This is our church’s largest outreach effort. If you are new to the parish, it is a great way to im-merse yourself in the life of Christ Church. If you have never been a part of it, make this THE year. It is a truly amazing effort. You just have to see it to believe it.
Our 88thRummage Sale is
October 4th from 7am to 3 pm
The New Trier Food Pantry desperately needs your help. Our October food drive is focused on pasta, pasta sauce and canned pasta! Please bring your donations to church on Sunday or to the Parish Offi ce during the week.
We will gather everything at the end of the month and deliver to the New Trier Food Pantry on Elm Street in Winnetka. Many thanks for your help.
If you would like to help with the Food Pantry Committee, please email Jetta Boschen [email protected].

Our new Sunday night service is off to a great start. Join us for worship at 6 p.m. at the Church on the Hill with dinner immediately following at 6:45 p.m. On most Sunday nights, we offer Sung Compline. Once a month, the choir will sing Evensong. We also offer communion from the Reserved Sacrament, consecrated earlier in the day at our morning Eucharist. Please join us for either service OR both. You are invited to eat with us even if you do not attend church that night. The food is fabulous!! Cost is $10/person with a $30 family cap. The menus for October can be found on page 2.

Overheard at the Stewardship Dinner
In an effort to ensure that our Sunday worship services continue to run smoothly, many of the responsibilities formerly managed by our Curate are now being taken care of by lay leaders. Several dedicated parishioners have accepted responsibility for leading the following worship ministries:
Vergers: Jim Henderson
Usher Directors: Michael Peregrine & Molly Ethridge
Chalice Assistants: Lawson Whitesides
Lectors: Susie Sprowl
Acolyte Master: Todd Trubey
These leaders will schedule and train volunteers, and coordinate with the clergy and vergers to provide the appropriate resources for all of our worship. We are grateful for their valuable service to the Christ Church community.
Lay Parishioners Step Into Leadership Roles
Have you noticed something new in the Prevost Cloister? Each month one of our Christ Church Ministries will be highlighted so that we can learn more about the many outreach and Chris-tian service opportunities available to all of us. October’s outreach ministry is our Christmas Angels program. Stop by and visit often to see how you can get involved at Christ Church. We look forward to seeing you there!
Introducing “Ministry of the Month”October: Christmas Angels

Wondering what to do after the 9:30 service on Sunday? Here’s the answer: don’t leave the building! This year, while the younger children are in class, there will be three opportunities to explore your faith and how you practice it. These programs are open to all adults, youth and children not participating in Children’s Christian Education.
1) In the Church: Parishioners are encouraged to get their coffee and return to the pews after the end of the 9:30 service to hear speakers from within our Christ Church Community and beyond. Topics will vary, but speakers will explore how we grow in our faith, how we can bring in the Kingdom in our lives and work, and how we can work toward the “peace which passes all understanding.” Speakers and topics will be announced in the bulletin, the Parish Paper and on the website.
2) In the McClain Room: Gospel Lectionary Discussion: This informal discussion of the weekly Sunday Gospel reading will begin with a few opening questions to get things started and then the fl oor will be opened to discussion. This is always a lively way to spend an hour in the company of fellow parishioners interested most especially in growing in their understanding of the Word.
3) In the Lea Room: Just a cup of coffee for goodness sake. The Lea room will be open to parishioners seeking a little more caffeine and a little less structure to their Sunday mornings. There will be newspapers and better-than-the-usual-Church-coffee. What’s not to like?
If you have suggestions and ideas about Faith & Practice after worship or throughout the week, please feel very free to stop Shay when you see her or send her a note at [email protected]

Christ Church provides a meal twice a month to A Just Harvest Community Kitchen and volunteering is as simple as...
* Cooking a pan of chili or spaghetti (recipes are on the church’s website). We cook chili for the 2nd Tuesday’s meal and spaghetti for the 4th Saturday’s meal every month. Large aluminum pans are available in the Parish House offi ce.
* Buying 6 gallons of milk - any variety.
* Buying salad fi xings (6 heads of iceberg or 3 large bags of lettuce) and ranch dressing (4 x-large or 5 large bottles).
* Buying fruit (75 pieces if there are two people buying fruit. All fruit is ok, but please limit apples since the soup kitchen guests may have diffi culty with their dental status).
* Serving - transporting food from the other volunteers to A Just Harvest (location and driving directions on the website). You will need to arrive 30 minutes early (5pm on Tuesdays and 4:30pm on Saturdays). Servers can be 10 years old and up, everyone must wear closed-toe shoes and serving takes anywhere from 60-90 minutes depending on how much help is needed to clean-up. The kitchen staff are wonderful, very helpful and grateful to have you there, and the guests are so appreciative that we’ve taken time out of our lives to be there for them!
Sign-up for one or three, but please consider joining us in this rewarding and meaningful min-istry! Feel free to tear this page out and use it as a reference, go to our link on the website to get to the “sign-up genius” scheduling system, and remember that we are always happy to answer any questions.
