First Day

First Day - Thursday 5th September

• Only Year 7 and Year 11 in school.• Arrive at school by 8.25am• Gather on the middle playground to meet tutors and Year 11

prefects. Staff will be on hand to direct.• Periods 1-2 with tutors including year group assembly and

meeting Year 11 prefects• Period 3 with tutors, getting used to the school• During periods 1-3, registration for fingerprint recognition

for cashless catering will be completed - reminder to hand in the consent form please

• Periods 4-6 follow timetabled lessons - may need PE kit!

Equipment

The following “Basic Kit” is needed:• Black or blue ball point pen (and spare!)• Pencil• Eraser • Pencil Sharpener• Ruler• Coloured pencils/fine fibre tip pens• Pair of compasses, protractor, set square• Calculator• Glue stick• Homework diary 2018-2019


• All students will be issued with this in September.

• Homework assignments will be written in here.

• It is also the first line of communication from School to Home, and from Home to School.

• Please check and sign the diary on a weekly basis.

• If you write a note, please prompt your son/daughter to show it to the relevant teacher.

Homework Diary

The Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)

• Internet-based.

• Access in school or at home.• Used by teachers for

organising and setting homework, projects and other activities.

• Students can submit work, contribute to debates, add pictures/videos to learning blogs and lots more.

• Personal school email account linked with Google Docs and Google classroom

Usernames and passwords will be issued on their first day at the school and all students will be given support on how the VLE works during ICT lessons

Mobile Phones

• School is a mobile phone free area• Not for use at lessons or break times• Only for use before or after school to contact

parents about transport• It remains switched off in the student’s bag• Not to be used by students to contact parents or

for parents to contact students during the day - the School Office is the point of contact

• IT acceptable use policy applies


Academic Reporting

In Year 7, we will report termly on academic progress.This will be through one of the following:

• Parents’/Carers’ Consultation Evening - Thursday 28th November

• Reviews November 2019, March 2020 and July 2020

It is our aim for our students to project a proud and accomplished image of themselves.

● This is limited to one pair of plain studs and a watch.

● Only one stud should be worn in each ear. ● Other styles such as spacers, spikes and hoops

are not suitable for school. ● No other jewellery, facial or body piercing is

permitted including nose, lip and tongue piercings.

Ordering uniform

The Uniform Office will be open 5.30-7pm on Wednesday 10th July, Thursday 11th July, Monday 15th July and Tuesday 16th July.

Reopens for collections/exchanges at the end of the summer holidays between 5.30-7.30pm on Tuesday 3rd September and 10am–1pm on Wednesday 4th September.

‘Meet the PTA’ informal meeting on 16th September - drop in 7-9pm.

Tracey Schuil-Brewer and Angela Gosling will be available at the end of this Evening, should anyone wish to have a chat about volunteering.

Transport

• Hampshire County Council is responsible for all local school transport plans and arrangements. Any queries should be addressed directly to them. Applications are made using the online service

• HCC usually send bus passes and precise details of the route and stops in late August/early September.

• Morton’s buses run the privately hired service from Chineham, Lychpit, Old Basing etc.

• Students who are staying for extra curricular activities can catch a late bus -tickets sold on the day by our prefects. The buses leave around 3.40pm. The late buses are arranged by the school.

• Safe dropping off, parking and driving near the school. Cars are not allowed on to the school site between 2.20pm and 2.45pm.
