Pastor Jonathan Cobb Texas Missionary Report

October/November

“You talk of faith when you’re up on the mountain. Oh, but

the talk comes so easy when life’s at its best. But it’s down

in the valley of trials and temptations, that’s where faith is

really put to the test.” The lyrics from the song, “God on the

Mountain” have been more than lyrics, as our faith has been

pushed to extreme limits. The Cobb family received

devastating news of a 1 cm spot on Julia’s MRI on October

23, 2012. A biopsy days later would confirm malignancy.

For our family, faith is not a list of options that we can

choose to use or not use. We have decided to continue to

trust God and we are still singing:

“The God on the mountain is still God in the valley, when

things go wrong He’ll make them right. And the God of the

good times, is still God of the bad times. And the God of the

day is still God of the night.”

He will keep in perfect peace all those who trust in Him, whose thoughts turn often to the Lord! Trust in the Lord always,

for in the Lord, Jehovah, is your everlasting strength.

Cancer can’t stop the joy and fun of October 31st.

One of the best ways to overcome discouragement is

through encouragement. We don’t spend our days

reflecting on cancer and what we can’t change. We choose

to think on “good things” and about what we can do to

encourage others. We seek unique ways to share our

testimony.

The Cobb family has enjoyed a unique ministry to older

adults with cancer. Having experienced it from both sides,

we have discovered that many of our adult friends

(especially senior adults) are often overlooked through

their treatment. Team “JuCan” is out to change that. We

count it a joy to minister to “God’s” people!

We received a text the other day from a lady that we met

for the first time in May. She told us that she has been

following Julia’s journey on Facebook. This is what she

said:

“I want you to know that my daughter changed her major

as a result of Julia, and she now wants to be an

occupational therapist.”

It is messages like these that keep our family going. We

appreciate the members of RBC for being a loving and

gracious family. You have made an impact on our ministry

and in our hearts that we will always treasure. Thank you

for supporting our ministry in Texas and for praying for us

daily. One day we will return to share the many stories of

how God used you to help us through our cancer journey.

You are in our thoughts and prayers.

PS. For you Alabama fans…..please know that we had

NOTHING to do with the Texas A&M upset of the Tide.

For you Auburn fans….please send your gift in kind to our

home address! LOL (Don’t ya just love politics)

What’s been happening….

“He can move the mountains

My God is mighty to save

He is mighty to save”

Julia gives Mr. Reed a “JuCan” shirt. Mr. Reed has been in the

hospital for almost a year! We visit often and pray together!

We overheard this family in the pediatric clinic talking about

their car trouble and wondering how they would pay for

repairs. As God moved upon hearts, we presented them a

check from the Julia Cobb Cancer Fund to help!

Our friend Summer Dale passed away the first part of

November. She was only 17, but made a tremendous impact

on children & young adults fighting cancer.

Thanks to www.Sunshine Kids.org, we were able to meet Craig Biggio, a

former Major League Baseball with the Houston Astros. The Sunshine

Kids provides a variety of programs and events, free of charge, for kids

who are receiving cancer treatments in hospitals across North America.

Daddy & Julia share their testimony with the FCA at Clear

Lake High School (Clear Lake, Tx).

Cobb Family Ministries

The decision to “officially” move the Cobb family to Texas

back earlier in the year was made with great agony. I toiled

over the matter during many sleepless nights. I would often

pace the floor of our Springville home in the wee hours of the

night, seeking God’s wisdom and listening for that still small

voice. I firmly believe that “a good man’s steps are ordered

by the Lord,” although the decision that God led me to didn’t

appear all that rational to me. Why leave a church, home, and

community we love for guaranteed uncertainty? I spend little

time these days interrogating God over His motives and

plans. I simply ask Him for the strength to follow His lead.

While I don’t pretend to understand the events of the past

year, I trust God more now than ever. I trust His future for my

family and I, better than anything I could ever think or

imagine. His plans are always good, and I’m good with that!

When you move with GOD, you move in the right direction.

That doesn’t mean the road won’t be bumpy from time to

time; it just means that God will get you to the place He needs

you to be at some point.

After much prayer, we have resurrected The Cobb Family

Ministries, Inc. In the 80’s and 90’s, I traveled in full time

evangelism with my family (singing and preaching). It was

one of the most rewarding times of my life. The Cobb family

plans to continue our evangelistic ministry in a fresh new

way. We are also excited to report that God has led us to birth

The JuCan Foundation, Inc, a non-profit 501(c)3. God is in

the process of giving us clarity and direction for this new

foundation. Our number one goal will be to bring honor to

God and to point people to the best person we know to handle

a catastrophe, CHRIST! I hope you will partner with us as we

begin our journey. Our hearts desire is to help families that

have been impacted by cancer and other serious illnesses

(children & adults), and to share our story in churches and

schools, etc.

We have not ruled out the possibility of serving in a local

church, should God open the door. Please pray that God will

guide my steps, just like He did in our Springville home. Pray

that God will bring healing and good health to the Cobb

family so that we might serve Him in an even greater

capacity. Most of all, pray that God will use the Cobb family

story to point people to a life changing relationship with

Jesus. We covet your daily prayers. The road is still uncertain

and we have major decisions to make concerning our health

insurance, housing, and medical care for our family. We don’t

know the future, be we do know the ONE who holds the

future safely in His hands. –Jonathan Cobb

Power in Prayer…..

The kids are adjusting to their new school. We are blessed with

supportive and caring teachers. Julia is attending on the days

that she feels up to it. During the week, Jennifer picks her up

after lunch to travel to MD Anderson for her afternoon chemo.

Thank you for praying for her healing and that she would

remain strong through treatment. She’s on a new regimen of

chemotherapies with a new set of side effects. Julia will do 2

cycles and then be reassessed on December 12. The

preliminary plan is do surgery after several cycles of chemo,

followed by more chemo.

My mother’s last scan revealed a now growing tumor and she

will be changing to a new chemo to combat the cancer and

brain swelling. Please keep my parents in your prayers.

Jaxi is growing bigger and now talking. She turned 2 on

November 13. Jenna is doing an exceptional job of taking care

of Julia. Jonathan just got braces and is a starting point guard

for his basketball team. Daddy is very proud.

We are praying for Ridgecrest and thank you all for staying

connected to our family. God bless you all.
