Welcome to week eight Term 1. National Bullying Awareness Day. Bullying National Day of Action against Greenwich Public School celebrated the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence (NDA) on Friday 16 March 2018. All students participated in discussions and activities based on bullying awareness. This included: defining bullying; what to do if you are being bullied; how bystanders can take positive action; and how a person who is bullying can change their behaviour. Continuing to build a positive, resilient and inclusive culture is an ongoing focus for Greenwich Public school. Further lessons on the subject will be taught regularly in class and discussed via our K-6 Buddy Group program in Term 2. We have invited the leading providers of anti-bullying programs ‘Make Bullying History’ for a parent’s information evening next month and to run a workshop with the students and parents on 28 May. The forums will be held during the day for students and in the evening for parents. Details will be advertised in coming newsletters. The cost for the student forums will be factored into term 2 fees. The parent forum will be collected through the office. I would like to thank Ms Harburg, Mrs Tamborini and the School Council for their support with this important issue. School Funds and P&C Funds. The schedule of Annual School fees were distributed yesterday and the Term 1 fees are attached today. I thank you in advance for your payment of the fees. The fees allow us to fund activities and items directly used by students. Easter Hat Parade. Every year K-1 have a wonderful celebration of Easter by having an Easter Hat Parade. Year 2 will join them this year as outlined in last week’s note. Today at school Years 1&2 have had a delightful time making Easter hats and our hall is full of feathers, paint and sparkles. I am looking forward to the parade next week. Principal’s Message Greenwich Public School

Good afternoon Parents, Carers and Friends of Greenwich Public School.

Welcome to week eight Term 1.

National Bullying Awareness Day.

Bullying National Day of Action against

Greenwich Public School celebrated the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence (NDA) on Friday 16 March 2018. All students participated in discussions and activities based on bullying awareness. I would like years 3-6 to also attend and wear a crazy hat or a cap of their own design. These hats or caps can be recycled using old hats or ones that are already owned by students. We ask that the hats/caps are decorated or organised at home and brought to school on the day. All students will begin the day on the Greenwich Road campus and walk to Kingslangley Road afterwards with teacher supervision. All students K-6 will participate in the parade and parents and grandparents are most welcome to attend. If you are a parent or grandparent of a K-2 student you might like to have a picnic lunch afterwards. Years 3-6 will return to the Kingslangley campus for normal lessons and times following the parade.

Notice of Staff Development Change of Date. Please don’t forget we have been fortunate to secure a days training at the Department’s Future Focus Learning Unit in Eveleigh on April 3. This day will in place of the Term 2 Staff Development Day. Students will not attend school on Tuesday April 3 but will resume school on Wednesday April 4. This extends the Easter break by 1 day for families.

I hope that everyone has a great week.

Vicki McKenzie.

‘TELL THEM FROM ME’ SURVEYS

Again this year, Greenwich Public School will participate in the ‘Tell Them From Me’ survey collection, in order to gain further insight from students, teachers and parents about school programs and initiatives. This term, the students in Years 4 to 6 will participate in the student survey. The student survey is a measure of student voice that provides school principals and school leaders with insight into student engagement, wellbeing and experience of effective teaching practices at their school. This information can be used to help build an accurate and timely picture to inform school planning. Please note that the survey is confidential and can be used either as a one-off survey or to identify trends within schools over time and better inform school priorities. Students in Years 4-6 will commence the survey from Wednesday 4 April. If you do not give consent for your child to participate in the student survey, please fill in the form attached and return it to the school office or classroom teacher. Forms must be returned by Wednesday April 4. More information regarding the parent survey will be communicated next term.

NAPLAN INFORMATION EVENING

On Wednesday 28 March, Vicki McKenzie and I will be hosting a NAPLAN information session for any

parents/carers of students who will be undertaking NAPLAN in 2018 for the first time. The intention for the

evening is to provide information about what NAPLAN is, when it is and what it looks like. It is also an opportunity

to ask any questions you may have. This information evening will begin at 6pm in 3/4KJ’s classroom at the bottom

of the hill on the oval.

Look forward to seeing you there.

A MESSAGE FROM MS SMITH

Hello Greenwich,

I have settled into my teacher exchange here at Cameron Elementary.

The last 2 months have been very cold. We have had lots of snow, which has

been very exciting.

Last week I had a visit from two Greenwich Public School students. Rhys and

Brooke Wittich, who are visiting Vancouver. Rhys and Brooke spent the morning

with my class. We read ‘Possum Magic’ By Mem Fox and Rhys gave the class a

wonderful speech all about Australia. Brooke helped the kinder students with

their jolly phonics sounds. It was lovely to see some familiar faces from home.

DRINKS BY THE HARBOUR – 2 JUNE 2018

Year 1 parents - Natalie Speer and Marena Von Behr are leading the charge for our Drinks by the Harbour event. They are working hard to make sure we all have a great night along with the support from the other committee members.

There is room for more volunteers so please email [email protected] if you can help in the lead up or on the night.

Don’t forget to mark the date in your diary!

It has been brought to our attention that there has been some confusion around our closed Facebook group. We run this to provide updates to current parents only as we do in this newsletter. The purpose is to allow for effective and positive two way communication between the GPS P&C and parents however it is not run by the school nor on the school’s behalf. The messages being put out are what we, as a volunteer group, think the parent community would like to know rather than the school asking us to post them. We do let the school know of any items that arise requiring clarification however these are in response to the conversations or questions asked. It is a useful tool to keep up to date and we would welcome more parents to join our Facebook Group. Please feel free to email us at [email protected] if you have any concerns with content posted. GENERAL MEETING – WEDNESDAY 4th APRIL

Our next General Meeting will be held on Wednesday 4th April at 7pm in the Kingslangely Rd Library. All parents are welcome to attend as either a guest or join as a general member. If you have an issue you would like to raise at our next meeting for discussion, please email Fiona Sawyer, Secretary at [email protected] to submit an agenda item by the 28th March.
