Thank you to Anne B for running the group whilst I was in UK getting into all sorts of bother Fire alarams going off at midnight in the hotel, flooding the bathroom (same hotel) and breaking down on the railway lines half a mile from Beverley and I could see the lights of a train in the stationWe have several new people - mainly ladies - but gentlemen will always be nmade welcome On 13 October we eat at a new Italian restaurant at Altos Limonar near Johnsons/Shannons/BMW on the main Crevillente road m Torrevieja not far from La Siesta roundabout. They can be seen from the road. We get together at 12.45 hrs for 1.30 hrs.On 27 October we will be at the Mini Golfin Quesada. We will meet about 1300 hrs and proceed from there. If you do not want to take part in the mini golf just join us for the meal...........there will be lots of 'discussions, cheating aand wild shots'.....old people growing old disgracefully! Are you over 50 years of age and on your own. Ladies and gentlemen welcome. Come and join us for a meal and a chat. No subs or fees. Hello again. Here at Spectrum Art Group we've restarted our weekly classes at the usual time of 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.. on Tuesdays at The Club, Ciudad Quesada. Already members are settling back into their favorite hobby after the long, hot summer and, as always, we would like to welcome anyone who feels they would like to join us. This month the two paintings shown are by members Audrey Ford and Ian Ross who have developed their skills beautifully during the years they have been with me. So whether you're inspired by the Great Masters, Mother Nature, Contemporary Art or just have a love of colour, why not come along for a relaxing and rewarding morning. Studio 17 Life Drawing Club
The weekly workshops have now restarted with short poses during the morning session from 11am to 1pm and long pose(s) during the afternoon session from 2.30pm to 4.30pm with models from all round the world.Cost is the model fee divided by the number of artists - so can between 6 Euros & 15 Euros/person + 2 Euros for materials - and artists staying to both sessions get free tapas & wine.Workshops are suitable for beginners and experienced artists alike, and artists will tell you that life drawing is very important in improving drawing and observational skills - if you can capture life you can draw anything!Numbers are limited to just 5 artists maximum - and sessions may be cancelled if there are no artists too - so it is important to book in with Martin each week on [email protected] or phone 965 72 49 27This picture is an oil painting done during the longer afternoon pose with new local model Terri(And if anyone else is interested in modeling for the group at 15Euros/hr, Martin would be pleased to hear from you.)

This year we have decided to present the traditionalpantomime Dick Whittington who as we all know had the distinction of becoming Lord Mayor of London three times.Dick Whittington has probably got the most evil villain that actors wish to portray out of any pantomimes performed- King Rat,and our offering is no exception.Christine Smith (director) said " for this years production i wanted the cast as well as the audience to have lots of fun, and so there will be plenty of audience participation and lots of laughs. Our backstage crew have been working on the scenery which will be the best we have had to date. All of the group are commited to giving the public a true theatre experience and we very much appreciate their support,especially in these times of uncertain Economic crisis.”

Now that the temperature and the humidity are on the way down the weather is not so oppressive for fishing. It will now become easier for us. The fact that using a keep net during the heat of the day in non flowing water for 6 hour matches, is a no-no especially during the temperatures that we had this year.The results of the only two Club Matches held during August was the 23th the final of the Clubs Knock out Trophy which was fished at the Bar and was won by Ian Dalzell. The Murcian Cup was fished on the 30th on the River Segura in Murcia town centre, this was a close run thing with Dennis Pick coming out on top.The Club is at present finalising its match calender for 2013 with the Valencian and the Murcian Federations and the Medio Ambientes. We are also working on a full winter season of Social events starting with a race night in October- see the Clubs web site for full details at www.carprus.net

Sasen Ryu Martial Arts Academy
The Sasen Ryu Martial Arts Academy (SRMAA) started over 5 years ago. A family run academy, SRMAA has grown into one of the largest and most renowned academy’s for martial arts training on the Costa Blanca. Originally a Karate academy they have recently expanded by offering Tae Kwon Do as well.The packed classes are for all ages (toddlers, juniors and adults) and abilities offering self defence, fitness and lots of fun! Family classes are held for 3 year olds to learn the basics of self defence with a parent, this is a great way for families to keep fit and have fun together.They hold Bushido classes, a unique class for young black belts.They also have a demo team on stand by to support local charity events. Kids Club Quesada Mamas & Babas
In June this year the mother and baby group was opened at The Studio, Quesada by 2 English mums, both had young children and could not find a group to socialise. They wanted their children to interact with others and for mums to share their experiences and ideas, such as weaning, first aid and to learn about the Spanish hospital system, etc. Children from 8 weeks old up to 3 years currently attend the group each week and all nationalities are welcome.This free group sponsored by Sasen Ryu Martial Arts Academy is held every Thursday from 1.30pm-2.30pm and is for children 3 years and under. The group is appreciative of any donations of unwanted toys and runs a clothes swap shop for others to enjoy once older children have out grown them. The Gilbert & Sullivan Society
A new G & S society rises from the old.After the Gilbert and Sullivan Society’s Musical Director, Accompanist, Social Secretary and a number of singing members all left the Society to return to the UK or to do other things, many thought the Society was at its end. However core elements of the Society are determined to continue and with a new Musical Director (Judy Phillips), a new accompanist (Antonio Guillen) and a new Social Secretary (Ingrid Bouwer), the society is reborn with a new sense of dedication and vigour. The society are determined to continue with the wonderful music of Messrs’ Gilbert and Sullivan, but also to perform music from more modern musicals, from other popular composers. Rehearsals are now being held at Bar Oasis, Torreta III, Torrevieja on Fridays between 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm. in preparation for “our Big Fat G & S Wedding” concert on the 17th and 18th November at Casa Ventura. The program will still include items from G & S shows but will also include many other Show songs. Tickets will cost 8 euros to include a platter of savoury food. In bowls, October brings with it a sense of excitement, the membership is set and the team squads have been selected for the oncoming winter season leagues. Those who find the summer heat a little uncomfortable are getting their bowling actions back into shape for the months ahead. Some look ahead to glory, whilst others just look forward to great fun with a little good humoured competition and yet others just look forward to a little social bowling with friends. Having just warmed up with a friendly between the Captain and Presidents’ selections we now look forward to friendlies against UK touring teams from Clevedon Promenade BC, Meldreth BC and Tamworth BC, all great fun. El Rancho is hosting The Federation Cup on 4th to 6th October, a great chance to watch the best bowlers in the area demonstrating their skills. But you don’t need to possess such skill to enjoy bowling as a pastime, just a sociable Nature.

