GREAT TIPS FOR HEALTHY KIDS TIP 31 SNACK FOODS CAN BE HEALTHY Kids need to replenish their energy during the day. While meals provide the main nutrition, they need ‘fuel stops’ to keep them going. Packets of chips and fried foods are okay once in a blue moon, but for everyday snacking, make a habit of keeping fresh, healthy foods in the house.

What you can do NOW Get the kids to help you cut up celery sticks, carrot sticks and capsicum slices to have handy as

snacks. Cut veggies just before eating and serve a yoghurt-based dip with vegetables.

Good Idea!

Ideas for healthy snacks include: fresh fruit; vegetables with dip or hummus; a cob of corn; a fruit smoothie; yoghurt; rice crackers; a hard-boiled egg; a sandwich with egg or cheese; dried fruits; or unbuttered and unsalted popcorn.

Essential Fats Fat is an essential part of every diet, however, some fats are better

for you than others. It has been proven that too much saturated fat is linked to

heart disease and cancer. Omega-3, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats

(essential) can reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood and are beneficial to

the heart. Follow this guide and enjoy the benefits of consuming the ‘right’ fats. Remember

that all fats are high in energy (kilojoules) and should only be consumed in small amounts.

School will be in the conference room after assembly on a date to be

confirmed. All are most welcome to attend.

Contacting the Parents’ & Friends of California Gully Primary

School The Parents’ & Friends of California Gully Primary School would love to hear from you.

If you have any ideas that you would like to share with them please email them at

[email protected].

Thank you to all families who support the Parents’ & Friends of California Gully Primary

School.

We have had a mixture of activities this week. Some of the older students have been decorating tubs with beads and pompoms, on Monday we made tacos for our afternoon

snack, and we have had a variety of ballgames on the area outside the OSHC room. Dress-ups have been popular, and playing families. A game of tiggy was held involving everyone, and we saw some fantastic co-operation between children, and also teamwork. Again, we have had some

nasty weather, but we have managed to find somewhere in the grounds where we could play safely outside.

Have a great week.

Sue

WANT TO GET RID OF YOUR PLASTIC GROCERY BAGS??? Do you have lots of plastic grocery bags taking up valuable storage space in your home? A member of our school community is collecting plastic grocery bags to make sleeping mats for the homeless. If you have excess plastic grocery bags (I’m sure many of us do) they can be brought to the school office for collection to make more sleeping mats. Not only are we providing a soft place for a homeless person to sleep—we are also recycling those unwanted plastic grocery bags!!
