But last October, my dad had a heart attack! Not even three weeks prior, my dad had just completed his second half marathon and even before that day, my dad had been working out daily and was eating as healthy as any runner would. As soon as I was given the news, I trembled and I felt as if I could not breathe. The first thought that flowed through my mind was, “Is he alive?” As I processed the news, I began to also think, “Why? How? He just ran a half marathon! He eats right! He’s healthy! This isn’t supposed to happen!” I was shocked and in disbelief. I wanted nothing more but to be my dad’s side and be there for him like he’s always done for me. Nothing made sense about the whole thing. “God, weren’t you supposed to protect my family? Did I do something to cause this? Why now? Where are you?” These questions coursed through my head throughout that day and night. Needless to say, I had become angry with God and this too frightened me even more. I never wanted to be angry with God. It wasn’t until my dad was in recovery and until he led my mom and I in a prayer of thanksgiving for God’s protection that I realized God never left us, that there wasn’t a moment He did not care for us. I was reminded of the passage in Romans 5:3-5, We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.” As many other families have experienced trials, our family has too had our own share of tribulationsI believe God allows these trials to happen so we as children of God can grow spiritually, and develop our faith and walk with God. Trials also develop a godly character and this enables us believers to “rejoice in sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” (Romans 5:3-5)

Woven Together

God loves His children and He will never leave us. (John 3:16)

A trustworthy and dependable father figure is known to be a scarcity in today’s era. I have been blessed with a God-fearing, loving, hilarious, understanding, selfless, and supportive dad. He has loved me endlessly since the day I was born and has never stopped loving me as I grew up before his eyes. My dad is my superhero because I know I can rely on him; I know he is both spiritually and physically strong and I know that with God, my dad will never fall.

I was reminded of the passage in Romans 5:3-5, “We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.” As many other families have experienced trials, our family has too had our own share of tribulations… I believe God allows these trials to happen so we as children of God can grow spiritually, and develop our faith and walk with God.

Our God is not a mean or vicious God but He is a God of love and compassion (1 John 4:16). Through life’s trials and tribulations, we truly have the victory because God has given us His word to guide and help us and we have the privilege to come to him anytime and anywhere.

If you are not receiving weekly RenWeb progress reports in your email inbox please contact the High School office at 505-726-9632. Parent Teacher Conferences -High School Parent Teacher conferences will be taking place on Wednesday, March 23 and Thursday, March 24. Conferences will be held from 5:00 to 8:00PM. That Wednesday will be a normal day of school for all students but there will be no school on Thursday the 24th or Friday the 25th. Lunchtime Food -We have been noticing an increase in the amount of food being delivered for students to the high school office. I want to take a moment to re-familiarize parents with our policies regarding food delivered to school. Our Parent-Student Handbook states that students “are not allowed to have food delivered to school unless for a special occasion such as a birthday, and arrangements are made through the office and it is delivered before the beginning of the lunch period. Food brought in after the beginning of lunch will not be delivered to the student until the end of the school day. We have a concern for the healthy nutrition of our students and prefer that they have no fast food or energy drinks on campus.” Please do all you can to respect our policies and to make the proper arrangements on food being brought to school as it does impact the education taking place. IHS and Navajo Tribe Scholarships -For those to whom this applies, if you are eligible for the Indian Health Service Scholarship, the application is online and is due usually the end of February...sometimes they extend it to the end of March. The American Indian Summer Bridge Program (AISB) is a program at UNM for incoming Native freshmen designed to help prepare them for their first year at UNM. You can apply on line at aisb.unm.edu.
