A modern-daycontrol centerMitsubishi’s E1000 series of HMIs offeroperator display solutions from small easytext displays to large multi-colour, high res-olution, graphic displays with touch screen. These practical operator terminals canoften replace an entire control console. They enable an operator to manage and ifneed be intervene in the application byvery easily changing the process dataparameters. The units in the E1000 seriesperfectly match the MELSEC range of con-trollers and are very simple to operate.

The E1000 series operator terminals pro-vide a huge leap forward in display tech-nology, as ergonomics and ease of usewere central to the new series design. TheE1000 proves again how open HMI tech-nology can be the key to integrated auto-mation.

E1000 – Open HMI TechnologyFeatures thatusers valueThe E1000 units have a long history of pio-neering HMI design. Over many yearsdevelopment and the accumulated experi-ence of thousands of users has sharpenedthese HMIs to become the leading edgeproducts many users are now familiar with.Features that have remained the keystoneof this success include:

 Multi-language support

All the E1000 units support multi-languageapplications created within the program-ming software. These applications allowthe operators to select the user interfacelanguage they wish to use as Unicode issupported.

 Dual driver support

All E series operator terminals can accesstwo different systems simultaneously act-ing as a protocol converter or as an infor-mation gateway. This has enabled manyusers to create systems that span manythird party automation products that wouldnot normally be possible.

E1000 is designed to give a window into the manufacturing process.

This functionality is supported both on thestandard RS232C and RS422 ports and viathe extended Profibus/DP and Ethernetinterfaces. For example, you can write datawords from a PLC directly into the parame-ter settings of a frequency inverter.

In addition, by using E1000 utilities andtools, remote “viewing” of the locally dis-played screen is also possible across anintranet or internet connection makingsure you know exactly what is going on at amachine level.

High performancedesignBy combining the latest Intel XScale RISCprocessor with 32 MB of Strataflash and64 MB RAM, the E1000 not only offers highperformance while running WindowsCE.NET but also security and “peace ofmind“.

With this powerful combination of technol-ogy valuable production data and machineoperational information is protected evenif a power failure occurs during a file writeprocess.

Data managementData storage and sharing are importantfunctions of the manufacturing processand operator terminals are quickly becom-ing the gateway to that data. The E1000series makes access to data easier andmore flexible than ever before. Users canchoose between the use of:

Combined Ethernet – internet connec-tivity for factory wide or global accessto data.

Direct connection to a modem for sim-ple remote telemetry solution(GSM/GPRS/PSTN) where a system maybe installed at an inaccessible location.

A new external CF data card interfaceon the front of the E1000 also meansdata can be “taken” away on a remov-able data card for safe/permanent stor-age and processing.

Local printing directly from the HMIdisplay is also possible where a localhard copy of processed data isrequired.

High performance in the most demanding applications

Visualisation and productivity /// Visualisation and productivity /// Automation solutions /// Automation solutions /// Automation solutions /// Automation solutions /// Automation

The use of HMI technology has beenincreasing as manufacturers increasinglydemand information in realtime. Theboundries between “shop floor” data andbusiness operation/process data is fastbecoming blurred and places higherdemands on visualisation and data pro-cessing tools to span the wide range of“new” applications.

New challengesUsing visualisation tools to support main-tenance has never been high on theagenda of machine and process engineers, but if system downtime is considered asone of the most costly problems manufac-turers face, then why not? HMI screen’s canbe configured to easily report on all of thecritical control aspects of a system aidingefficient problem diagnosis.

Visualisationand productivity

In fact some HMIs have the ability to reporterrors remotely, even contacting the main-tenance team before the line operators areaware there is a problem. The potential ofvisualisation tools to improve process“uptime” is enormous.

The Business CycleFast data retrieval, greater transparencyrequire simplier and more effiecient con-trol architectures. Because of this thedemand for high reliability SCADA and PCbased solutions is critical especially whenfeeding data in to a businesses central MESand ERP systems. But even now it is possi-ble to see a future trend for embedingdirect MES functionality in to PLC stationsand high function HMIs. This can providehuge gains for the manufacturer, i.e.;reducing system complexity by removing alayer of intermedary PCs; increased datasecurity by providing quicker respose andindustrialised hardware; localised controlpoints giving increased access to vital infor-mation.

e-F@ctoryAs a manufacturer and supplier of automa-tion products Mitsubishi Electric has longrecognised these key issues and has devel-oped solutions for its own complex pro-duction needs. This has resulted in manyinnovations such as GOT displays that have“built in” maintetance screens as well as theability to review and monitor PLC pro-grams. Other advances include MES inter-faces for direct connection of PLC and HMItechnology to MES SQL databases.

