NovaCare Complex

I am going to the NovaCare Complex to see the Philadelphia Orchestra play an Eagles themed concert.

Crowds

Many people will be at the NovaCare Complex to see the concert.

The NovaCare Complex can get crowded.

I will stay close to the people I came with.

If I want to get away from the crowds, I will ask to go to a quiet area.

Inside the NovaCare Complex

When I enter the inside of the NovaCare Complex, I will be entering a very large building with a high ceiling and a field.

The field is made of artificial turf that looks like green grass but it is not real grass.

Staff at the concert

The staff members and volunteers at the concert are friendly and helpful.

I can ask the staff where the bathrooms are and where the chill space is.

If I have a question, I can ask a staff member or volunteer.

Concert

A concert is a show with music.

Musicians sit or stand on a stage to play instruments that make music.

A small group of musicians are called an ensemble.

A large group of musicians are called an orchestra.

Musicians

An orchestra is a group of musicians playing different instruments.

Sometimes, I will see musicians play at the same time.

At other times, I will see musicians play at different times.

Music

The music gets louder and softer at different times during the show.

The music gets faster and slower at different times during the show.

I might feel excited when the music gets louder or faster. I might feel calmer when the music gets slower or softer.

If I don’t know what is happening I can ask questions to the person I came to the concert with.

Conductor

When the orchestra is on stage, I will see a person standing in front of the orchestra.

This person is called the conductor. The conductor leads the orchestra.

The conductor uses a stick called a baton to lead the orchestra’s rhythm.

The conductor moves the baton in the air to let the musicians know the speed of the music.

Swoop

Swoop is the mascot of the Eagles football team.

Swoop is a friendly mascot.

I can go up to him to say hello or give him a high five.

Fly Eagles Fly

Clapping

People clap when they like what they are hearing or seeing.

I can clap if I like what I hear or see.

People clap only for a short time then the clapping is over.

Take-a-break space

If I need to take a break from the show, I can go to the back of the field to chill out.

I can do an activity or look at books about the Eagles football team in the take-a-break space.

I can just relax and listen to the music.

I can ask a staff member or volunteer to show me where the take-a-break space is.

Activities

There will be activities at the concert that I can do.

I can check out musical instruments that I will see in the concert.

I can have my face painted or have a balloon animal made for me.

Paint on my face might feel cold and wet.

The balloon may break and make a popping noise that might surprise me.

If the balloon breaks, I can have another one made.

Leaving the concert

When the show is over, I will leave the field and sports complex.

The field and sports complex may be crowded when I leave the show.

I will walk slowly and stay with the person I am with.
