Why is the marriage protection
amendment needed Unlike a statute a constitutional provision cannot
be changed without permission from voters
The people of Minnesota get to decide to protect
the important institution of mar-
riage before judges and politicians
redefine it
The marriage protection amend-
ment prevents judges from striking
down Minnesotarsquos Defense of
Marriage Act and prevents legisla-
tors from redefining marriage into a system of
genderless domestic partnerships or civil unions
(See HF 1710 (genderless marriage created) and
HF 1746 (eliminates marriage)
There is an active court by three same-sex couples
(Benson v Alverson) challenging Minnesotarsquos
Defense of Marriage Act A recent decision by the
MN Court of Appeals in that case has effectively
put marriage on trial in Hennepin County
Marriage is not a creature of the state that can be
redefined at will Judges and politicians have no
power to redefine marriage Government recog-
nizes and supports marriage it cannot redefine it

SUMMER MASS TIMES AT HOLY ROSARY After a couple weeks of gathering input of the times of the Sunday morning Masses at Holy Rosary we have concluded that we will change the Sunday morning Mass times to 800 and 1000 AM The Sunday morning radio broadcast will be taped at 800 AM for broadcast at 900 AM This schedule will be go into effect on Memorial Day Weekend Sunday May 27 through Labor Day weekend Sunday September 2 when the schedule will return to the original times We received several emails with comments and basket full of other com-ments at the Parish Office Some commented on why or why not the change should or should not be made and others simply noted their ldquoyesrdquo or ldquonordquo We realize that some like it the way it has been so they can spend time Sunday morning as they always have for years and others who say the earlier times gives them more time in the day for family time lake time and just enjoying the summer The Knights of Columbus who sponsor the pancake and French toast breakfast on the first Sunday of the month have never been able to get home before 200 PM with the original schedule Thanks for all your input Letrsquos try it and see We will take an assessment of the change in the fall

Thought for the WeekWhat is real freedom Itrsquos
not a mark of freedom to simply be wildly different
we must be able to be free not to be different as well
At times we might want a soul that is free and a mind
that is strong but forget that these must be earned
The secret of both lies in self-control taking time to
reflect on our experiences and asking ―What did I
learn from them In the learning we would do well to
remember that our lives take many side roads before
we find the highways of the heart that take us home
And to remember that only by living well with others
can we discover who we really are what we really
need and what we have to give to the rest of the
world Real freedom is ours when we are on the path
of becoming all God intended us to be The poet Gi-
bran puts it this way ―You can muffle the drum and
you can loosen the strings of the lyre but who shall
command the skylark not to sing
