too, and knows God is good. But that faith is about to be tested, and in a way she didn't expect. The results will soon transform her entire family.

Last night as we were leaving church, we were invited to get a piece of cake from the choir room. We assumed it was someone’s birthday, so we asked who was celebrating a birthday. To our surprise it was not a celebration of anyone’s birthday, but of Bro. Tom’s five-year anniversary of his liver transplant. I declined the cake, but jokingly asked if we needed to sing Happy Birthday to his liver. I laughed going out the door because I am so glad to be a part of a church family that knows how to celebrate life.

I hope you, too, are glad to be a part of such a church family. Two years ago this month God called us here to be a part of the Hillcrest family and we are still rejoicing in His calling. We rejoice because of what the Lord is doing in this place. Souls are being saved and lives are being changed every week by the gospel of Jesus Christ. This does not mean we are a people with no issues, it means we are a people whose God reigns over such issues.

Listen to the words of David from Psalm 18. He wrote, “I will love You, O Lord, my strength. The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in who I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies” (v.1-3). Let me encourage you to praise the Lord for what He is doing, not just during church on Sunday, but what He is doing during the week. The world needs to see and hear God’s people rejoicing! Take February and keep a journal on your kitchen table of a list of the things you see God do this month. You just might discover you have been overlooking His greatness far too long.

In Christ,

Hello Church! In the student ministry world throughout the month of February we are focusing on the statement, "I Love My Church!" With so many ideas and hijacked meanings of this word love, we also want to redeem what it means to love. Love is in no way selfish! It is after the good of another. In the area of Church let us be honest. Do we live with the mentality of, "What is the church doing for me?" Do we live with the mentality of, "What am I doing for the Church?" Please understand this word Church. It is not about Hillcrest. It is about The Church. Hillcrest is simply a portion of that, and none the less The Church. We are allowed to band together as followers of Jesus at this location and with everything we can open up opportunities for local and foreign to hear about the Gospel of Jesus! For me I know I have to continually remind myself that I am not the point. It is not all about me even though I try to make it about me often. I think after a long day of counseling and life in student ministry when I get home it should be about me. I get home and my kids are running around crazy and my wife has that look on her face. I have a decision to make: Am I the point or not? If I am not the point I easily make others the point and serve! If you are a follower of Jesus through surrendering your life to Him then you are part of the Church. You have been invited to co-labor for His Kingdom not co-star. We are not the point! Love God and love others. The truth is Jesus is better! His ways need to be known! I hope that you will intentionally love God's Church starting by reading these verses: Matthew 9:36-38 36 When He saw the crowds, He felt compassion for them, because they were weary and worn out, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few. 38 Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.” Its time to get to work! Don't be guilty of just attending a church's service. Be the Church! We have message and there is a harvest that is in need of hearing it! Let's go and make disciples! (If you long to work, but lack the direction as to what to do please just ask, but be careful who you ask... it could be hazardous! Ha! ) Looking forward... Cody Turner Pastor of Student Ministries

THANK YOU!

This is what it is all about!

Thank you to everyone who participated in our annual coat drive. We were able to provide coats to the Salvation Army, Impact Ministries, Trilogy, Coffee Connection, and children at Hillcrest. We received approximately 150 coats. - Pansy Amerson The family of Bill Pollock would like to thank you for the wonderful way you have ministered to us during his recent illness and passing away. Your prayers, support, phone calls, texts, cards, visits, food, flower arrangements and deeds of kindness have been appreciated more than words can begin to adequately express. Thanks to everyone who helped prepare the food that was served to the family after his funeral. A very special thanks to Bro .Joe and Bro. Greg for the comforting and well chosen words spoken at the funeral and cemetery. We will treasure then forever. We are blessed to be a part of such a loving, caring, and generous family as Hillcrest. With Grateful Hearts, Anna, Rick, Charlotte, Keith, and Sherry Pollock
