Please join us in prayer this week for :

From the Pastor:

Madeleine Delbrêl is a laywoman from France who died in 1964. She was a mys!c who spent much of her life caring for the poor and evangelizing culture. You will o"en find medita!ons from her in the monthly magazine, Magnificat and here's the one for this Sunday, reflec!ng on the Gos-pel:

“We have forgo"en that poverty of spirit, our fundamental condi#on before God, the very condi#on for inheri#ng the Kingdom, runs the grave risk of becoming a myth if it is not accompanied by a spirit of sharing whatever the par#cular ac#ons may be that this spirit demands of each of us. We have forgo"en that unless we have this spirit of sharing—a sharing of life, a sharing of goods—we cannot be witnesses to Christ who was sent first and foremost to the poor; and we cannot announce the Gospel, the Good News, of pov-erty of heart. This Good News is what the hearts of the poor are wai#ng for…. The human heart is made for human brotherhood. Christ said: ‘You are all brothers’ ; He le$ it for us to make these words come alive. He didn’t leave us an ideology or a system of brotherhood. We are s#ll the real brothers and the real sisters of everyone. We can’t do anything to change this fact. God has made us such. But we have lived like false brothers and sisters; brothers and sisters who have been untrue, brothers and sisters who have been wicked.”

Yet brotherly love is the real visible expression of the love of the invisible Father. It is the sign and witness of this love and cannot be separated from it.

With love and Prayers, Fr. Francis

Weekly Quote from St. Philip Neri

Cheerfulness strengthens the heart and makes us perse-

vere in a good life; wherefore the servant of God ought

always to be in good spirits.

Since so many people already pay bills and do their banking on-line, we are pleased to announce that our parishioners now have the convenience of an electronic op"on for making regular offerings!

Contribu"ons can be debited automa"cally from your checking or savings account or processed using your credit or debit card. (MC, Visa or Discover) at no cost to you. This new electronic giving program offers conven-ience for you and much needed dona!on consistency for our parish. You will no longer need to write out weekly checks or remember envelopes and, when vaca"on, illness or weather prevent you from a'ending Mass, your weekly offerings to con"nue on an uninterrupted basis!

Giving online is safe, secure and easy, allowing you to set up automa"c recurring contribu"ons and view your complete online giving history from anywhere you have access to the Internet. Paper authoriza!on forms are also now available at the back of church or in the Parish office. Special, holy day and holiday collec"ons are also included. If you already use envelopes, once you begin dona"ng on-line the record of your contribu"ons will be merged into a single account.

There is a bu$on on our webpage: www.olshtappan.com which will take you directly to on-line giving registra!on page or pick up an authoriza!on form in church.

Depending on whether you choose to donate via bank accounts or credit /debit card, please be prepared with either bank account info or debit/credit card numbers when you log on to the link. It’s a quick process and you always have the ability to change or end your giving this way. Once you register for on-line giving your paper envelopes will be cancelled.

PLEASE BE SURE TO COMPLETE YOUR PROFILE THE FIRST TIME YOU LOG IN!

We strongly urge our parishioners to take advantage of this opportunity!

Oct. 15, 2017 $ 7599 . Oct. 16, 2016 $ 7489.

Thank you for your con"nued generosity.

On-line giving is quick and easy .

Please consider it!!!!

OLSH Weekly Collection:

As the holidays approach…

Remembering those we love….

During this coming holiday season, consider a Memorial Dona"on of Altar Bread and Wine, or a Memori-al Dona"on for Altar Flowers for a week. Flowers will be placed on the altar in the main Church for the weekend and then moved to the Chapel for weekday Masses. The name of your loved one along with the name of the person making the request will be printed in the Bulle"n and they will be remembered in a special way by the Priests as they celebrate Mass. We will also con"nue to take requests for the Tabernacle Candle Memorials. Please call the Parish Office (359-1230) for more informa"on

ATTENTION PARISHIONERS WITH WEEKLY

ENVELOPES

Currently OLSH mails weekly envelopes to over 1100 parish-ioners at an annual cost of over $4500. Of these, less than 275 are ac"ve users. To be financially responsible, we are in the pro-cess of removing the names of those who have not used enve-lopes in the last 2 years. Regular users will con"nue to receive them.

However, because of the many benefits to the parish, we strongly urge our parishioners to consider safe and conven-ient ON-LINE giving. Thank you!

Thir eth Sunday in Ordinary Time Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church October 29, 2017

Today’s gospel “bottom-lines” it for us. Jesus tells us that there are 2 main, important things we need to know about what He preached and the law of God.

“Bottom-line” we are to love God more than anything else and love our neighbor as we love ourselves.

Simple, right? Yes and no! It is easy to understand the first part, loving God more than anything else but it is not always so easy to do. For example, it can sometimes be hard to love God more than anything else on Sunday mornings when we would love to stay in bed or at home watching cartoons. Can you think of other times when it is hard to love God more than anything else?

Jesus is kind of tricky with the second part. We are to love our neighbor as ourselves. Seems simple but there are actually 3 things we need to be able to do. Before we can love someone else the way we love our self we must first love our self. What are some of they ways we love ourselves and is this always easy? Is it by doing everything that will make us happy? What about when we eat too much candy, which will make us happy but will also make our tummies sick and our bodies unhealthy? Next, in order to love our neighbor as ourselves we must figure out who our neighbor is. Who is Jesus talking about when He says, “Love your neighbor?” Is it only the people who live next door to us? Our family? Our friends? Finally, we have to figure out how to love them. Can you think of some example of how you love your neighbor as your self? It can be very difficult sometimes but Jesus is always there to help us because He loves EVERYONE, including us.

If we ask Him, He will help us learn how to love everyone as we love ourselves
