Our teachers are committed to differentiated instruction and our approach caters to the whole learner. Students’ needs shape and drive programming. We offer Credit Recovery, Special Education, the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP), and Dual Credit Programs. We also have a Daily Breakfast Program, Lunch & Learn, and extra-curricular activities. Students also have access to counselling, a Social Worker, and a Public Health Nurse. Burnhamthorpe Collegiate Adult Learning Centre (BCALC) offers a variety of credit courses for students wishing either to complete their Ontario Secondary School Diploma or needing to upgrade in preparation for college or university admission requirements. The Ed-Vance Program is for students aged 18-21, and the Adult Program is for students who are 21 years of age and over. Both programs offer preparation for the college, university, and workplace. We also offer Co-Operative Education, English as a Second Language, Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR). Adult Credit Program The Adult Credit Program offers credit courses for students who are 21 years of age or older. Students become eligible to receive the Ontario Secondary School Diploma when they complete 30 credits, the Ontario Literacy Credit and 40 hours of Community Volunteer work. Students prepare for university, community college, apprenticeship and/or work through participation in a pursuit of academic success. The program is available to students from a variety of backgrounds.

Hairstylist Apprenticeship ProgramStudio 500 Pre-Apprenticeship Program prepares you with theskills necessary to launch your career as an Apprentice Hairstylist.Classes are taught by experienced industry professionals in fullyequipped and modern classrooms. Student Life - Where You Belong

Students at Burnhamthorpe Adult Learning Centre start theirday with our Daily Breakfast Program. They also participatein a variety of extra-curricular activities, including peertutoring and lunchtime sports activities. Field trips enrichcurriculum and allow students to expand their knowledgeabout the world around them. Voices Into Action is astudent-run group that lat social issues by raising awarenessand developing at strategies for positive change.

What sets us apart from other schools is ourstudent-centered approach which promotes literacy andnumeracy goals and works to build success for everystudent. As well, we regularly assess student needs andachievement strategies. We provide a warm and supportiveatmosphere, promoting equity and inclusion initiativesthrough out the various programs.

Parent and Community Engagement

Community involvement is an important aspect at BurnhamthorpeAdult Learning Centre. Each year, we celebrate Winterfest andSummerfest where allow programs come together as a learningcommunity. Once a month, we have Lunch and Learn programs.Lunch and Learn sessions provide our students with relevantinformation about issues that pertain to their lives. Our guests atLunch and Learn have included: nothes against Drunk Driving, skillsCanada Speaches, and Breakaway -Addicition Success. Collegeand university speakers visit regularly to inform students aboutprograms and future career options.
