TRAY
SIEVE TRAY
➢ Advantages:
• Good vapor/liquid contact efficiency
• Low/moderate pressure drop
• Less expensive
• Easy maintenance
➢ Disadvantages:
• Narrow operating range
• High vapor escaping momentum
that can cause liquid entrainment
• No protection for liquid weeping
• Possible fouling
BUBBLE CAP TRAY
➢ Advantages:
• Liquid tight construction
• Suitable for low liquid rate service
• Fouling resistance
• Wide operating range
➢ Disadvantages:
• Poor vapor/liquid contact efficiency
• Moderate/high pressure drop
• Most expensive type
• More tray weights
VALVE TRAY
➢ Advantages:
• Good vapor/liquid contact efficiency
• Minimized liquid weeping
• Moderate pressure drop
• Most common tray type for new
column
➢ Disadvantages:
• Possible fouling
• Possible valve displacement
• Difficult maintenance for valves

TRAY
• Number of tray pass is normally increased depending on liquid load.
• Vapor/Liquid ratio per each tray panel shall be carefully checked for
3 pass above to maintain good tray efficiency without vapor/liquid
maldistribution issue.

Mesh Type Mist Eliminator PT-Mesh Mist Eliminator is commonly referred to as “Demister or Wire Mesh” type of mist
eliminator and it is used for removing liquid droplets efficiently from air or gas feed.
When air or gas is passing through mist eliminator, liquid droplets will be collected and separated
from air or gas due to their own gravity(momentum).
APPLICATIONS ➢ Distillation column

➢ Knock-out drum
➢ Fine liquid separation
➢ Non-fouling service
SEPERATION EFFICIENCY
Mesh type mist eliminator is generally used when better separation efficiency (99% droplet
removal above 2~3 µm size) is required than vane type mist eliminator.

Vane Type Mist Eliminator PT-VANETM Mist Eliminator is commonly referred to as “Vane or Chevron” type of mist eliminator
and it has “Zig-Zag” shape to remove liquid droplets efficiently from air or gas feed.
When air or gas turns its direction by zig-zag shape of the vane, liquid droplets are separated
from air or gas due to their own gravity(momentum).
PT-VANETM Mist Eliminator can be installed for either vertical or horizontal gas flow.

SEPERATION EFFICIENCY
Vane type mist eliminator is generally used when moderate separation efficiency (99% droplet
removal above 20 µm size) is required.
By increasing vane area, increasing number of pass or using pockets designs, 99% droplet
removal at 10 µm size can be achieved. However, high efficiency type is not recommended in
fouling service and system design shall be carefully reviewed when high efficacy type shall be
used in fouling service.

Coalescer Coalescer is used to separate two immiscible liquids and there are two zones to achieve high efficiency. Collecting zone is to collect heavy phase liquid droplets on targets by the capillarity and wetting characteristics of the media. Gravity zone to separate collected droplets in the downstream of coalescer media. Vessel geometry and dispersed phase residence time are important.
