พดถงเดอนเมษายน หลายคนจะนกถงชายหาด กบนำาทะเล เปนอนดบแรก แตคนไทยทงประเทศจะตอบเปนเสยงเดยวกนวา เปนเดอนแหงความชนมน รนเรง ตอนรบ “วนสงกรานต” หรอวนปใหมของชาวไทย นนเอง

พวกเรากคอหนงในเสยงสวนใหญคะ ตนเตนกบวนสงกรานตมากๆ เปนแบบนมาตงแตเดกจนกระทงทกวนน โปรแกรมสนกๆ ชวงเทศกาลสงกรานตระหวางวนท 13-15 เมษายน น รดตวมากคะ

April is the month which many people think about going to the beach; but for Thais, it is time to celebrate their much anticipated New Year or the Songkran Festival.

We are among the majority of those who get very excited during this time of year; and we have been this way since we were kids. Even today, from the 13th to 15th of April, our schedule would be packed with fun activities all day long.

On the 13th, we would get into cultural mode by making merit at the temple. Food would be offered to the monks and scented water would be gently poured over them. Afterwards, it is the custom to visit elderly relatives to also douse water over them and get their blessings.

Before heading off to enjoy Songkran on the beach, we each changed into comfortable and colorful clothing. It’s also a must to outfit ourselves with equipment like water pistols, talcum powder and buckets.

From Baan Naam Khem Pier in Phang-Nga Province, we took a speed boat with Baracuda Diving Co., Ltd. The ride was more comfortable than usual as this boat was designed to absorb the bumpiness of the ride, earning it an award from TAT. And in just over an hour, we arrived our destination, The Amazing Surin Islands Marine National Park.

Here, visitors will find two types of overnight accommodations, bungalow and tent styles. We chose the tent style mainly because of the location, with mountain at the back and heavenly ocean and beach in the front. Even five star hotels cannot beat this.

After stowing away our luggage, we bagan to explore the island by walking along the beach. We stopped to take pictures at Mother Hen Stone or Hin Mae Gai, the landmark of the area.

It was low tide at Chong Kad Bay so we got to enjoy the nice, shallow water that was so clear it was possible to see all the little creatures that swam by to greet us.

There were fields of coral reefs, Lion fish, clown fish and the little Morais eel that slithered by the knee deep water. Everyone was pleased and excited to see this normally shy ocean dweller in its natural habitat.

The next morning after breakfast, we took the national park’s long-tail boat (which cost one hundred baht each) to do some snorkeling around Stork Bay and Sai -Ane Bay.

During the ride, we spotted an Eden’s whale, a sight which sent everyone into a frenzy of excitement. Everyone took out their cameras and captured the moment before the creature could disappear back into the mysterious water.

Stork Island is a popular spot for snorkeling as it is shallow and offers good visibility. We swam in amazement and admired all the wonders under the sea that is filled with corals and peculiar marine dwellers.

On the way to Traine Bay, the park ranger stopped to take a look at the tracks of a turtle that came to lay eggs. The track was huge and we could imagine how enormous its owner must have been.

During the ride back, everyone agreed that this was a great trip. It has been the third time for some and yet, they never get tired of the island’s profound beauty that was present all around.

Chalong Bay is a one of the ports where sailors would meet and discuss about their excursions to various islands around Phuket.



พวกเราลำาเลยงเสบยงขนบนเรอ “White conch“ มกปตนคอยบรการพาพวกเรา แลนเรอใบ ตะลยไปบนทองทะเล ชนชมกบความงามของเกาะราชาทยงใหญ

We loaded food and water onto the sail-boat named “White Conch” then proceeded ahead with the captain whisking us through the vast ocean heading for the majestic Raja Island.

As the boat leaves the port, the huge sail opens up to catch the strong wind. Everyone was chatty and in good spirit as they anticipate the fun that lies ahead.

We sprawled around the boat and- as you might have guessed- captured photos of this luxurious mo-ment to post on facebook and instagram. Our friends would be so envious!

รอนๆ แบบนอะไรจะดเทากบการไดเลนนำา พวกเราตางวายนำาวนเวยนอยรอบๆเรอ บางกดำานำาชมปลาใหเพลดเพลน บนเทงใจ ดำาผดดำาวายกนตามอธยาศย แตทแนๆ ทกคนตางมรอยยมและเสยงหวเราะทเปยมไปดวยความสข

As we approached Raja Island, the boat slowed down a few notch and was soon anchored to a post. The clear turquoise water filled with all kinds of fish species was so irresistible that we could hardly wait to jump in.

The water was so refreshing, especially on a sunny day like this. We swam and snorkeled within close proximity to the boat and basically joked around like a bunch of children.

One the luxurious boat, there were all kinds of comforting facilities like kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and a little corner to enjoy afternoon refreshments with friends.

How quickly time flies when you’re having fun. We had spent a marvelous day exploring Raja Island on this luxurious boat and it was one of the most enjoyable experiences for all of us.

The ingredients that make up the sauce are simple. You will need shallots, fresh chilies; smoke-dried hard tailed fish (or Shing Shang fish) to give it a nice aroma, shrimp paste, lime juice, mango, palm sugar, tamarind juice, fish sauce and salt. Our special recipe is jazzed up with additional shrimp meat.

The first step of preparation is to chop everything up finely then mashing the shrimp paste and tamarind flesh and juice together until smooth. Add all the dry ingredients and shrimp meat into the paste and mix well. You can also add more flavoring to suit individual liking.
