See inside newsleer for more informaon. Balanced Day Evening Presentation: Throughout last and this school year there has been some communi- cation through the school newsletter that Burhamthorpe P.S. will be moving towards a Balanced Day school day. At 7pm on Thursday April 5th the Burnhamthorpe Administration will be sharing further information on the Balanced Day. Burnhamthorpe’s move to a Balanced day will result in 2 changes to the school day; the first is that the day will transition from 2 x 15 minute recesses and 1 x 60 minute lunch to having 2 x 40 minute Nutrition breaks, secondly, the start time of the day will go from 9 a.m. to 9:10 a.m. for the 2018-2019 school calendar year. This will not impact the required 300 minutes of instruction and the school day will continue to end at 3:30 p.m. This process to transition began during the 2016-2017 school year with approval from the school council and in consultation with staff. More information will be given at this week’s presentation and we will continue to send out reminders of the changes in subsequent newsletter. Day of Pink, the internaonal day to celebrate diversity and inclusion to work towards ending homo- phobia, transphobia and all forms of bullying and discriminaon, falls on the second Wednesday of April each year. Day of Pink began when a high school student in Cambridge, Nova Scoa, was bullied with homophobic language because he wore a pink shirt to school. The next day, hundreds of students at his school stood up to bullying and wore pink to school to show their support for equity and inclu- sion. As a reminder The Burnhamthorpe P.S. parking lot is closed between 8:40 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. & from 3:15 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.. During these times the kiss n’ ride is very busy and any cars parking in the lot result- ing in adults and children walking between cars becomes considerably unsafe for everyone as well as slows down our kiss n’ ride. Please respect these times. Administrave Professionals’ Day: Peel schools will pay tribute to administrave professionals on Administrave Professionals’ Day on April 25, 2018. The Peel board appreciates the important job ad- ministrave staff do each school day and April 25 provides an opportunity to give these individuals the recognion they deserve.

Important changes coming to SafeArrival system in May 2018

he Peel District School Board is currently using the SafeArrival system by Synervoice Technologies. As Synervoice has been sold to West Communications, there will be slight changes to our SafeArrival system and how you will report your child’s absence from school. The phone number to report your child’s absence will stay the same, but there are a few other changes.

Beginning May 14, 2018, all elementary school parents/guardians need to report their child’s full-day absences, late arrivals and/or early departures from school via our new School Messenger SafeArrival system.

The phone number will stay the same: 1-855-209-6155 Website has changed to: go.schoolmessenger.ca

Download a new app: School Messenger App (from Google or Apple) (please be sure to delete the old Safe Arrival app after May 11)

Please continue to use our current Synervoice system until Friday, May 11, 2018. The new School Messenger SafeArrival will be live on Monday, May 14, 2018.

Important to note:The transition to a new company and system will require parents to set up a new account with School Mes-senger SafeArrival as data will not be transferred from the old system to the new. More information on how and when to set-up your new account will be coming in the next month.

Did you know…...

Self Regulation is about understanding stress and managing tension and energy.

What that means is when we experience stress (good or bad) our body’s natural reaction is to tense up.

Sometimes this tension is noticeable and sometimes it is not. When our body is tense it burns endless

amounts of energy. For children, this means that they have less energy to perform other tasks such as

simply being able to sit and focus on learning something new. We have come to notice that one major

stress for children is a result of a lack of quality sleep. Often it looks like misbehaviour when a child is

unable to focus and sit calmly but in truth we come to learn that they just do not have the energy re-quired. Learning is stressful (a good stress!) but without enough energy children are unable to remain

focus long enough to learn (the same holds true for adults– think about it!).

On April 10-12, 2018 our Grade JK/SK/2 and 4 students will be assessed by a Registered Dental Hygienist who will take a quick look in your child’s mouth. A form will be sent home if a child is identified.

Peel Public Health provides dental screening in select grades as required by the Ontario Ministry of Health.
