My Friends in the Lord Jesus, There are two weeks until Easter. Holy Week begins next Sunday with the celebration of Palm Sunday. It is my prayer that Lent continues to be a source of hope and renewal for you. The miracle sign of Jesus calling forth Lazarus from the dead, in the Gospel according to John today, directs our attention to the Lord’s resurrection. As in all of the gospels of the Sundays of Lent, this one too has great meaning for us. “I am the resurrection and the life”, Jesus proclaims, and asks Martha “do you believe this?” That is the question for us to ponder in these last weeks of Lent. Our response, like that of Martha, enlightens our hearts and increases our faith and hope. “Yes, Lord. I have come to believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God…” After calling forth Lazarus from the tomb, Jesus gave the command to untie his burial cloths, “Untie him and let him go free.” This is a powerful command. Only God can set a person free from the shackles of death. “Untie him and let him go free” are words addressed to each of us. It is the will, desire and the grace of God that we be set free from all that binds us. With power and love to transform our lives, Jesus forgives us our sins, frees us from the burdens that bind our hearts and souls, strengthens us in time of temptation, and gives the command for us to come forth into his light and life. As Holy Week approaches, we pray and hold close to our hearts this truth, “With the Lord there is mercy and fullness of redemption.” Fr. Ron

5th Sunday of Lent

“Jesus said to her, ‘Did I not tell you that if you believe you will see the glory of God?’” (John 11:40)

Many of us say that we believe in God. We go to church on Sunday. We volunteer for events at our parish. But when life gets hard, the pressure is on, things aren’t going our way, do we really believe, do we really put our trust in the Lord? When we live a life of gratitude, being thankful for the gifts we have been given, we really do see that God is providing all that we need.