Suzi4fitz girls continue to enjoy Monday and Friday classes at Las Ramblas Golfclub
10.30am . Due to high temperatures, Sue has taught a more ‘sedate’ ‘tone n trim’ class concentrating more on Body Conditioning’ with Weights, Resistance Bands and Pilates Balls and some slower dance moves.
Great fun has been had at Suzi4fitz Aquafit classes at La Finca Country Club at Campomor, which will continue until the beginning of October on Tuesdays and Thursdays 9.45am.
Once Aqua has finished a brand new Suzi4fitz \‘Dance’ class is due to open in October. Sue already teaches Tap dancing classes. New members are welcome.Starting October, the group hopes to meet up twice a month on Thursdays for a walk providing a chance to chat and enjoy an afternoon stroll ending with a well earned refreshment!

The first annual duck race organised by the Torrevieja Costa Lions Club sponsored by Talleres Yogesh of Almoradi, and The TV Choice Magazine, was held on Sunday at the Paraje Natural Soto del Molino in Formentera Del Segura. The Lions had for many years planned a Duck race but could never guarantee A river to be flowing after a long hot summer. However a perfect location in Formentera was found in El Paraje.Around three hundred people came along to witness the event and what a great time they had. There was four hours of splendid entertainment with Pete Hull performing music to suit all tastes. TKO Roadshow livened up the afternoon with a great mixture of music that suited both the TKO Gold and TKO FM families, the Lions greatly appreciated the attendance of Dave Knights, Darren James and Barry Newlove and wish them all every success for the future.The excellent JB Brass under the direction of Ian Tinsley performed for the throng and once again proved why they are the best brass band outside of Yorkshire.The Barbecue was a huge attraction and Extinguished Firefighter Dave Graham and his wife Chris worked tirelessly alongside Lions to ensure that there would be no need to call out the Bomberos.To round off the barbecue meal, Costa Cones were on hand with the only Ice cream van on the Costa Blanca, much to the excitement and pleasure of the crowd.To the Duck Race, 1500 tickets were sold before the race started which was due to the great work done by the Lions and a few friends, Dave Goben and Roger Troutman deserve a special mention.The race started at 1600 hrs and some of the better trained ducks moved off smartly and set the pace, followed closely by a closing pack of around 50 ducks tailgating using the slipstream to their advantage .As the front runners approached the finishing line duck number 95 was well ahead finishing in first place, followed by 1149 and 775, however 1149 decided to head for the reeds allowing 775 to finish in second place 8 duck lengths ahead of 1149. The following pack all put up a good chase but too late to finish in the winners enclosure.The purpose of the Duck Race was to assist young Dayron Blanc , and help towards his treatment and therapy which will hopefully at some time in the near future improve his quality of life.Lion President Janette Bennett is delighted to report that there has been in excess of 3,500.00 euros raised by the Lions which will be channelled directly to support Dayron.

With news of Lewis Hamilton’s move to Mercedes now confirmed, McLaren have announced Sauber’s Sergio Perez as his replacement for 2013. The up-and-coming Mexican, who has already scored two podiums this season, has been signed by the Woking team on a multi-year contract.Sauber, where Perez currently partners Japan's Kamui Kobayashi, say they will confirm their 2013 line-up in due course. Vega Baja Garden Club
The Vega Baja Garden Club met on 3rd September at its usual venue, Los Rosales Restaurant, Campo de Guardamar. Chris Hughes of Lawns in Spain gave a most interesting talk on the common mistakes that many people make, trying to grow good green lawns here on the Costa Blanca. He illustrated his talk with samples of different types of grass and addressed six basic problems with cultivating a lawn. He explained how it is possible to achieve success, through careful choice of the type of grass, and proper preparation of the ground, without having to use large volumes of water, and at an ongoing economic cost. Members questions were answered and various plants provided by the Club were raffled.The next meeting, on 1st October, at 13.45 for a prompt 14.00 start, will include a talk by John Donovan on Growing tomatoes, a general Gardening Question and Answer session, and the Club's AGM, when feedback will be received on last season's programme, and officers to serve on the committee to progress this season's programme will be elected. Cantabile Female Voice Choir
Cantabile female voice choir is a friendly and sociable group of ladies who take their music seriously. Their repertoire ranges from religious and classical to traditional, folk, popular songs and music from the cinema and shows. While their songs are predominantly English, they sometimes sing in Spanish, German, French and Latin. Musical Director, Jennifer, produces training CDs to help the ladies learn the music. They perform several concerts each year, and through their musical efforts, Cantabile has raised a fair amount of money for charity. In the last 3 years, for example, they have made donations to: The Alzheimer’s Association, the Stroke Awareness Association, The Butterfly Children, the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Torrevieja, the Evangelical Church at La Siesta and Campoverde Church. While rehearsals for Christmas are in full swing, Cantabile are also at present rehearsing for their next concert in Campoverde Church on Sunday October 14th at 7.30.
