ENGAGE WITH YOUNG WATER PROFESSIONALS

CYPRUS WATER ASSOCIATION (CWA)
▪ Established in 2017 and is the IWA Governing Member for Cyprus
▪ Aims to:
− address the challenges of Cyprus’ water issues
− support research and development in this field and
− promote and apply best practices, techniques and modern methods in the field of
water and wastewater
▪ Membership includes:
− Regular Members
− Honorary Members
− Student Members
− Corporate Members (Public Bodies, Academic Research Institutions, Private Entities )

CYPRUS WATER ASSOCIATION
Future Activities:
▪ Organisation of seminars, workshops and other events
▪ Organisation of a joint conference with the Greek Water Association
▪ Set up of Specialist Groups: Desalination, Water Quality, Water Resource
Management, Wastewater management, etc
▪ Preparation of leaflets and newsletters
▪ Participation in the IWA General Assemblies
▪ Support the CYWP in their activities

THE CYPRUS YOUNG WATER PROFESSIONALS
The chapter was created to:
▪ Encourage young water professionals to join the CWA
▪ Provide an umbrella for young water professionals in Cyprus to
network, develop skills and share knowledge
▪ Provide a platform for young water professionals in Cyprus to network
with YWPs from other Chapters and the IWA
GOAL
To have an active YWP chapter in Cyprus that contributes to young water
professionals’ knowledge, supports their professional development and
provides a platform for networking and a hub for information on water related
matters (work opportunities, events, etc.) in Cyprus and abroad.

Objectives:
▪ Have a registration list of YWP members in Cyprus
▪ Create social media platforms for member networking
(CWA website, Facebook , IWA connect)
▪ Organise YWP conferences and educational events in Cyprus
In the future:
▪ Circulate newsletter
▪ Fundraising and sponsorship
▪ Collaborate with other country chapters
▪ Social outreach, e.g. schools, universities

ACHIEVEMENTS IN 2019
▪ Steering Committee formed
▪ Set up of website, Facebook and IWA connect page

▪ Activities carried out:
− Presentation of Chapter at CWA event – 1 Jun 2019
− Social night in Nicosia – 12 Sep 2019
− Site visit to Dhekelia desalination plant – 27 Nov 2019
− Presentations by CYWP members at CWA GA – 18 Jan 2020
