Introduction & Context
• Aim: Connecting tech hubs and start-ups working from Africa, Europe and India on solutions for foodwaste-related problems
• Why foodwaste? 1/3 of food produced globally is lost before consumption. This challenge is linked to UN SDGs & AU Agenda 2063, potential to contribute to
sustainable agriculture, increased food security, reduced environmental impact of food production.
• Background: This challenge, launched in the AEIP network in January 2021, builds on and expands on the already existing foodwaste platform in the Europe-India Innovation Partnership (EIIP),
which includes 40+ Indian and European startups developing innovative solutions to foodwaste. Subtopics of the challenge: (1) smart farming, (2) food processing, (3) logistics
and packaging, (4) supply chain management and (5) waste management and recycling
• The AEIP team will continue to support the foodwaste challenge until September 2021. We will then provide an update on steps to ensure continuity & handover to
other initiatives.