Mitsubishi’s Vision1000 visualisation solu-tions are a clear part of today’s e-F@ctoryhelping manufacturers increase productiv-ity in a scalable and reliable way.

HMI technology can easily consolidate information at one point.

HMI and networks

Network support, communication betweendevices and data exchange are all standardfeatures in today’s factory automation sys-tems. The HMI control units and processvisualisation software provide full supportfor the commonest standard networks.

The control units are normally connected tothe RS422 or RS232 port.

If you require a standard open network youcan choose between PROFIBUS/DP, CC-Linkand Ethernet TCP/IP.

Data communications over longer dis-tances via modem are also possible – thismeans you can monitor and edit your con-figuration, programs and data from thecomfort of your desk.

The proprietary operatingsystem as well as thecompletely new developedhardware result in an outstand-ing performance and quality ofthe GT15 operator terminals. The user can choose betweenseveral fast project up- anddownload options; high-speedserial connection with 115kBaud, USB or project transfervia CF-card is available.

In addition, the GT15 offerEthernet project transfer via theoptional Ethernet interfaceGT15-J71E71-100.

MELSEC PLCs can easily beprogrammed using the frontUSB port with integratedTransparent Mode, so updateson PLCs, servo amplifiers, inverters and GOT terminalscan be accomplished withoutopening the cabinet.

The file system of the CF card isPC compatible. Projects andoperating system componentscan be downloaded to the CFcard. The GT15 can load the filesfrom the CF card. This is acrucial advantage for manufac-turers of serial machines.

In terms of networks, the GT15are especially powerful withoptions for MELSECNET/10/H,CC-Link (IE) and Ethernet as wellas the four-driver-concept (4drivers at the same time and thepossibility of data exchange viagateway between the drivers aswell as third party manufactur-ers).

By using an MES option card theGT15 are able to communicatedirect with Windows databaseswithout needing a Gateway-PC.

The Video modelsGT1585V-STBD andGT1575V-STBD additionallysupport video/RGB input tomonitor images from PC's,cameras and vision sensorsdirectly on the GOT.

All GT15 operator terminalslisted on this page are availableas AC type ( models*) or as DCtype ( models).

The new all-in-one models ofthe GT16 series are packed withall the solutions to meet theneeds of customers. This leadsGT16 terminals to become fullcomponents of system controlmanagement.

Many of the well-known usefulfunctions are already integrated,e.g.avarietyofnetworkconnec-tionssuchasEthernetandRS422/RS485 beside the generouslymeasured project and datamemory of 15 MB (with CF cardexpandable up to 57 MB max.).

Using separate expansions unitsit is very easy to upgrade theGT16 with special functions oradditional interfaces. Thehigh-speed USB ports on thefront panel allow the user tosave and restore project dataand PLC programs via standardUSB memory sticks. This is veryhelpful if the PLC CPU needs tobe exchanged. The PLC programcan be backuped and restoredplus saving of historical informa-tion (e.g. trends, alarms) usingthe USB port of the GT16.

The high-resolution TFT monitorshows pictures, windows, dia-grams and touchkeys in highestquality and up to 65536 colours. All screens can be created indi-vidually with the GT Designer 2software, installed on a standardPC. Every item can be movedfreely on the whole monitor. This makes using easier even forcomplex applications.

Up to four CCD cameras can beconnected, and with an installedmultimedia option card it is pos-sible to play prerecorded trou-

bleshooting videos or to recordand analyze event-driven videos.

The build-in Self-diagnosis func-tion recognizes problems andplays an instruction video orshows helpful hints. In perfectinteraction with the powerful iQplatform this function helps todecrease downtimes.

Using an MES option card GT16operator terminals cancommunicate directly withWindows databases without theneed of a gateway PC.

/// OPERATOR TERMINALS E SERIES

The E Series - State-of-the-Art Operation and Process Design!

The E series operator terminals provide aunique concept of flexible display blocks. The dialog screen is displayed quickly andcan be adopted to suit the users needs.

These operator terminals in many cases arecapable of replacing a complete controlconsole.

They permit simple alteration of processdata and thus influence the particularapplication.

The units in the E series are perfectlymatched to the range of MELSEC controllersand yet easy to operate.

The features include user-definable text, control parameter and data editing, alarmhandling, recipes and menu operation.

