Planet Cancer!

More than 108,000 patients will journey this year to The

MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. It is the

largest cancer center in the world. It is so big that even the

17,000+ employees get lost. Unfortunately, since I have

been a patient here for the past 6 years, I no longer get lost

and often stop to give directions to those who look

bewildered. MD Anderson is its own universe, where

nothing matters but cancer. The Cobb family finds

ourselves on a new planet, and although it is a planet to

which we have traveled before, it is no less easy to be

surrounded by this horrible monster called cancer. It is no

surprise to me that God has called us to minister to the

wonderful people of Texas, and especially to Houston and

The Texas Medical Center.

The Cobb family met Billy Gonzales and his family

on July 4th

. It was purely a “God thing” when we

asked Billy to take a picture of our family on July 4th

while watching the fireworks in Pearland. We

discovered that Billy is in active treatment at MD

Anderson also. He has been fighting Lymphoma for

several years. This past week revealed that his cancer

has spread to his eyes and the prognosis is very poor.

In this picture, Julia was given a Moxie doll at her

Pediatric Clinic, but decided to give it to Billy’s

daughter instead. Our friendship has grown and we

continue to minster regularly to this family.

Jonathan had the marvelous opportunity to assist in a

chapel service at Memorial Hermann Hospital. This

service is conducted once a month for patients and

employees at the hospital. God gave Jonathan the

opportunity to share his cancer story and make other

connections for future ministry.

God opened an unusual door for us at The Ronald

McDonald House. We partnered with a local church to

conduct a prayer service for interested families. More

than 25 people were prayed for as we sat for more

than 3 hours listening and chatting with families. It

was a great time of encouragement. As far as we

know, this is the first service of its kind at The Ronald

McDonald House!

Next month the Cobb family will travel to a church in

Ft. Worth to share our testimony. Doors are beginning

to open at other churches also. If you know of a

church, school, or other organization that would like

to have the Cobb family to come and share their

testimony, please contact us.

What’s been happening in July

The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love

he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17

Julia receives heaven-sent news on her July MRI

If you follow Jennifer’s Facebook posts, you may remember a

story about Ismaeel. This sweet little boy lost his battle recently.

We received incredibly good news in July regarding

Julia’s MRI. To quote her oncologist, “there’s no

evidence of disease!” PRAISE GOD!! Julia has

completed 12 of 14 chemotherapy treatments. She

will begin her last two treatments in August!

It has been a very difficult month for Julia as chemo

has taken its toll, not to mention the emotional

impact. Sad to say, that Julia is often the victim of

other children poking fun at her bald head, of which

she is very proud. Although she’s brave, she is also 7

years old and it hurts us all. We are at MD Anderson

nearly 5 days a week either getting platelets, blood,

therapy, diagnostic testing, or seeing a doctor. We

take our time in between to visit other patients and

try to encourage them to the best of our ability.

My mom (“Ma D”) completed her 30th radiation

treatment this month. Unfortunately, the side effects

of chemo and radiation have been extreme. We have

made several ER trips as a result of severe brain

swelling. It’s a miracle that she has pulled through

each time. She gets a brief break from chemo before

having another MRI in August. This will be the first

MRI post chemo to measure the success of her

treatment. Regardless of the results, she will continue

chemo. Please pray for her as she battles the most

aggressive form of brain cancer, Glioblastoma.

Cobb Family Update

A surprise visit from Gene Webb.

Julia was fast asleep from a tough day.

July 2012

The Cobb family has been attending Sagemont Baptist

Church in Houston. They have embraced our family with

much love. While we love the church, we deeply miss our

friends at RBC. We appreciate your correspondence and

prayers. They mean the world to our family.

In addition to Julia and Ma D, we also covet your prayers

in the following areas: a great school for the kids (we are

searching daily), a larger home to rent (that will give us

more room with our party of eight, and a Golden Retriever,

and that God will work out the details), that God will give

us strength to minister to the many families, nurses, and

doctors in the Texas Medical Center and refresh our hearts

as we have lost 6 friends just in July (Julia’s age) to cancer

and it’s difficult for our family to witness the struggles of

other families fighting this disease.

Thank you, Ridgecrest Baptist Church, for walking

through the fire with our family. We are grateful for your

love and support. We love you all more than you know!