Programming is performed with anMS-Windows® compatible PC running theE-Designer software package.

“Dialog blocks” consisting of text and/orgraphics form the basis of all E applications.Via the object-orientated programming sys-tem, each dialog block displays all signalsand values allocated to the object in digitaland analog form.

The individual dialog blocks that makeup a E application form a hierarchical treestructure with the needed functionassigned to each dialog block. Thus, theyare adopted to the machine and processfunctions. The result is a clear operatorguidance with a clear information flow andclear text messages in case of an error.

Text and graphic blocks return static ordynamic information to the operator.

Text blocks display numeric values and text. The display supports scrolling, so the size oftext blocks is not limited by the number oflines on the screen.

The blocks can be output to a printer underPLC control.

The graphics block size is limited by thedisplay which has a resolution of240x64 pixel up to 1024x768 pixel.

Static objects for example, can be displayedin different font sizes or with predefinedgraphic objects.

Dynamic objects are predefined as well foreasier application development and can bescaled to any size.

In addition to these predefined objectsself-created bitmap graphics can beimported and managed in libraries.

Communications

All E series control units are fitted with anRS422 and an RS232 interface for connec-tion to the PLC.

This second port enables the unit to be runin transparent mode.

This means that the E series is capable ofcommunicating simultaneously with boththe connected PLC system and a PC (via theMX4 HMI or GX IEC Developer software).

The E units can also be linked to the PC viamodem.

Another communications option is theno-protocol mode for the connection ofserial peripheral devices (e.g. bar-codereaders).

Printer, mouse, keyboard or a USB memorystick can be connected to an E1000 controlunit via the integrated USB host port.

Networking

All E1000 operator terminals feature anintegrated Ethernet adapter to realize anEthernet network.

Within this network up to 30 stations can beconnected to one PLC in a segment.

The connection to open networks can beestablished through an optional interfacefor PROFIBUS/DP with a transfer rate of upto 12 Mbit.

 Visualization Software MX4 HMI

MX4 HMI

MX4 HMI is a reduced version of MX4 SCADA. It includes many of the functions ofMX4 SCADA, but has been designed for standalone HMI applications.

The main features are:

A large number of I/O points ranging from 100 to a maximum of 600, with the ability toconnect to three different types of drivers.

It is a scalable solution that can be upgraded from a HMI to a SCADA solution and thenhave additional upward connectivity to business systems.

Basic functions like alarms, trend analysis and reports have been set-up and areready-to-use, saving you time and the expertise needed to program them.

The use of super genies enables you to save repetitive machinery processes, and repli-cate the process by a click of a button. This saves time and the cost of skilled labour, al-lowing a complex task to be performed much more simply.

SOFTWARE AND PROGRAMMING ///

GT Works (GT SoftGOT1000 and GT Designer)

A major benefit of GT SoftGOT1000 is that visualisation screens can be created independ-ently of their final target platform, i. e. a hardware platform such as GOT1000 or a PC basedplatform such as GT SoftGOT1000. This is a PC based HMI module within GTWorks. A furtherbenefit of GT SoftGOT1000 is that it inherits the advanced simulation features of GTWorks. Itcan be simulated in a stand-alone configuration or in conjunction with GX Simulator, linkingboth PLC and HMI simulation code for a true integrated approach.

Platform independent, screens created can be used for software-based HMIs or hard-ware based GOT HMIs.

Remote monitoring and operation by intranet LAN is possible. E-mail support for alarms Recording of historical Data in user-friendly formats Communication with MELSEC PLCs via serial communication, USB (to System Q port),

CC-Link IE PC card or Ethernet possible Windows and Microsoft programs can be accessed from within GT SoftGOT1000.

GT Designer

As part of GTWorks, GT Designer is a drawing program designed to create HMI screens for allGOT series. A user-friendly Windows environment provides the user with a simple andrecognisable interface, reducing the time of their learning curve and the training costs asso-ciated with it. The package consists of:

An extensive picture and graphics library editor that enables you to modify thegraphics to meet your exact specifications.

A tree format of the project gives you an overview of the structure of the project. Thisgives you the opportunity to navigate through your project and add, delete or moveany programs or functions, creating a more logical flow to your menu structure.

The combination of GT Simulator andGX Simulator allows you to test boththe HMI and PLC coding offline, on yourPC without the need to connect tophysical hardware.

Configuration of up to ten languages inthe application, easy to edit by usingthe open Excel format
